Means its in training mode, you need to go into the DED laser settings (under misc) and set it to CMBT (combat). When I made this video that wasn't a required step, but now is.
PSA for anyone watching this for 4.33. The TGP now defaults to training mode, you have to change it to combat mode in the ICP to actually get the laser to fire on targets. Learned this the hard way.
question: how do you do this? I recently got excited about making my first bomb run and when the time came I couldn't even figure out how to turn on the tgp :/ it wasnt on standby like it was in this video, it was just off. is that because its in training mode?

Very good video. Like the other Falcon BMS Tutorials. You explain everything very accurate. One suggestion for other pilots. If you switch to TGP MFD and activate Area Mode, use the following keys: Keys in Falcon BMS DMS: Display Management Switch DMS down = Shift + Num 2 = switch MFDs TMS Up = Ctrl + Up = activate Area Mode Strg F3 / F4 = zoom

the white dot is simple. its a bird's eye to where the TGP is looking (your plane being the center of the screen). example of this look at 17:20. the white dot is at between 12 and 1oclock off the center of the screen, and then you look at the HUD and the TD is right there also.
i worked it out, it was pretty much explained in the vid, the reason its moving around so fast is because you are targeting with the radar, not the pod. So you need to make the TGP the sensor of intrest, or SOI. so if the TGP display says, NOT SOI then press DMS down (or up, i cant remember off the top of my head) and it will change it to the TGP. (white box around display) then it will move around perfectly and enable you to zoom in and out! very satisfying! it will work in CCRP or CCIP.
Damn, you really explain things well. I'm just looking at getting into BMS. Quite daunting but it's tutorials like this that will make it possible + forum.
@CaptainPaul12 Yes, it's because you are suddenly shifting 1000 lbs off your wing and the aircraft has to be corrected for that - sounds like you were using gb24s. If its spinning left, you need to trim the right wing down. And vice versa. The trim panel is on the far left side of the cockpit. Can also use the keyboard shortcut alt + arrow keys where the arrow key is the direction of the trim. If spinning left, hold down alt-right arrow until it stops spinning.
From what I can see watching these videos (not just this one), working with the TGP etc is surprisingly different from in the A-10C (DCS). For example in the A-10 i rarely even use the AGM-65 to find targets just because the image is so poor. Most of the time I will point at targets using the TGP and then slew my Mav to w/e the TGP is looking at. Also, is there no point mode for the TGP? Keep in mind that I'm just getting started with Falcon BMS. Edit: Just realised you already pretty much answered my question earlier in the comment section, not being able to set spi.
Click mark on the ICP until it says TGP, then press tms up. You will now have a markpoint (steer 26 is the first) of that position. Then make the HSD SOI, select steer 26, and press right ctrl-p and it'll transmit that steer to your entire flight.

