Pine St. 2nd Alarm (Waterbury, CT) 4/5/20
WATERBURY, CT - At approximately 2pm on April 5, 2020, the Waterbury Fire Department was dispatched to 65 Pine Street for a reported house fire. First companies on scene found heavy fire showing from the 1st and 2nd floors of a 2 1/2 story wood frame dwelling. A primary search came up negative in the multi-family home but it was reported that 10 people had made it to safety before FD arrival. Unfortunately, 2 cats and 2 dogs did not make it out of the fire. The fire would reach a 2nd alarm before being put under control. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries at the scene.

Many of the houses on that end of Pine and the surrounding area were nice places when built 100+ years ago. For the most part they were single family houses for affluent people. As I understand it, they began to deteriorate as Waterbury's industrial economy declined in the 1950's, a process that really sped up in the last couple decades, though here and there you'll still find a well-tended house that unlike most hasn't been cut up into apartments.

Balloon construction dooms many of these older houses. They didn’t have the building standards they have now. However working on a moss covered roof tells me this was an unmaintained house? Such a shame for a beautifully built home with details not seen in modern homes.

I was waiting for this video since news of the job broke, and as usual I wasn’t disappointed. Great content.
