- Jesuit education began when St. Ignatius started the Roman College about 500 years ago. Now called the Pontifical Gregorian University, it continues to educate future church leaders - priests, religious and lay people. The Gregorian, along with the related institutions of the Pontifical Biblical Institute and Pontifical Oriental Institute, provides a world-class education to top students around the world. In the US, dioceses send their top students to these schools.
