How long does it take for a date to grow that u can actually eat?

hahaha, all through the fall and winter I toss kitchen scraps into my raised vegetable garden box, a few days ago while watering my garden, I spotted an interesting looking leaf or stem of some kind growing, so I left it alone to see what might become of it.... and it looks IDENTICAL to the date plant here at the 5:12 mark of this video! Yay me, I grew a date palm without even trying!😃❤

Question: When will the fruits be produced after how many years, will the palm tree become male or female when grown from seeds?
Date palms can take 4 to 8 years after planting before they will bear fruit, and start producing viable yields for commercial harvest between 7 and 10 years.

I used too many paper towels and it took 90 days to germinate the first time. I used less paper towels and they took one month to germinate. I potted them yesterday when they’re the size of what you’re holding right now. The first lot are one month old after potting and they haven’t really opened up yet. The second batch from the first lot seem like they are stunted. Out of despair, I added organic manure yesterday too. I guess they will open up after 2 to 3 months more.
If we recognize that it's part of gardening, patiently waiting becomes tolerable and eventually enjoyable. Good luck! :)
@@SproutingSeeds you’re right. Patience is the key. Thank you. One thing I am not sure of is when do I put them out in the sun or in indirect sunlight. So far I have placed them in the shade but where there’s light in the house. No sun.

No dates doesn't work like that. You need to pollinate the female palms to produce fruit and the fruit quality depends on the pollination.🌴

I have 2 young palm trees that I grew from seed.They are about 20days old and are like yours.The small part at the bottom is getting more brown last days, just like your young palm trees in the video... Is this natural or something to worry about?

Female date palms are conventionally distinguished from the male trees only when they begin to produce fruit around the age of five. It takes about five to eight years for female seedlings to bear fruits, which is when they become distinguishable from male trees.
I did the same but my seeds turned black powdery, probably fungus or something. How can I prevent this and how should I 're do it?

Ajwa dates are propagated from pups that branch off from the parent plant. Dates don't grow true from seed, so the plants you grow will be completely different varieties than the parent plant.

This method will work in any climate cuz I've done it at 48c~6c temperatures with good results. For the best results spring season is best.🌴

You have to wait until the upper soil dries out.
Nice, but date seeds are not true to seed. The fruit grown from seed will mostly be inferior to either smaller fruit or of a different taste. To get the exact quality, you must get and grow the offshoot from the exact variety. That will produce the exact same quality since it is basically a clone of the variety.
You are right. From seed it won’t produce the same kind it will be just some other kind of dates. And most likely it won’t even produce any fruit.
