    I've been working on quartal chords and this video is just what I needed. Basing them on scale tones outside of just the pentatonic (dominant 9, minor, diminished), building down from the tone (instead of just up) and (my favorite) building one in the left hand, one chord tone below are all new concepts I wouldn't have known otherwise. Thank you for this lesson!

      Wow thanks for the feedback! Quartal chords are cool and it’s something I’m going to be studying even more in 2022! ✊🏾

    I think you should have explain what quartal chord is.
    That should be the first step in understanding the concept

    • @DeyquanBowens
      @DeyquanBowens  3 года назад +1

      It’s explained at 1:47. Every concept doesn’t need an entire video to explain. I have other videos on this topic recently.
      Sometimes you have to watch a video a few times to truly understand it completely.

      A little research wouldn’t hurt either!

      Agreed. I had a lot of questions as to the notes used in the chords. I slowed it down to try and break the chords down. I see a bunch of notes that don't seem to be in the scale. Is it a modal thing?

    Good video. Two artists come to mind for me when thinking of quartal harmony: Bill Evans and Jacob Collier.

      This video shows a very basic use of Pentatonic Quartal Harmony. There many ways to use this concept with inversions and rootless voicing on every chord type in Diatonic Harmony. Pianists like McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea are masters in it's usage.
