i have a question.... i have a pendrive locked by bitlocker on another pc . now i dont have the password and access to that main computer so i cant open that pendrive. will this trick work without knowing password and main computer.
I was in a big trouble when I formatted my C drive (system drive) and my other drives like D, E and F were locked by bitlocker and I didn't know the recovery key. After some trial and error, I finally was able to unlock those drive without losing the data. Here is how you can also unlock your drives: (You need to have a dell laptop) -Restart system and enter a BIOS mode (Keep pressing F12 if you are a dell user. For other manufacturers, key might get differ). -After entering BIOS, you will see an option called 'SupportAssist OS Recovery' and press enter. -Choose option RESET (This will re-install the factory operation system that came with the system when you had bought it) -After choosing RESET, you will see 2 options: Reset to factory setting and Reset and update. -Choose Reset to factory setting (You might want to take back up of your C drive if there are any important files stored on your desktop, documents, downloads, etc. because this will format your C drive (where windows is installed) and will re-install the factory OS.) -It will take 15-20 mins and you are done! -You will be asked setup your system (like new). -Once it is done, you will see that your locked drives have been unlocked successfully and data is still there in the drives as you left. THIS IS HOW IT WORKED FOR ME. I'M POSTING THIS IN ORDER TO HELP SOMEONE WHO IS FACING THE SIMILAR ISSUE.
Why is it not asking for a password to unlock BitLocker; is it because you are already logged into the machine it was made on; what if it was an external disk plugged into another machine; would it ask for the password to turn it off; otherwise, what is the point of bitlocker; just plug the drive into another machine and turn it off.

Everybody does these videos assuming you have access to Windows . When my laptop starts it IMMEDIATELY asks for the bitlocker key and that is as far as you get.

So you are telling me you can do this on any drive? Or this only works for a drive or usb that was originaly set bitlocker encryption from your pc? Because whats the point of bitlocker then if you can reset it from any pc simply from powershell im confused 🤔
The status of the drive F was unlocked. So I assume this is for when you actually know the password. I don't think it's possible to remove the encryption without knowing the password in the first place and keep the data. Am I wrong?
You are right. At 0:18 you can see that F drive is unlocked. That Power Shell method with the Disable-Bitlocker command would not work if the drive was Bitlocker locked. He should've been a little clearer on that.

What defense is there against a user getting onto a given computer and using this command to de crypt your drives ? Once they know this they could do this to any machine from command prompt . Even if they cant log onto the machine , can this be done by rebooting the machine to command prompt only ?

What about when BitLocker already has you locked out of your Cdrive so you can't access the StartUp menu? Seems you have to do everything in Blue Screen land & must do all the code there. Do you have a vid for that?
Mate your amazing I need to put a hard drive in my laptop. The one in there now is the newest one it just looks like a little circuit board with the stander connection on it . You can move it to a different place inside and put the standard hard drive were the other one was . I got a dell latitude E7440. Basically I tuke a hard drive from a sky box but it needs formatting etc . Have you got a video you done which can show me how to do please. It will be great to get heard back from you . Very useful overview but my laptop is locked following a repair to my Dell Win 11 Home laptop. I had removed my "data" SSD prior to the repair and when I replaced it post repair the SSD became encrypted. I've no Bitlocker key and the disk is locked. The "manage-bde" command won't work because the disk is locked and it won't unlock it without a key. Suitable subject for a video Brian?

All I get is disable bitlocker is not recognized as and internal or external command. Does it only work when windows is booted? My laptop is stuck in the recovery mode and won't boot into windows. I can access the command prompt through recovery options but it doesn't seem to be working. Every time you reboot it asks for a bit locker key. And my niece said she never set one up on the computer?

The bitlocker locked the C: disk, and I can't use many of the main settings in Windows. In fact, the code of "Disable-Bitlocker" isn't recognized in PowerShell. I am unable to access the desktop and am stuck in the win10 installation screen. It shows that the primary partition is encrypted and looks like I will have to use CMD to unlock this, hopefully.

To solve this Issue you have, go to the bios, manage to activate the secure booting option, then restart and it may now recognize your encryption.

Bitlocker partitions dont get merge to unlocated space if u want to extend your drive size.
