I believe that is the most industrialized route you have filmed so far. Still very orderly and safe.
If you had continued on Schiedamseweg just a little bit further, you would have seen a giant statue of a fox.

A well known route for me. Next time come and visit me for a coffee. At 6:15, turn left and right. And indeed, it is not the most beautiful route in this neighbourhood. Riding along the Poldervaart is realy nice.

Very enjoyable ride! Thanks for sharing! - As someone that's interested in behaviors in this setting, it would be neat to have a rear-camera as well. Probably not a desired inclusion on your part but I'd thought I'd mention it.
I couldn't help notice at 15:41 a bit of what looks like railway track appears to the right of the cycle path and then seems to abruptly end at an embankment at 15:52. What's that there for? A left over from an old disused railway line maybe? Odd that it hasn't been lifted in that case - there's scrap value in the rails.
This used to be the port area of Rotterdam. Probably a left over from those times.

You are perfectly right; that railrway was used to transport goods from the harbor to the normal traintrack. Everything between 12:30 and 16:30 at the right from the camera was harbor-area. To be specific; the 'Fruit Wharf' or also called 'Merwe-haven' and was active in fruit logistics from 1925. Before that time the harbor was all farmland and needed to be dug out of the ground for all the massive ships.
That huge area (together with the 'Vierhavensgebied' (Four Harbors) and another harbor in Schiedam) will be transformed into residential-area the next 30 years because the modern active harbor of Rotterdam is set much closer to the North-sea. The last time I saw trains on that track was somewhere between 2005-2010, when round tunnel-parts needed to be transported for extending the Rotterdam's subway to the city of The Hague.
What kind of a camera set up do you use? It's very smooth. GoPro with a chest mount?
The beginning part of the video the trail looks similar to the one I use here in the US. Do you know the cost per kilometer to build and maintain the network of bike paths? Currently where I live is closer to the the weather Finland gets with temperature 🌡️ around -4 Celsius. The Netherlands has more mild temperatures?
In winter -4 Celsius is quite common in the Netherlands as well, especially in the south

1: that's metro station Vijfsluizen, not Vijfhuizen.
2: between 5:37 and 5:57 you drive over the Rubensplein, which is not well indicated on many maps

Ik ben van Vroesenpark Rotterdam naar de Parkweg Schiedam gefietst in het schooljaar 1971.
I miss Rotterdam so much but those scooter on the bike path ( 11:42 ) are just horrible... But im trading the montreal pseudo infrastructure with this anytime :P

12:23 Netherlands is so overflowing with bicycles that there are abandoned around.
Er is een mooie fietsroute te maken vanuit Moergestel (of Tilburg), via ‘t Stokske, Fransebaan, fietspad dwars door de Kampinaheide, linksaf richting NS spoorlijn, L langs dierencrematorium en zo door de Oisterwijkse bossen naar Oisterwijk en eventueel langs spoorlijn naar Tilburg.
The petrol scooter on the bike path thing is still such a weird outlier of stupidity in such a logical country. I really don’t get it.

Hello, motorbikes are allowed in the bicycle lane in Netherlands?
There's different classifications based on engine power, speed and some other stuff. The ones you refer to, I think, are more generally called mopeds or scooters.
They are a nuisance, but they can "only" go up to 25km/h or 45km/h, so they can't just be directed to 60km/h or 80km/h roads. It's something which municipalities are struggling with, rules are actively changing in a few cities.
tl;dr not full motor bikes, lawmakers are struggling with making them work well.
@@dykam Yeah scooters, in Catalan we say motos all the same only the plates are yellow with scooters; and it makes sense being a high speed road only the speed difference between a scooter at 45 and a bicycle av. speed at 15 is double compared to a car at 60, let's hope traffic safety engineers can figure that out ;)
@Jimmy McGill Yeah it impressed in this video, the narrow space, the mass and speed difference of a scooter, it increases the risk of accident where bicycles have the more loose; looks like a great disincentive for people to lose the fear and start riding bicycles.
@@IsaacRC I don't like those scooters on cycle paths either. But they won't deter people from starting to cycle here (everybody cycles, only children start) and I don't think they'll get people to stop biking.
@@arthurhagen3826 Sure, I'm looking from a Barcelona city perspective, here adult people fear getting on a bicycle and accidents are a big trauma makers.

I wonder why pedestrians don't get green light when cyclists do? Like in 4:45
What pedestrians? In the Netherlands lights only turn green when there is someone they should turn green for. Vehicles and people on bicycles are detected by induction loops (and you can also press the button when you feel like it when you cycle) pedestrians are mostly detected when they press the button or sometimes with infrared cameras. When there is no traffic for a certain part in the green cycle, those valuable seconds can go to another group of road users or the cycle is shortened to give other people green quicker.