I'd like you to do a guns combat tutorial( not ACM) just go through the various gun sights. I'd like you to do a ripple tutorial, or an overall WPN/ SMS tutorial. I'd also like to see you break down ramp starts for the ancillary aircraft, like the harrier and the eagle. You could also tackle a big ask, which is the little known "secret" HOTAS callbacks you know, like double tapping tms down for slave tgp, holding tms up for the head mounted bore sight, etc etc etc...I know you probably know some more lesser known controls. I'd also just like to see you make more vids of fragging. You're an awesome dude, with a keen and unique insight. I enjoy your book reviews and your readings of the classics as well. Hey Krause watched these videos years ago and tried falcon but back then I did t know tacan from ils etc what radar modes did what the bms sim was overall drinking from the fire hose. Iv always perfered dcs but they really drag their heels with the apg 73 in the hornets air to ground modes. You excited tho for dcs f16? I Personally can’t wait iv slowly learned most of the more Modern dcs study sims so this makes me excited.
The GBU12 is not 1000 class bomb, its 500 lb. And also one point to throw in there, not all GBUs are laser guided, The GBU-30, GBU-31, and GBU-32 are all GPS/INS guided. You probably already know this, but im just making it clear to the people watching. Great video and keep up the tutorials!
Hey Tanit, I appreciate your videos. One tiny thing that you might want to correct is that you mention that 'GBUs' are all laser guided. Maybe you meant 'LGB'? The GBU38 and 31 for example are GPS guided and have slightly different employment methods (as i'm sure you know). Thanks again.
Yes, if you wanted to you could make a steerpoint by manually putting the lat/long in using the ICP, but i'm not sure why you would do that if you can just use a markpoint, which is why I said that in the video.
Aight, thanks mate. This is the way you transmit a marker point right. So once you've transmitted the mkpt, the fastest way of them getting their TGP in the area will be to lock on to the point with the FCR, using the HSD as reference, and then slew the TGP onto the mkpt right? But my question is; is it possible to enter the coordinates manually onto the ICP (if beeing read out by anyone), and slew the TGP directly on to them?
I can VID an f-16 at 30 nm's out with the tgp: with tgp soi fast tap tms left twice (under 0.5 secs) and you change to the tv senor of the tgp. In tv mode the magnification is much higher. Then zoom in your tgp up to x4 AND then zoom in your view towards your tgp mfd. You will be able to see him and id him, he will be small thats why you have to zoom your view but you can see him nontheless. Very important if you want to take advantage of the long range of your amraams. Always declare with awacs and raygun though! happy hunting!
+lupahole Yea its what you need to verify if a contact is hostile and you dont have AWACS on station. Though from my experience so far in the campaign, even when the briefing doesnt state that theres' AWACS available, there usually is. I think if theres' no AWACS in the air but theres' JSTARS then they act as AWACS. Even though they're supposed to be just for finding ground targets.
Hi! When you went over the feature where you displayed the coordinates (in A-G mode) on the TGP, you also mentioned that you could provide your wingman with these, whereas he could plot them into his ICP in order to slew he's TGP onto the area or target. Is this feature inplemented in BMS, or did you just mention this because it's actually a real life feature? I know it's supposed to work in real life, so I would be impressed if it actually works in BMS.
You should pre-configure all your MFD modes BEFORE you get on the plane. (On the flight-plan screen, with the map, the cartridge symbol is on the right down side.) Use the cartridge function to save your configures, so you can transport them to the cockpit. Otherwise, you have to configure your modes in flight.
The first couple of OCA missions i did everything went smooth. But now when i set up the TGP on the mfd i get a T instead of the L for the laser and now my bombs are missing the targets by a mile. I havent done anything different in setting up the TGP. Ive watched this video a thousand times and im still getting the T instead of the L on the mfd. Any ideas why this is happening? Cheers Kirbs

Hi, Can you explain how to use GBU-15? I managed to fire it same way as i launch a Maverick - power it up, wait for it to power up , remove cover with "u" lock and fire. However, I lost visual image as soon as it was launched. Do you think it is possible to keep visual link after launch? On the reference for this bomb it says link should be kept but is it possible in BMS? Another related question it hot do i slave it to TGP? Thanks
Realy nice presentation. Especialy that at bottom U added time when in video U're explaining what (some of us are interesting just i some bits not all, and rather look U're video than reading fuc.... big manuals. Nice......like always ;) However keyboard keys aren't always same, so think U should also warn on option for loading predefined keyboard and buttons in setup and wich of them are U using? BMS or other or maybe post link just for file for keyboard layout.

love your tutorials. I got a problem with the GBUs. I got it all setup, just as you told: Master arm, laser arm, TGP (on weapon page), STBY, A-G, DMS down, TGP locked on the target. Then I fly into the fold in CCRP mode, holding down the pickle button from the moment I see the range indexer moving down until the moment the second weapons release indicator comes down all the way. But the bombs are just not releasing, instead, the second release indexer is moving up again. You got any idea what I could be missing here?
Krause yes this only seems to happen in the solo campaign, when I go to the range (tactical engagement) it works just fine. This drove me crazy so I'm glad you told me. Btw tried to quickly release and press the pickle again when I saw the bar going up again, and that releases the weapons immediately but they just drop like stones EDIT: as a matter of fact, this is reproducable in that specific mission I encountered, so the only way to finish it is using other weapons

I've juggled all the graphics options without success and am on the verge of uninstalling it. I know it's a 2005 sim so maybe it won't run on modern hardware? Any suggestions/advice/death threats etc?

