- Playing with different formulas.. in different ways. Floating Cup technique..
abstract art..
(please pardon my typo.. oops)
This is a test piece for a collaboration I'm working on with Sarah Mack
I wanted to play with the idea of combining different elements.. differently in a poor. The first test is using the floating cup technique.
My colours are Artminds DIY candy apple, Sargent copper, Rust-Oleum metallic accents gold mine, Arteza's Pearl olive green with a bit of black added, black, and a white base coat of house paint mixed with floetrol and water.
This is a 14 inch square canvas. I layered a small paper cup with my paints ..putting the black between each colour. I then flipped it on to the white base coat... poked a hole in the cup and let it float and release the paint.
From here it's a matter of tilting.. shmearing.. working in composition.. I also added a few great big shmears with the Amsterdam formula to create pretty lacing and cells.
I broke my favourite pallet knife during this painting.. it was just right.. ya know?
Watch for a couple of really exciting collaborations coming up.
One with our very talented Sarah Mack, and one with the one and only.. Tammy Russell Anderson.
If you don't already know these artists.. I don't know where you have been.. Both are ground breaking fluid artists.. who have inspired me along the way..
Also planning to play with some magic potions with Sara Taylor.. You need to see what she has been doing..
I love her eye for colour and composition..
2021 is turning out to be a good year.
Let's keep playing with pigments and making beautiful things.
I could watch the magic in the chemistry of paint all day long...

I have watched so many RUclips videos with so many different artists pouring acrylic in so many different ways, that I thought I had seen it all.... (To me it is more skilled craftsmanship than art. )
But then I discovered your art! It is nothing like the rest. Your art is organic, sensual, stunningly beautiful. To watch your paintings slowly develop in front of my eyes, getting more awesome every second, is like meditation in a mystic temple. I am completely absorbed. And without even noticing it, I learn a lot. THANK YOU.
I found a real artist in you. Your creativity is amazing. A lot of the artists paintings all look the same, but you put real heart into.
As soon as you poked the hole i saw beautiful hot air balloon floating in the sky.. just beautiful Gail 🥰
Yes.. it does look like that.. thanks
I'm totally in love with this painting Gail! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work! I'm so inspired to try this ❤❤❤
...it i always a kind of meditation to see you work calm and silently.... Thank you so much for letting us be with you!
I love your art. Greetings from Austria
Way cool! Color combo is interesting. A great video reminder to be patient and work with the paint.❤
Beautiful! Love watching your process! Thank you❣️
I think my favorite parts are in the effects within the white. But a very pretty painting. Thank you!
Even your experiments have so much fluidity of design. Also loved the color combination.
Thank you.. it is so much fun..
Well you inspired patience in me! 💞Love this and really enjoyed viewing the finished piece in everyone’s work!
Oooh, those greens! Lucious!❤

Another beauty!
Amazing !!! 🤩🤩😍😍😍👏👏👏
Stunning
Fabulous!!!!!!
really stunning!!!
😍 LOVELY. In the beginning I saw an amazing Gothic Dragon emerging. As you stretched the canvas to take on the excess paint, it took on this amazing abstract of beauty with line work. Your techniques rock!
Well.. tank you so very much. Sometimes I wonder what guides me
@@GailBurstynLifeInSplatters Your Heart ❤️

I go to bed each night thinking what I will do next or what colors to pu together, lol. Sweet dreams! This one’s a keeper, as always
Me too!!! Always trying new things...

