From Orchid to In Cauda Venenum, I love it all. Musical visionaries.
inspired by Italian progressive band Goblin :)
Now I wanna break out my Arrow Deep Red
It's VERY inspired by Goblin (of whom Mikael is a big fan) if you know your Goblin catalogue. The dry drums, the counterpoint bass, the repeated synth line etc... all Goblin signature traits. It's a great homage to the band Goblin and to some lesser extent Italian prog from the 70'ies.
:)
Man, I absolutely love "New" Opeth.
Fantastic drumming on this track, so smooth and jazzy
This track is dedicated to my maths teacher.
why
Listen to those changes, so progressive
@Zedrik Allen Probably because (s)he looks like a goblin? :P
There’s a lot of 4/4 but the snares land all over the place.
These guys just can't make bad music! I absolutely loved them back in the day and I absolutely love them now.
desertedvalhalla totally agree.
The theme of the song seems to be borrowed from Eternal Soul Torture (07:55 onwards), a bonus track on Morningrise which also inspired Advent and In The Mist She Was Standing.
This is some awesome, jazzy stuff..
The guitar part at 2:50 sounds straight out of a Camel song
The last 6 years of Opeth's career has been straight out of a Camel song. :p
As long as anything sounds like Andrew Latimer and Peter Bardens I'm okay with it...
Someone who know music here!
Absolutely right !
That's definitely Camel's sound.
I'm so happy that i am one of those who doesn't just listen to a track or an album once and then just throw it away if i don't like it. Love the album.
This one is great. It kind of reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra back in the day.
ProspectorAl . I never thought about that, but you're right. Nice.
I feel like I found Jesus, after listening to the band you mentioned... :-P amazing and totally ahead of their time
Only without the Guitar Virtuosity
Just watched Suspiria (1977) and felt compelled to listen to Opeth's homage :)
Very 70´s sound. Good song, I recommend that would be listened on a hi-fi system, the laptop sound sucks, it´s very different listened on a good sound system.
I just need this to be the theme music to a cop show. That's literally all I want out of life.
+Kenny Johnson It'd be more likely to front an Italian horror film.
like in starsky and hutch, that would be great
My brother and I are working on that soon. We are making this happen. Do you want to be credited?
OfficerMarmalade You don't need to, but I would be completely and utterly honored if you did so. Please keep me updated on your work!
Kenny Johnson
It's in pre-production.
Great lyrics.
If you can't hear the words, you're not listening
This sounds like a soundtrack from a Windows 95/98/2000 game.
what?
what the hell hahah
+socom88man simcity 3000
Oh no...I can't unsee the cheesy graphics and animations now...
I'm playin Spyro to THIS! Blasting hell ya
This is truly a masterpiece. I can't get tired of hearing this joint.
opeth as time passes become more and more amazing
I think Opeth should make more song like this in the future albums 🖒
Nah. They've really need to make a Watershed album where they have most progressive and some death metal
@@deathincarnateatheist7679 Akerfeldt won't growl anymore
@@toprak3479 Good
Remember hearing Opeth sometime back in them growling days, thinking they're not for me. A few years ago Fredrik Åkesson played a Thin Lizzy convention in Stockholm and did Black Rose with Thin Lizzy original drummer Brian Downey! (Lizzy and Lynott has been my house Gods since I was 13)
I was impressed and thought I'd check on Opeth once again - and I'm so happy I did!!
I'm stuck in Opeth now. The "new" evolved Opeth. Besides being incredibly accomplished musicians they can create music that touches so many levels and sides within me! Hats off for Mikael and the guys! Opeth is my greatest find in music since in two decades or more!
Discovering Opeth these days and I`m simply amazed.
It would be cool if Opeth and the Italian band Goblin did a collaboration song or two
Madison Perry however this song is a tribute to the italian band Goblin
Madison Perry however this song is a tribute to the italian band Goblin
I did not know that. But that's great that it is. Goblin is one of the best bands ever
Ghost Perry i didnt know Goblin. I am listening now. They're awesome. Thanks =)
Hakan ARIK Your welcome. That makes my day good Sir.
Morningrise is still my favorite, this somehow resonates with it. thumbs up!
Based Opeth, going all anti-commercial.
When were they EVER commercial?
This song makes a strong running for my favorite track on the record. Love it. Drums especially!
when ozric met the crimsons
Working night shift, Oct 31-Nov 1st 2020.
Daylight savings ended, which means we all get another hour on the clock.
This song is the mood of the night.
loving the jazz vibes
Listen to Goblin's 'Suspiria' , you'll see where they took the inspiration for this one.
Quit trolling.
Gian Marco Giacomini They actually took inspiration from the even self-titled song GOBLIN of the same band as Akerfeldt himself stated this, and he decided to maintain the same title.
This video, like all the others from Pale Communion, is alienating my mind and I like it!!!
Fackin love this song
I like this album a lot but I´m not a tipical Opeth fan... I like prog music and this is excellent prog album. I still think it has Opeth heavyness but without growl and distortion sound. To me they were always prog metal and not death metal band. I like this one just as much as I like Still life, which is my favourite Opeth album. I never cared for new metal too much ... I still prefer oldschool.
This needs more views. Why does this not have more views?
Is it just me, or the bass line at the beginning sounds like when you complete a mission in GTA: Vice City?
Awesome
GROOVY
That fucking bass!!!!!!!!!!!! Mendez is on point in this album
I didn't know Opeth did porn music :P
Aaron Gentry best porn music ever :D
All Opeth music is porn...
What do you reckon, is this the blowjob scene or the anal scene?
SOMEONE LINK THAT VIDEO!