+Mike Rushforth I tried, but the keybindings for some reason are incorrect. shift + arrow keys do not do anything, and they are not mapped to anything. I've turned the TGP on, to AG, made it soi, set it to area mode, but can't slew.
Is there a way to have the plane automatically trim ?. As soon as you release the weapon the plane goes into a severe roll. I know how to manually trim the plane out ,but it's very tedious to have to mess with that all awhile maintaining situational awareness and destroy more than one target.

In this case, "masked" means that your aircraft is between the pod and the target. The only real way to change that, is to move the aircraft. Turning is usually the only thing that'll help.
can i use the TGP for any CCRP bombing or it is only for LGB's and maveriks. another thing: can u make a video about TFR? i read the manual but i didnt understand a thing thanks
+Dawid Bola You can click the A-G button in the cockpit. Its right below the HUD and next to the A-A button. I assume there is also a hotkey, but I don't know what it is.
what is the maximum ceiling from which a lgb can be dropped in Falcon 4.0? I see that nearly all the videos show f 16 flying at 20.000 feet, but I think that fying higher should be safer against the menace of SAMs

(BMS 4.33) Wonder if you could help me with a really frustrating problem that i have been unable to resolve despite frenzied googling and searching. I cannot fire my guns! I know it's supposed to be first trigger detent, but for the life of me after mapping it to the button on my Saitek Avaitor it just refuses to work! Driving me crazy! +AnneMarie van der Westhuizen in BMS 4.33 you have to be in dogfight mode or guns mode in air to air to shoot. in 4.32 you could pull at any time and shoot. is it that?
If the TGP is loaded in the load-out screen while the flight is airborne it will not be placed on your aircraft. Also does it just say blank or does it say STBY in the top left comer if it says STBY click the corresponding MFD button and put it into A-G mode
N37BU6 Laser is in training mode. ICP: Select list, then 0, then 5. scroll down to where it says TRNG and tap any number on the ICP. It will switch to CMBT after a moment then you are good
@victoraochoa It's because different users use different base input layouts or whatever I should call them. There are two by default with BSM I think, so you just have to find whatever button it is for you in the settings.
I am encountering a problem...When i try to use this mod (or any time i am at a-g mode) i have NO RAD in my optics and not matter if i have sensor of interest in the mfd i cannot move the cursors in order to lock...

I'm having the worst time with this! The bombs only drop for me about 50% of the time. To recap, you start pickling after the flashing circle cue, continue to fly level over your target, and the bombs drop when the second cue hits the meatball, correct? My problem is that the second cue never actually gets to my meatball. It approaches it, then stops 1 pixel away, and starts floating up and away from the meatball as I pass overhead of the target harmlessly. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Wish ppl would mention the HOTAS commands too instead of just saying keyboard commands. Their has to be a way of zooming the TGP, lazing a target, and cycling the magnification levels with the HOTAS. Like either DMS up and down for zooming the TGP when it's SOI and cycling the magnification level via the pinky switch for instance. I understand control mapping is different for each user....but most essential controls stay the same such as the ones I just mentioned. When I have BMS fully figured out I might tryin make these vids since nobody else has. Honestly knowing the HOTAS commands for individual sensors is what's kept me from BMS for so long. The HOTAS setup for the F-16 has to be as ergonomic as the A-10c is DCS. But nobody touches on the HOTAS commands.

after some minutes the display on the right of the HUD disappear, so i can't go on the list page or see my radio menu and all the other funcions of that display. someone could help me?
It's a separate controller, TrackIr5 i guess. Basicly a IR camera mounted on top of your screen, watching reflectors on a cap, or headset, so you can just move your head around, and it will simulate screen like you actually are in the cockpit. And you get your hands free to do everything else.

Zvonimir Sarcevic He probably use a Warthog Hotas, and use a small ministick on the throttle to control it, but I think you can select keyboard in config, and use keys you have free, or make them free if you never use them. You probably need to save the new config to make the game remember them, but joystick input don't seem to save, so just don't enter the joystick config after you have them ok. Or they reset.
but you'll be much slower. usually 20K-25K is operation altitude for this kind of attack. even old SA systems like SA2 will be able to engage you at 30K so there is no much point of flying higher. The basic rule is not to fly in known SAM operation area, use jamming equipment which does help and fly to the target area after SEAD flights have been tasked there. that said, you can never be fully certain that there isn't any luncher so the RWR can help you out as well
No he said you just did not hear. you DMS down to switch point of interest to the TGP on right MFD then TMS up if you want to un slave it to the radar. Then you can move TGP without messing with your radar. Then if you want it to return to being slaved to left MFD, or radar, hit TSM down

what is the point of using TGP in AA mode? Is it actually useful in attacking an aircraft or is it just to see the aircraft?