Very good Congratulations
Very Pretty! Looks great!
Wow! Looks like it is floating on the canvas. I think flip cups are a good idea for pre loved or pre disliked canvasses. Was wondering what to try this morning
This is beautiful! I can’t wait for our collab Friday!
Your awesome!
Beautiful and imaginative. Love it💖
t q again .. keep the good work going .. 😉
Lovely work!❤️
Love how you explained your thoughts. I really enjoyed the process, and uniqueness of the painting!
There are so many beautiful aspects of this painting!!! Just Beautiful!!!! 👏👏👏💕🧜♀️
Das ist toll geworden 👏😃
Your forethought certainly shows in your artwork! I'm not usually a fan of white negative space, but the way you've integrated it into and out of the composition gives it power and poetry. Today, we need your poetry.
Thank you again and as always. Love it. The way the paints played with each other just continues your magic touch. Have a great day. Hugs 🤗
You too Roberta..
Mesmerizing and stunning. I have enjoyed watching your process. Thank you for sharing.
You're my hero 😀
Looks like a dragon at one point but without his front legs.
Subscribed!
Gail, you never cease to amaze me. I am in awe of the delicate lines that complement the focal point so well.
Always always love your composition and color palette. They bring out one’s creative imagination. Thank you Gail for taking us to your awesome art world.
Thank you LEM.. glad you enjoyed..
Hi Gail, this is absolutely gorgeous! Love the colors your working with ! Looking forward to seeing the collaboration. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece! Have a great day stay safe ✌️♥️
Thanks so much..
Love, love, LOVE the color combination, especially the greens. Unfortunately many artists stick to pink, purples, and blue's. It would be great to see a similar one. Can't wait to hear what your process was
Simply beautiful! Love what happened with the black!❤️🌷
Just Gorgeous Gail. Love the colors, cells and lacing- just perfect amount.
Your "little gifts" you sometimes find in your paints... That's adorable! 😁 I hope you don't mind if I adopt that saying. It's so much more pleasant than the other names people give them! This is absolutely gorgeous!!👍👍
Yes.. other terms can be a bit too descriptive..
This is so perfect !! Depth, cells, combination of colors ..remember this one for my next lesson !!!😆
I so admire the way you gently touch your palette knife to the paint and create magic. I'm working on the whole concept of "gentle". This is a beautiful painting and inspires me to keep trying. Take care and stay safe.
Thanks Dawn.. the trick is to get the blade as parallel to the surface as possible
Stunning! I always enjoy your paintings. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Thank you so much!
Really pretty! Awesome colors and composition. Great job!!
Oh my goodness! That is absolutely gorgeous
thank you
Blessings Dear Gail. May this year be a kind one for you.❤️🇦🇺🦋
So beautiful!
Your piece is so gorgeous. I love the way that you’re so gentle with the paint when you smear I have to learn how to be more gentle I guess. Still working on it not going together. Again I love this piece in the color combination amazing Gail!
Thank you!!
Beautiful! You are a brave and patient artist 😊🤩.
You have to be.. only partially in control with this art firm.
This is the 1st time that I watched your video and I’m in💜. I don’t know if you answer questions about earlier videos but I’ll take a chance. I have some questions: 1 - How did you mix the paint? 2 - is it important how you layer the colors? 3 - did you use silicone? Your paint seemed as if it was blooms(which I don’t Knoe anything about yet) and it remind me also of pearl paint. Thank you 4 sharing and I’m sure I’ll look at the rest of your videos. 👏💜👏💜👏💜👏💜👏
Another beauty Gail ❤️
I love your colors and the composition and just enough negative space. Of course I loved the painting that you poured over. Do you any particular brand of house paint for your base. And Is it a Satin paint?
Thank you love that green look forward to knowing how you did it this is going to be a great year X
Thank you Linda, as always for being so kind. Let's make it a great year
Gail I love this and wouldn’t want to lose any part of it quite a dilemma I can see. I’m only just starting to learn about this art, what if you took a turkey baster and sucked up a little of the excess paint at certain points before continuing to stretch again , would this be an option ? just wondering 🥴🥰
Beautiful Gail. Would love to get together on another collaboration this year!! Happy New Year!
Very nice indeed!! Colours are beautiful together.. can I ask what house paint you use? Is it just a wall paint? How important is it to the finished piece? Thank you, Caroline
Thanks for showing your process! Beautiful piece. You mentioned that you had too much paint and I'm wondering if there was too much base initially or what do you think?
Wonderful look...it's terrible that we can't really see what you see...but this is nice!!!
Love your colour choices. Very inspiring. I’m def going to give the floating cup a try. Can I ask what the consistency of your paint was please. Thank you. 💕’
Gorgeous! May I ask, did you add anything to the paints that were in your cup?
Hello absolutely wonderful I would like to know what color you used for this canvas bravo bravo
The house paint you use is it what you put on the walls or what you paint wood doors etc with xx
It is a pity that you poured so many colors cause I loved the colors and composition
The collaboration worked so well..I see Animals and soap suds...how about you?
So beautiful, which kind of house paint you used please, thank you
The most beautiful?
Maybe.
Aww.. thank you..
You’re so daring to add the black shmears but it came out beautiful as always
Sometimes you just have to..
Watching very carefully how you get rid off the excess paint without losing the shape. ..ohhhhh noooo . Still cool. IT LOOKED like a steampunk seahourse. and his buddy. . typing while I watch it. How long can you walk away from the painting?
I would not wait longer than a half an hour..
Can you list the colors and the list of how the colors were poured?
What do you add to your colors. Water, Floetrol, Glue?
ATM I see a house
On the top the way it looks like the face of a turtle
Seahorses
Gorgeous!
Beautiful!
