  • After my very interesting experience riding dirt bikes in the mountains of British Columbia at Grizzbait, I came home with a new appreciation for smaller lighter bikes and it wasn't long before I found a Honda CRF250F on Facebook Marketplace that I just had to buy. Our friend ‪@thegracefulrenegade‬ also recently decided to get back into dirt bike trail riding and picked herself up a vintage Honda CRF250X. We got together for some fun dirt bike trail riding at Cline Buttes OHV in Oregon and had a blast hitting the rocks and sand together.

    Hi Dork, I own the CRF250F too, my only suggestion is that you are in to low of a gear, the beauty of this bike is it's ability to tractor. Try shifting to one gear higher and see what you think, I think you will enjoy it more. Thanks

      As someone notes elsewhere it's a modern XR200 (albeit overweight) with terrible suspension and no power. You just thrash the sh#t out of it, accept the whole thing is overwhelmed and have fun. And Dork is kinda heavy in loose sand, lugging it you'd get nowhere.

      As someone who grew up riding two strokes motocross and enduro bikes , but now four strokes , listening to a four stroke on dirt just isn’t the same .

    I have a Beta XTrainer and a CRF450L. The XTrainer is super easy to ride and super confidence inspiring, much like the Honda CRF250F. It's my fun bike, my training bike. As soon as I started riding it just a few months ago, it instantly made me a better rider on my CRF450L. I can do things on the 450L now that I wouldn't have dared trying before riding the XTrainer. So yes, the things you learn on that bike will translate upward to your 450L and most likely to the bigger ADV bikes. It would be neat to see you do a back-to-back comparison between the two CRFs on the same trails.

    The crf250f was my gateway drug to off-road. Now I have a beta 200rr and I’m ready to sell my street bike. The dirt is where it’s at. I bought the 250f waiting for the 300l and the 250f really highlighted how lacking the 300l is off road.

    • @jwaller1327
      @jwaller1327 8 месяцев назад +1

      After 20 years of street riding, I got the KLX300 and started riding off road too. After a year of that, a friend let me ride his CRF250F off road and yes, that really highlighted how lacking the KLX is too. I knew I had to get a real dirt bike. I traded my KLX300 for a Honda CRF250RX because the dealership had one of those but not the CRF250F. That was a bit too much of a jump in performance for me. After about a year and a half of that I traded the CRF250RX in for a Beta XTrainer. I did also get a CRF450L for dual sport use, but I no longer ride pavement for fun at all; only for connecting trail or light commuting. I tried the Beta 200 Race Edition. What a bike!. But I wanted to start tackling more challenging terrain and the slightly smaller size of the XTrainer won me over. The dirt, indeed, is where it's at!

    It is way funner to ride a slow bike fast than it is a fast bike slow.
    When I got back into bikes after a 20 year break I went with an XT250 just for that reason.
    250s will go faster than I want to crash and if I do fall over I can pick it up myself!
    Dork you can kit that thing out to be a dual sport for sure.

    I'm about your size, and I think the air cooled Honda 230/250 are hugely under-rated. They are great bikes, tons of fun, super reliable. And they have enough power to do anything I want. Its great for taking folks out for their first ever ride on a dirt bike.

    Looks like a lot of fun! You keep mentioning risers...on dirt, these will work against you, . With proper body position, you really shouldn't have them; the risers tend to not let you keep your elbows up and chest over the bar. I worked with Edgar Cota (who just won the Baja 1000 Ironman) on my bike setup and the first thing he did was make me remove my risers! It was a game changer.

      I understand that it's better to go without them, but I'm too lazy and heavy to bend my knees enough all the time. a 1/2 inch riser makes a big difference and ensures that I'm standing when I need to be. I don't ride hard enough for it to make a difference, I promise. I've been running them for years.

Forget all the nonsense of using adventure bikes for off-road unless you are experienced and like to pick up a 500+ pound bike off the ground. I put a Baja design headlight and taillight on it so I don’t have to worry about being out late. The bike is almost indestructible. I ride with my grandson and son-in-law on single trails all up and down Missouri. If you are a new rider, this is a bike to consider.

    Hi. I like your channel. I suggest that you consider creating one video where the focus is on getting the whole family involved. I like hanging out with the guys as much as anybody but there are many of us who didn’t create family’s just to leave them out of our vacations. And include pets too. I know you have both a family and at least one dog! When I think of riding adventures I try to think about how we can all be part of it. I am older and have two young adult sons. All of us ride and we love it. I have two dogs and I’m always thinking about how we can take them along with us! I also have a nice aluminum trailer for our bikes. For example, we have been thinking about trailering from Minnesota to the Black Hills and finding a cabin and maybe a local dog kennel where we can leave the dogs while we explore. Ouray Colorado is another place I like going too. Thanks! Mike

    If you can I would HIGHLY recommend going to a camp put on by The Mx Factory. Tyler travels the country putting on these 1 and 2 day camps. I did the 2 day camp and it massively improved my riding! It changed the way I feel on a dirt bike in a huge way, and I’m a safer rider now too! And don’t worry, even though it’s a “motocross” camp you don’t actually spend much time on the track. It’s all about body positions and hammering in the fundamentals, and I think it could make a huge difference for your riding. Cheers!