Especialy that at bottom U added time when in video U're explaining what (some of us are interesting just i some bits not all, and rather look U're video than reading fuc.... big manuals. Nice......like always ;) However keyboard keys aren't always same, so think U should also warn on option for loading predefined keyboard and buttons in setup and wich of them are U using? BMS or other or maybe post link just for file for keyboard layout.

love your tutorials. I got a problem with the GBUs. I got it all setup, just as you told: Master arm, laser arm, TGP (on weapon page), STBY, A-G, DMS down, TGP locked on the target. Then I fly into the fold in CCRP mode, holding down the pickle button from the moment I see the range indexer moving down until the moment the second weapons release indicator comes down all the way. But the bombs are just not releasing, instead, the second release indexer is moving up again. You got any idea what I could be missing here?
This is a bug that sometimes happen. Just tap the pickle button when it touches down and should have released. The bomb should come off immediately.
Krause yes this only seems to happen in the solo campaign, when I go to the range (tactical engagement) it works just fine. This drove me crazy so I'm glad you told me. Btw tried to quickly release and press the pickle again when I saw the bar going up again, and that releases the weapons immediately but they just drop like stones
EDIT: as a matter of fact, this is reproducable in that specific mission I encountered, so the only way to finish it is using other weapons
SaegioBendix do you have laser arm on? Is the L flashing on your tgp by 8 seconds to impact?

+SaegioBendix -Hi, I bought the standard Falcon 4 (boxed version 1.01) a few days ago but there are severe graphics problems with it on my high-end Win 7 PC. I've juggled all the graphics options without success and am on the verge of uninstalling it. I know it's a 2005 sim so maybe it won't run on modern hardware?

how did you slew the TGP once it is selected as SOI? not sure what the default keys are for that.

Is there a way to have the plane automatically trim ?. As soon as you release the weapon the plane goes into a severe roll. I know how to manually trim the plane out ,but it's very tedious to have to mess with that all awhile maintaining situational awareness and destroy more than one target.
Hi Krause,do you have any tutorial of how buddy lasing works,we flew in direction of targets ,my wing locked the target and strat to lase it ,i went to LST mode with my TGP with Laser activated ,TGP went to search mode but nothing happends and yes we had same laser code?!what are we missing?!thx in advance,grettings from Croatia!
In this case, "masked" means that your aircraft is between the pod and the target. The only real way to change that, is to move the aircraft. Turning is usually the only thing that'll help.

Cant use tgp with mavericks because you can't set a sensor point of interest (spi) in bms. It's for carp bombing only.

You can click the A-G button in the cockpit. Its right below the HUD and next to the A-A button. I assume there is also a hotkey, but I don't know what it is.

what is the maximum ceiling from which a lgb can be dropped in Falcon 4.0? I see that nearly all the videos show f 16 flying at 20.000 feet, but I think that fying higher should be safer against the menace of SAMs

How do you "aim" or manipulate the TGP? I finally got the SOI done, but now I can't move the laser (crosshair) around in the MFD.
LGB is a uk/european acronim, GBU is a US acronim, same thing really, Laser Guided Bomb or Guided Bomb Unit.

Hi! I just got BMS4.32, and I"m working on my campaing but, I can't zoom in or out with CTRL or SHIFT F3 and F4, I tried different combinations but nothing, I just have the naro and wide zoom options. Can you please specify the commands for me? Thanks!

(BMS 4.33) Wonder if you could help me with a really frustrating problem that i have been unable to resolve despite frenzied googling and searching. I cannot fire my guns! I know it's supposed to be first trigger detent, but for the life of me after mapping it to the button on my Saitek Avaitor it just refuses to work! Driving me crazy! If the TGP is loaded in the load-out screen while the flight is airborne it will not be placed on your aircraft. Also does it just say blank or does it say STBY in the top left comer if it says STBY click the corresponding MFD button and put it into A-G mode
Is the rdr slaved to the t-pod when it is the SOI ?
Why would I have a flashing "T" instead of "L"? Bombs are hitting ahead or behind target.

