    Fantastic overview of this new feature Roger. Very clear and easy to understand. Looks like a really nice addition. Was doing some landscape stuff earlier today and that would have been helpful. Well done 👍

      Thanks Richard. Its very easy to use, and as you say, its a nice addition. Not really of much use for bird photographers, but for landscapes, its great.

    Hi Roger. The gnd filter looks really useful, and is the only reason I would consider the upgrade to the OM 1 Mk 2 from my OM 1. I have not had the OM 1 long, so will have to keep using the bracketing feature for now to balance out my exposures. It is nice to see what results you can get for the new gnd filter, thank you for sharing 👍

      Thanks for the kind comment Clive. There are times when the grad filter can be very useful, and I always try to get a correctly exposed image in one shot. having said that, its not always possible, and in those instances, bracketing is the better option.

      I'm in the same situation - I don't think I can justify upgrading from the OM-1, but the live GND sure looks nifty.

      @@vermis8344 Unless your going to use it a lot, there is probably not a lot of point in upgrading. I still use my older OM1 a lot.

    Hi Roger. Another very interesting and informative video. Certainly looks a nice area and you definitely managed to get some really nice stills. I look forward to your next video as I’ve been curious about the Kase filters for a while.

      Hi David, Thanks for the kind comment. I have found the Kase filters to be excellent. They are quick to use, and do not take up anywhere near the space in my bag that the Lee 100mm filter system did.

  • @trevorburton4429
    @trevorburton4429 4 месяца назад

    I have been considering my options to replace my resin filters that have become pockmarked. This in camera gnd system is comprehensive and versatile and dispenses with the large systems making it possible to use the magnetic options. Thank you Roger. I just need to save for the OM2 now!

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  4 месяца назад

      The Lee filter system is good but the 100mm system is quite bulky and I find it a bit slow to use. The circular magnetic filters are a lot smaller and quicker to use.

    You didn't mention that once you are in GND, the front dial changes the angle at 15 degree increments, the rear dial rotates the angle in 1 degree increments. So, that also means you need a way to alter the exposure using those dials without going in and turning off GND, changing exposure and turning it back on. Pressing the info button allows you to use those dials to change aperture/shutter speed values while still in GND mode. The line for the GND is turned off, but the GND effect is still there and visible. You can press the info button repeatedly to see different info settings, and then back to the ability to change the position / angle of the GND.

    Thank you for the video, Roger. I have upgraded but only got one body and I have only tried the gdn filter once so far. Having a partly busted shoulder it made sense to upgrade and not have to consider hefting a lot of filters around. Also, it’s working a treat with the new 150-600mm lens.

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for commenting. Using the GradND is not the answer for every shot, but in some instances, it does work well. I only have the one mkII camera body, so its my `go too` camera for landscape /seascapes. the weight of Lee filter system was not the issue for me. It was the amount of space they took up and they were slower to use.

    I enjoyed the video, a shame the weather wasn't kinder to you! I found having it assigned on a button makes things easier. Press the button turns it on allowing to adjust the GND line and angle etc. Press and turn dial allows to change the GND settings for EV and Filter on front and back dials. Brief press of the button turns off the line to allow setting of exposure. Long press of the button turns GND off. A long press of the OK button will reset the line position. It is worth having a play to learn how it works before going out. I have tried a few shots hand held so far and like it for adding some sky detail and that it gives a RAW file. I did find the live view a bit distracting for framing hand held as it seems to be a bit slower to update - there's no way to turn off the simulation as for LiveND. I'd really like to get to the coast and have a chance to try it on some sea / waves scenes like you did here. From trying the GND 8 on speeding cars I found it was combining 8 frames, so I suppose this is what the 8 / 4 / 2 is for each EV level? Looking forward to the next video with filters.

    I originally thought it sucked but after using for the last couple of months, when used on a cloudy day without swinging trees or movement, I kinda like it. it's a jarring look compared to a HDR.
    You need to mention that once GND feature is on, you cannot change exposure, move the focus spot or take a movie. It is quite limiting on normal functions.

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  4 месяца назад +1

      To be perfectly honest, probably not. If your happy with the OM1 ( as I still am ) stay with the OM1. Its a lot of money to upgrade to the mkII. I still use my OM1 a heck of a lot, and apart form the slight autofocus improvement, its not the huge improvement that we got from the EM1X to the OM1. Having said that, the GradND is something that could not have been done with a firmware upgrade, and something I will use a fair bit.

      To be honest, if you only do wildlife, this facilty on the mkII is is not worth upgrading from an OM1. I take a lot of landscapes, so for me , its an advantage.

      Its a very valid comment Thomas. I did start filming my videos on a Dji action 4. With that the screen very close to the lens, and I have to look at the camera. This was shot on my spare OM1, and when I have it close to me with a wide angle, , I forget that I a looking at the screen and not the lens. When I got home and looked at the footage on the computer, I realised my mistake. 😕 I will endeavour not to make the same mistake again. 😟