What the fuck kind of porn do you watch? Look for actual old 70s and 80s porno.
a tribute to 70s prog rock.
Lo mejor de lo mejor opeth
Professionally!
rock happy
Amazing job on the videos, also on the music.
Wow!
Definitely the greatest prog album ever
sounds like a Sci Fi movie! another amazing instrumental by Opeth1
This song can be used for any of the 90's game and would fit in perfectly. That's the magic of this song. And yeah watch this video when high total trippy. Fuck am high I guess
I could play Spyro to this, now that you mention it.
You don't trip from weed, and I'm not sure many of us have acid or shrooms just laying around.
This matches Flashback so fucking much!
Great...sound Frank Zappa-ish. Great timing in odd measures
this is the kind of music that should replace those shitty beats they use when you're put on hold over the phone, like when you call your insurance or electric company.
+Shane Lank that's kind of insulting to this song
Good sound!
the perfect ''heritage'' from Goblin band
well this is better i was very sad with heritage and watershed because opeth was going too prog for my taste, but this has some jazzy tunes that i like...
Very cool!
The synth track and the video remind me of Boards of Canada.
Wow nice, a bit different from the ordinary Opeth but it is cool.
Օքչէհ
second!
these videos blow my mind
Great song! :D
Thank you National geographic for your free episode here in RUclips
This sounds like the soundtrack to a show like Magnum P.I. or Columbo. So sad to see Opeth move in this direction. At least they still have several solid albums to relisten to.
I hear some jean luc ponty (enigmatic ocean) in this
I agree, this is very Mahavishnu-esque
I think this song is good, but maybe out of context in the album...
Gabivador Really? This goes great with the album, haha.
Just listened to the album
On its own it sounds quite good, I just didn't understand its place in the album :\
Me either tbh. But I love it 😅
Another sample of Opeth maturing into a grown-up versatile band instead of sticking to all-growling shouting mess that everybody else around them do. I cannot celebrate them enough for this,
+hitchpster its a shame you think of them that way. I respect your opinion but your comment comes off as very condescending and uneducated, as if you think metal music inferior just because you don't like/understand it.
+liminalexpression Exactly! I find this new version Opeth boring and somewhat pretentious, but to each their own.
+BlackRoseImmortal I must say I'm not a huge fan of the new stuff either. but for reasons that are the exact opposite that hitchpster guy. comments like that really bother me.
+BlackRoseImmortal that's interesting because I thought the older opeth was boring and pretentious.
aligatorsandwitch72
every person will have different taste. its nothing too unusual or interesting. there's plenty of people who like old opeth, there's plenty of people who like new opeth and there's plenty who like both as well. bottom line is, opeth has always made amazing music regardless of differences in musical taste.

I just came through my space suit!
l la influencia del opa trio es notoria ecxelente cancion
This song reminds me of Sim City for some reason...
sim city 2000?
All the good prog rock songs are from 70's and 80's. Nowadays there are no good prog songs.
*comes across this song*
Guess i was wrong
What about Porcupine Tree?
Amo!!!! :D :D :D
nice
buenos sonidos
I can see the first part as something Herbie Hancock would write for the Headhunters album
This is now my Goblin Druid's theme song in my D&D 5e campaign
Opeth Tentacles
Cerbero Podcast Theme Song
Filthy jazz. I mean that in an absolutely positive way.
Does anyone else hear a heavy Zappa influence here?
Snakes everywhere o.O
This is guitar tuna
Oh yes. Muy jazzy. Very prog.
Which organ sound is used in this?
Claudio Simonetti Docet
I like how Axenrot plays here!
It is Lopez in fact and yes, you do feel his superiority.
***** Lopez?
I though it was Axenrot
…it says on the album booklet is Axenrot.
Yes, It is, I was just wondering why e633xx said "Lopez?"
which organ is used for this
Is this a tribute to Goblin band??
Yes
***** Goblin italian band?
Yes
I love them and I love Opeth. This tribute is simply fantastic :) :)
omg nilbog !
22 people are stuck in 2001
Sorry, I'd help if I could. I know 45 people that are stuck in 1985. I still can't get anyone to help me :(
+Hammas Ahmed Chaudhry genious comment
Or underwhelmed by elevator music.
Fact is as good as their new stuff is, their old stuff makes it look like shit.
Invisible Dumpster
Then they should listen to this !
Jazz.
The ITALIANITY is strong in this one. You can almost imagine the Opeth guys having spaghetti bolognese and talking "bapadabuppi! bipidipappada!"
Reminds me of Spyro 1 OST somehow. :)
YES! I thought I was the only one
Is it me or the bass and drum style of this song sound like Abba's Dancing Queen?
Yes, much?
When Pale Communion was about to be released I saw the title of that song and thought "I have high hopes that this will have some old school growls" based on the title. Not only there were no growls when I first listened to it, there were no vocals at all. Still an amazing song though.
So Camel.
Esse cd segue a linha do Dream Theater , esperava uma coisa mais densa .
"I have this gift for making awesome, beautiful death metal." *Throws it away*
Netherminde More like "I have this gift to make awesome music of any kind," *doesn't stick to awesome death metal and actually makes different awesome music*
Netherminde listen to some other beautiful death metal then instead of bitching on Mikael, there's plenty of it out there
These effects visuals gave me a seizure, just kidding, great song.
Sounds like they stole most these riffs from Al Di Meola
Stealing? This was inspired by 70's prog music. Why people instantly say "Oh they ripped off this guy" "They stole this riffs" enough.
I can call it stealing. You can call it borrowing or inspired or whatever.
It's a tribute song to Goblin, so we shouldn't be surprised to hear influences.
You mean like they ripped off Camel for 'Benighted'? It's always been that way