N37BU6 Laser is in training mode. ICP: Select list, then 0, then 5. scroll down to where it says TRNG and tap any number on the ICP. It will switch to CMBT after a moment then you are good
DMS down to switch it to SOI then TMS up to go into area mode.
@victoraochoa It's because different users use different base input layouts or whatever I should call them. There are two by default with BSM I think, so you just have to find whatever button it is for you in the settings.

JDAM is a kit installed on conventional bombs, not a type of bomb. The mk82 with a JDAM kit is a gbu-38.
I am encountering a problem...When i try to use this mod (or any time i am at a-g mode) i have NO RAD in my optics and not matter if i have sensor of interest in the mfd i cannot move the cursors in order to lock...

No setting SPI? No changing bomb mode to CCRP and setting its lase time in DSMS panel? Sounds good to me.

Krause DId they change it from 4.33? I just started playing the game yesterday, and coming from DCS: A-10C it seemed a little easier.
There is no concept of SPI in 4.32 - there is in 4.33 but in the f-16 the SPI is not as prominent a concept as in the a-10c.

I sarted bms a few days ago, could someone explain what is spi ? lase time ? and I heard about setting something in the icp in 4.33 that wasn't there in 4.32, is that spi ?
I'm having the worst time with this! The bombs only drop for me about 50% of the time. To recap, you start pickling after the flashing circle cue, continue to fly level over your target, and the bombs drop when the second cue hits the meatball, correct?
My problem is that the second cue never actually gets to my meatball. It approaches it, then stops 1 pixel away, and starts floating up and away from the meatball as I pass overhead of the target harmlessly.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Can this method be used with JDAM's as well?
Also, GBU-12's are 500lb bombs

Wish ppl would mention the HOTAS commands too instead of just saying keyboard commands. Their has to be a way of zooming the TGP, lazing a target, and cycling the magnification levels with the HOTAS. Like either DMS up and down for zooming the TGP when it's SOI and cycling the magnification level via the pinky switch for instance.
I understand control mapping is different for each user....but most essential controls stay the same such as the ones I just mentioned.
When I have BMS fully figured out I might tryin make these vids since nobody else has. Honestly knowing the HOTAS commands for individual sensors is what's kept me from BMS for so long. The HOTAS setup for the F-16 has to be as ergonomic as the A-10c is DCS. But nobody touches on the HOTAS commands.
Btw I'm not sure if DMS up and down zoom the TGP or if the pinky switch on the stick toggles magnification levels. That's only a example.
Seriously, hotas commands are universal, keyboard bindings aren't, especially in bms.

It's a separate controller, TrackIr5 i guess. Basicly a IR camera mounted on top of your screen, watching reflectors on a cap, or headset, so you can just move your head around, and it will simulate screen like you actually are in the cockpit. And you get your hands free to do everything else.

Trick is that default keybind is wrong, and before starting, it shoud load different keybind (game has 2 or 3 options) ...
Zvonimir Sarcevic He probably use a Warthog Hotas, and use a small ministick on the throttle to control it, but I think you can select keyboard in config, and use keys you have free, or make them free if you never use them. You probably need to save the new config to make the game remember them, but joystick input don't seem to save, so just don't enter the joystick config after you have them ok. Or they reset.

but you'll be much slower. usually 20K-25K is operation altitude for this kind of attack. even old SA systems like SA2 will be able to engage you at 30K so there is no much point of flying higher. The basic rule is not to fly in known SAM operation area, use jamming equipment which does help and fly to the target area after SEAD flights have been tasked there.
that said, you can never be fully certain that there isn't any luncher so the RWR can help you out as well

No he said you just did not hear. you DMS down to switch point of interest to the TGP on right MFD then TMS up if you want to un slave it to the radar. Then you can move TGP without messing with your radar. Then if you want it to return to being slaved to left MFD, or radar, hit TSM down

@CaptainPaul12 In the video this doesn't happen because I was using gb-12s, the 500 lb variant. I originally did the video using gb24s but it took like a minute to trim my aircraft so decided against it in the final video.
How do you control tgp? mine's always slaved to radar cursor
