I first heard this song well over 50 years ago and KNEW even then how great it was. I'm still listening to it in England on my 76th birthday 29th December 2018. God bless you Tom Paxton.
jayburlington I haven't heard about it until few days ago. since then I played this few times each day. He won't be forgotten. because his songs are more applicable now than ever .
The problem is that America elects the same fine men again and again, but if the population are dissatisfied with their current leader, they give him another four years.
This song reminds of Dylan's 'A Hard Rain's Goanna Fall'. They both like start out with a question "What did you learn in school today?", "Where have you been", "what did you see", and then are responded with a handful of cleverly written verses that simply answer the preceeding question. Then ends with a nice reptitive chorus. Damn i love folk music
Was going through an old high school book, it had these lyrics sung, not written, by Pete Seeger, a long time ago, and oh how the black n white audience chortle...
@@Verbindungsfehle not gonna lie, I first heard it from a Frontier ad and thought it was serious, but I went to this video and was happily proven wrong.

I learned that COVID ain’t so bad Except for grandma and grandad And everything’s fine when we all get the jab. That’s what I learned in school today. That’s what I learned in school.

Hello, how are you today? 25th August 2019
I wish you listen to the same song at your 100th birthday as well.
How was 29th December 2022?
This song is just as or even more important today, as it was 60 years ago when Pete sang this in Australia. Biting folk music, brilliant !
Haha, he took a second to remember the second verse. He extends the "I" in "I learned that policemen..." for 2 extra beats. Smooth execution.
Watching in 2020. Absolutely nothing has changed.
It's been a year. May Pete never be forgotten.

Damn even more so 2024. Fascism is alive now.
Superbly written and excellently sung. It is 2017 and even now seems so refreshing
we love you Pete! You are a beautiful modern day folks singer !!! You've always fought for true equality and the ordinary man
Can't stop watching again and again ❤️
Supratim Nayak nothing has changed
Just like how we are going to elect are presidents, again and again!
Decades later and the world has not changed! Thanks for the post. Peace out.
Happy Birthday, Comrade
I learned music and trigonometry. When I leave school I'm going to form a band and play the isosceles triangle.
Things dont change........hopefully we'll always have a prophet to strum our conscious awake
Glad this showed up. Loved it when I first heard it, age 11 or 12... and now it is 2020, and this song is true than ever.

And nothing has changed ... I guess we deserve the government we have
A bad government treats its people badly. An intelligent bad government persuades them it's their own fault.

Imagine there are people who didn't get the sarcasm
Yes lots!
Truths can be stranger then fiction
Imagine one day most people won't get the sarcasm anymore.
Pretty much summons up my experience with school-systems in 2019.
With new laws banning teaching of "critical race theory", this song is so relevant it's mind-blowing.

This is more about brainwashing than what one learns in school
maybe because he's implying that what you learn in school is brainwashing
It's just a shame he was a tankie
It means that he's a communist. I'm not, I'm more of a Democratic Socialist.
Robinanna neibauer Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... Ahahahahahahaha. You are a commie. You just don't know it yet!!
Tankie means he is an authoritarian socialist, not that he is a communist.
