    My wife would ABSOLUTELY LOVE this Christmas decoration. She would also love it even more for the fact that I made it for her myself. I'm adding this to my Save For Later videos!

    I use Duck EasyLiner Adhesive Surfaces, 12 in x 36 ft, Clear and contact cement to adhere patters to wood for scrolling. No mess no smell and the liner and pattern peel right off with no residue . Put liner on wood and cut off excess. Cut off excess paper of the pattern leaving about 1/4 inch from the outline. Put pattern on the wood and using a sharpie trace outline. Remove pattern and apply contact cement. up to the marked border. Apply pattern and smooth it out. Use some sort of semi hard roller (rubber roller ) to make sure you have no lumps and the glue is spread evenly. Cut pattern and just peel off the liner.

    "♪♪♪♪ I wa-na Hy-po-tenuse for Chri-ist-mas ♪♪♪♪" or something like that. Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed seeing many of the tools featured in past videos put to use. I caught the flush trim router, drill press table, clamping jig, "L" patter cutting table saw fence, and maybe I missed some other?
    BTW - the all zoom effects were really neat and fit right in. I particularly liked the zoom-autofocus shot on the combination square protractor.

    I've seen you use that clamping jig/surface before, I was wondering if you had plans for it? I don't recall seeing that one in your workshop jigs book (but admittingly, I only glanced through when it arrived, I haven't had time to read it yet). Also, is there a good reason to not take the workpiece straight from the glue up to the planer (skipping the glue scraping step)?

    • @WorkshopCompanion
      @WorkshopCompanion  2 года назад +4

      First, we do sell plans for the assembly table. The video is at ruclips.net/video/1ujUF5skCzI/видео.html and you can find the plans at workshopcompanion.selz.com/item/assembly-tables . Second, there are three things to consider before you plane a glued-up board. (1) Is the glue completely cured? It can be dangerous to plane an assembly in which the glue hasn't reached full strength. If you're working with aliphatic resin (yellow) glue, my rule of thumb is to let the glue cure overnight -- 10 to 12 hours minimum. This, of course will make the squeeze out very hard, which brings us to the next consideration. (2) Does the hardened squeeze-out prevent the assembly from sitting flat on the planer table? If so, you obviously need to scrape it off. And (3), do you need to scrape both sides? Can't you just plane one side smooth? You'd think you could, but the planer knife contacts a hardened glue bead at a different angle than it contacts the wood simply because the bead is raised. At this angle, the knife edge is more prone to chipping. Usually, you can get by with this, especially if you slow down the feed rate, but I've put some nasty dings in my knives just because I was in too much of a hurry to scrape. I consider it good shop practice to scrape both sides.

    What book is your palm router surfacer in?

    • @WorkshopCompanion
      @WorkshopCompanion  Год назад

      I cover the "flush-trim" router jig in two books -- Routing and Shaping (page 51) and Making Built-In Cabinets (page 68). ( workshopcompanionstore.com/products/making-built-in-cabinets and workshopcompanionstore.com/products/routing-and-shaping ) If you want an actual engineering drawing that shows how to make the jig, get Making Built-In Cabinets. But before you spend your money consider that there are so many variables that depend on what router you have, a drawing conveys less information than what I cover in the video. I certainly appreciate the support -- book and plans sales is what funds these videos -- but I don't want to sell you something you don't need.

    6‘05" what holds the four layers of trees together?

    • @WorkshopCompanion
      @WorkshopCompanion  2 года назад

      Friction. They are collapsible so they can be easily set up, taken down, stored -- unless you are one those Christmas zealots who leave their Christmas trees up until July. And that's cool too -- the friction will still be there in the summer.
