    Wow! This video and the helpful comments are just what I needed. My lavender orpington, Violet started with this one week ago out of the blue. She's at least 7. years old and after keeping chickens for almost 20 years, I've never seen this before. She could not eat, drink or sleep for two days because of the severity of the wry neck. I carefully syringed liquid, E, liquid selenium and B1 complex in water twice a day. Patience was very, very necessary. At day 3 she was able to eat as long as I held her head low and gently placed my hand on her back. She still cannot stand but is improving each day, just SO slowly. What a terrible condition. I'm not sure but I think it may have started due to hawk stress. I have one that likes to visit the yard while they are free-ranging but I am always with them while they are out so they are safe. It is a commitment to treat this but it seems it will work - it just takes a while.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! IT WORKED!!! I THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!! HER HEAD WAS JUST HANGING. SHE WOULDNT EAT OR DRINK!!! I DIDNT HAVE ANY CAPSULES OF VITAMIN E, so I used a bottle that you use on scars and stuff. . I ended up messing up the egg really well and making it into liquid and putting vitamin e in it and put it in the syringe and it was difficult to get it in there cuz their head was hanging low while it was hanging straight down, but some was better than none.

    Hi my 9 months old silkie has a wry neck now and is pretty serious - I have been feeding her selenium and multi-vitamin supplement mixed in the water and feed to her in a syringe, the first 2 days she was still eating (but very little) but from last night and today - she don't eat at all.. what else I should to to help her? I've been told 23mcg of selenium per day. Is multi-vitamin good enough (which contains Vit A, D3, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C and E or should I give her vitamin E only? if so, how much should I feed her?

      Hello there and thank you for your comment! I am so sorry for your little feathered friends difficulties. Of course, I’m not a veterinarian, so this is only based on my own personal experiences. But I would do exactly as I did in my video. I personally don’t think a multivitamin with contain enough vitamin E. I would take a vitamin E capsule or liquid vitamin E and mix it in the food just as I did in the video. If she’s having difficulty eating, I would do exactly as I did in the video. Hopefully your little friend will be alright. Good luck!

    • @coolmountainman8315
      @coolmountainman8315  Год назад +1

      as far as I know, there is no exact dosage of vitamin E, so, as I said, I would simply try to replicate exactly as I did in the video. I personally do not believe it has to be very precise, just do the best you can to replicate what I did in the video. Once again, I am not a veterinarian, this is only based on my personal experience.

      @@coolmountainman8315 thanks again for your kind reply, i bought some vitamin E 250 IU for my chick today and boiled an 🥚 for her, managed to feed her 1/3 of it, she ate very very slowly but it's good progress she's eating as she hasn't eaten for 2 days. I put her to sleep now and hopes she'll get better soon! Btw. I found that there're ticks on her as i guess she can't dust bath for a few days, the ticks even bites me after i hold her, I've sprayed some pesticides inside the box she's sleeping, any other recommendations you can provide?

    • @coolmountainman8315
      @coolmountainman8315  Год назад +2

      @@tweetylove539 you are very welcome! And thank you for updating me on your progress! Just keep doing what you’re doing☺️ But instead of spraying pesticides, I would strongly suggest food grade diatomaceous earth. It’s not very expensive, you can purchase it at tractor supply or other farm supply stores. Careful not to breathe it, careful around the head of your animal, because too much can cause respiratory problems. But it is way better than any pesticides. It destroys fleas, ticks, mites and many other pest. Think of it sort of like a flea powder. Perhaps, if you have a latex glove to protect your hands, you can use that. If not simply wash your hands quickly after applying it to your chicken and the chickens bedding. Because it is food grade you can also add a pinch of it to your chickens food. It has a lot of health benefits and it also destroys internal parasites such as worms. A little goes a long way. Just remember, I am not a veterinarian, this is only a suggestion based on my personal experience, and what I would do.

    I am going through this right now with a Bantam Naked Neck Turken hen that is about 7 months old... First Time Experiencing such.
    In the mornings, I put Vit. E, B-Complex and Selenium Vitamin in her morning small water 6oz unit. Plus, I make her an egg with Vit. E and Selenium mixture with a few drops of Poly-Sol (NO IRON). She can drink and eat on her own, and acts well...
    But, by evening, she is back to her head twisting about, etc...
    So I repeat the process... and she gets back acting nicely again..
    She has her own house to sleep in, so that she can rest...
    But, come morning, when I go to let her out, the head twist is back and I repeat the process again..
    This has now gone on for almost 2 weeks...
    Normally, how long until things start getting better without me having to intervene?

    My baby chicken has wry neck and it’s really severe. She won’t eat anything besides her baby food. I try to mix boiled egg in her food but she just throws it out and eats her food. As I’m typing this shes trying to eat my hair 💀. I have to help her with everything and she can only stand for 30 seconds before falling over and twisting her head on her side. I ordered some selenium and vitamin E for her but I bet she won’t eat that either and it’ll be a waste of money

      I am so sorry that your little feathered friend is suffering from this. I would personally suggest doing as I did in the video. Perhaps if you crumble the boiled egg as I did and be patient. Hold her in such a way that she can still eat it. I have found that the liquid vitamin E capsules are the best. The fact she is trying to eat your hair I believe proves she has an appetite ha ha😂😂 Best of luck with her😊
