Wait, did I miss the part where you attached the outlet to a switch? That's what I came here for. This was the most basic of wiring. Not what I need!!!
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer you, more than most, probably are aware that wiring to a switch is much more complicated. The point I’m making is that your video is mislabeled. You in fact are not wiring an outlet to a switch as is written on the video description.
@@loualcaraz6497 the same way the box is wired, you wire the switch. You need a power feed into the switch, black to copper screw head and white to silver screw head. Ground to green. (This is the switch) then take your lead from the switch and run it to the outlet box. By having the power coming to the switch first it controls the power to your outlet. Hope this helps 👍
Not anymore as now the receptacle has become controlled by the switch. You can wire the outlets independently so one is on the switch and the other is hardwired to a separate circuit. Similar to a home with a room that runs an outlet on a switch to control a floor lamp.
@richman117 the switch is already in place, I'm using the power from the switch to run this new light. A switch video wasn't the point of this one, it's to wire a new light to an existing switch. Sorry for confusion
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer so I would run a white wire to the plug off tied off whites and a black wire to the plug from black wire on switch. And run a ground to both?
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer wth you talking about lol the pull chain on the light? The switch should be on the wall and allow you to turn the outlet off or on
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer dude you named the video “how to wire an outlet to a switch” yet you never even show a switch or wiring one lol there are several people telling you this. You wired a light straight just fine but not what the content of your video doesn’t match your title at all
This was really straight forward and the visuals were clear - loved it! Thanks Chris!
Thanks Rachael! 🙌

If its so basic, why do you nees to know how to wire to the switch? That should be easy for you, if this is basic lol

@ Lou Totally agree
All good!
well the receptical still work with the light off?

Can I do that for power a refrigerator?
Wouldn't you prefer to have your fridge on constant power?
where is the switch parT?

Can you wire a receptacle off a single phase light switch?
You can, you would have to pig tail a wire to the switch unless the outlet is to be controlled by the switch.

What happened to the switch?
It's there 😉

@richman117 it does, lol just an existing switch that was already in place. Perhaps I'll make another for wiring a switch since that's a popular one 😄
