As a psychologist specializing in eating disorders and working closely with parents, I appreciate the challenges that these parents have encountered, and their willingness to listen to the professionals. It can be so difficult for parents to navigate! And they're right ED treatment is so difficult to navigate. Connecting with support groups or online communities comprised of those who have gone through similar experiences can be super helpful! Sharing your concerns, challenges, and triumphs with others who can relate can provide a sense of solidarity and valuable advice.

I have been fighting for 8 years to get my son diagnosed for his eating disorder. Finally they diagnosed ARFID and 6 months down the line still no therapy. He is now 16 & I am terrified where this is going to end for him. I'm also just totally worn out. He has asked for help he is frustrated. This story is uplifting to hear. I wish the UK had better understanding & support for eating disorders. It seems you only get help if you are literally on the brink of death.

I'm 45 and my grandma bullied me for over thirty years about my weight. Shocker, I have ARFID because of that. Parents, please, PLEASE don't let this happen to your child. Stand up for them, because it's hard to stand up for yourself when you're a kid.

@@Megan-mz4swThing is with arfid people are limited to a few foods, most of these foods tend to be things high in carbs and other bad things like bread. Since people with arfid can only eat certain things if none of the things they can eat are healthy it can certainly cause them to gain weight.

@@Megan-mz4sw Yeah, I’m also 14 and have had arfid for my whole life so I know too. I also never mentioned arfid being caused by bullying? I understand that arfid by itself doesn’t have anything to do with gaining weight but the fact of the matter is if you are limited to a few foods that are most likely quite unhealthy you will probably gain weight.

Same, I’m soon 20 and I was diagnosed some months ago, and they gave me a treatment plan that I never committed to.
I’ve been like this since I was a baby and it’s not easy, I do sometimes wish that I could go to any restaurant and have many options to choose between but I usually have one option or maybe none. It’s difficult. I wish you luck.

I have ARFID because of my IBS symptoms and sensory processing disorder. I'm afraid of eating meat products or dairy products because of my IBS symptoms. I have also eliminated entire restaurants that don't serve anything i will eat. One of my friends suggested going to a sandwich and soup restaurant and i couldn't find a single thing i would eat because it was all sandwiches (which i don't eat because they come with too many things stacked on top and condiments), and soups that were all cream (which i can't tolerate the texture of). She got mad at me for not accepting her suggestion at first and complained that i was too picky of an eater. Another issue i have is that I once had a job that would provide catered lunches and i refused to eat half the catered lunches and would go buy something for lunch, and i would be late coming back because i would have to go out and buy lunch because there was nowhere that i could store my own food. Most of the time, my workplace would serve these big burritos that i was too scared to consume because of my IBS symptoms and the beans were too mushy. At my own job, I could almost never eat the food that i had to personally order for a large group of people. I skipped lunch all my workdays when i didn't feel like i could eat any of the catered meals. I'm in my late 20s and this is how ARFID impacts me
