- When an archaeologist goes looking for something and finds what they're expecting, it's exciting. When they go looking for something but find something they weren't expecting, that's potentially even more exciting. We all love the thrill of the unknown, and for archaeologists, the unknown comes in the shape of surprising, fantastic artefact discoveries! Sometimes they even get a little help from members of the public, as you're about to see in this video.
Beautiful things. Impossible to have a favourite. The gold Nautilus shell is rather stunning and I love the workmanship of the coral
inlay of the Celtic helmet.
Absolutely wonderful finds, thank you.

Many Vikings settled in what is now Russia and so those who were there worked with the Vikings on many things, Such as jewelry and other metal making.

I always enjoy listening to Seth Rogen (not really, I suppose, but the narrator REALLY sounds like him) tell me about cool artifacts. One observation here, however - - - this video should be called "12 Cool Things People Found That Ended Up in the British Museum." I think nearly all of the items in this video ended up there.
3 or 4 Thousand years does'nt seem that long anymore ! watched alot of this ! interesting ! :)
Wish they would show the actual artifacts instead of some non related item.
Ummmm, they do.
@@lexioncombine9403 sometimes! A lot of the time it is unrelated images!
Oh course it would be england where you would find a pair of ancient dentures
Didn't know Seth Rogan took this gig..
I'm not suprised at the Russian influence in the viking treasure.
The Swedish vikings had settled in now Russia & Ukraine, and they were kalled the Rus, so Russia is actually named after Swedish vikings.
They traided all around the Black Sea, and even with the Bysanthians.
And of course also traided the Baltic Sea, where the Danish vikings were overlly represented, and proberlly took their welth with them to Britainia.
At least someone else has studied the Rus history. The Vikings were also known to have traded in Baghdad in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and were also known to be bodyguards for the emperors of the Eastern Roman empire. A lot of people don't even know about the Viking connections in Russia and the middle East.
@@Johnrob1943 I'm Danish, and grew up in Sweden, so shame on me, if I didn't know my herritage ;)
It's my own theory, but with the Norwegian vikings in the royal bodyguards in Konstantinobel, I'm quite shure, that the Norwegian Forrest cat are relatet to the Turkish Angora cat.
No viking would ever travle so far, whithout a cat on the ship, to catch tre rats and mice on board.
Maby even the American Main Coon cat is also more or less related to the Norwegian cat, brought in by the Norwegian settlers in the 1800 century?
@@hellevirenfeldt3608 if you have any more knowledge, I wouldn't be too stupid to learn more. A close friend of mine is Asatru and he and I used to talk for hours, and we had a great time talking history and beliefs.
@@Johnrob1943 I have a light knowledge of most religions, including Nordic/ Greek/ Roman mythologi, that is very close to eachother, even if the Nordic Asatru (original) is far off, from the Mediterainian.
I allso know that all "one god religion" is based in very ancient roots, and go as far as the Egyptians, and proberbly are older than that.
Jesus was Jewis, and Muhammed was either Jew, Christian or was born into one of the tribes, who had a religion based on nature.
There are even doubt, if Mohammed even existed,, because he has never been mentioned in his time, not by anyone.
Moses was mentioned in the Egyptian scrolls, of his time, he was possible a 26 son of a konkubine, and named Tutmosis.
Jesus was mentioned in the Roman archive, so yes, he existed, and no, as a athiest, I don't belive he was the son of god, more likely he was the fruit of a Roman soldierr, or the qute boy next dor ;)
@@hellevirenfeldt3608, that's hilarious. I've been studying almost the exact same thing as you. I actually started with ancient Greek religion in elementary school and graduated to Roman. Then, I started studying Egyptian religion a few years after Roman, and graduated to ancient Mesopotamia. I then looked at Hindu a little bit, but then went to ancient Keltoi and Asatru. I also delved into Native American tribes. It's fun to see the differences and similarities between all of the different belief systems. I told a native American friend of mine that European and native American beliefs were "kissing cousins " and at first he started to get angry. When I sat down and explained the similarities and differences between them, he had to sit back and think about what I'd said.
When he finally thought about what I'd said, he admitted that he could see what I'd said was true.
There are so many similarities between the different belief systems that they all should be seen as coming from at least one or two different belief systems.
It's fun actually getting back into talking with someone who has also studied and researched similar knowledge, and sitting down to have intelligent conversations about them, without having arguments about them. I actually miss those conversations. Thanks for this, I truly need this. 😀👍
