About what Chester went through as a kid…he openly spoke about being sexually abused from about 7-13 yo. It was a slightly older guy, if I remember correctly. Chester declined to press charges when he found out that he too was the victim of sexual abuse.
The boy was 15 when he was 7 if I remember correctly.
I was going to say it was a teenager that had been abused that abused him, Chester was an adolescent but his abuser being a victim and also a child predator screwed with his mind... he was the monster in his story but the victim (like Chester) in his own story.
And Chester's Dad was a detective who worked on child abuse cases...
It was actually his father.. 😞😔🤮
Correct, he also went to school and was heavily bullied by kids. Mostly because they thought he was gay. I think he said somewhere that he went through most of high school with close to no freinds
Chester and Chris are the two that.. every time I hear their voices, I feel it in my chest. It hurts. It’s bittersweet. They left us all this beautiful stuff... but they left. Hurts in my soul.
I really hope he reacts to Chris Cornell too 🙏
For me it's Chester and Kurt. I grew up to Linkin Park, but Kurt died when I was only 7, I didn't know about Nirvana existing for a long time, but I immediately felt a connection to him, carrying all that pain on your shoulders, I really relate to it, and I wish I could go back in time and just hug him, and absorb all of his aching. No one should hurt that badly.
@@0Onyx13 Kurt still makes me sad but I think it’s definitely different (for me) because I was much younger when he died. My husband has always been a huge Linkin Park fan and I’ve always been a fan of Chris Cornell’s voice, since I was a kid. I saw Chris live a week before he died. Their music has always played such a huge part of our lives, and their pain was definitely palpable.
❤❤❤
Chester suffered sexual abuse as a child... that trauma drove him to drugs & alcohol abuse as a teen & young man (The same trauma affected KoRn singer Jonathan Davis)
Chester got married young, had kids... but alcohol addiction (and likely infidelity) drove him to divorce and near financial ruin by 2005. And this was when Linkin Park was selling millions of records... they briefly split from their label, until they were brought back w/ a better contract.
He was reportedly doing better by 2015, happily married and had more kids... but addiction and alcoholism apparently kept coming back on repeat.
After Chris Cornell unexpectedly took his own life, Chester was devastated and we can only assume that he was tired & ashamed of the same cycle of abusing alcohol, over & over again in his life to numb his pain...
At some point in 2017, he had enough and ended his own life...
People have to realize that even w/ million$ in fortune, fame, recognition & family, he was still alone in his private misery & pain😪
Well said.
@Paul Ramos The record label probably had a guy for anything he might have wanted.
When innocence is ripped from you, it leaves holes you can’t fill unless you addressed it immediately and were shown you are still loved and wanted. If ignored.......
It leaves triggers you never can predict. Reactions you can’t control. Hatred, fright, ashamed, hollow, self-loathing, unbelievable pressure and paranoia. Violent outbursts. And it never goes away. You can’t escape you. You have to forgive yourself for being a victim. It wasn’t your fault.
Just saying. Not suggesting you were a victim. Just my choice of wording. 😇
Thank you for taking the time to learn about him and showing him respect. He meant alot to alot of people and will always be missed. Amazing artist with an amazing soul.
The Linkin Park song: 'Leave Out All the Rest' still brings me to tears, but explains so much about his end. Beautiful song & sums up how we should remember Chester. x
I love the song Leave out all the Rest, even if it was in Twilight. Its a very deep and emotional song! Miss Chester! 😇
It is a heart breaker.
Yes I want him to make a reaction on that one
@@Josh-Man the first verse on LOATR always brings me to tears
I'm tearing up just thinking about the song....that dang hook
I met this beautiful human being. He ACTUALLY sat down next to me and one to one spoke to around the subject of heartbreak, grief and the roads surrounding addiction. Solid man.
I became a LP fan after he died and so many LP soldiers have said this, that on meet and greets, he'd sit and listen and focus on the people, really connect. Thats just amazing from someone in his position.
I was just lucky to see Linkin park in concert
@@cherrygripe4961 The band as a whole never stopped thanking the fans for getting them where they were, never took us for granted, and all loved us deeply. But, Chester took that to a whole new level.
Thanks for playing!
is that chester in ur pfp??
I admire how empathetic you are, man. Every video I’ve seen of yours about Linkin Park, there’s always at least one quote from you that just rolls off the tongue and you might not even realize when you say it but I hear it and damn is it true. I appreciate your ability to take a step back and see something for what it is but nevertheless from your own eyes. Keep on learning, man ✌️
Every day I wish more people would be like this young man.
Agree with every word you said man, and thanks Jojo for doing this vid..
Yes, the way he articulates his thoughts and his empathy is truly admirable. His reaction to LP videos are really something else.
Thank you young man for looking deeper into the lyrics and music.
Chester’s mom split when he was like 11. He said he came home from school and she had moved out. His dad was a detective and worked long hours, so he was left to his own devices a lot of the time. At the same time, he was being molested by a family friend at home and bullied relentlessly at school. That went on for years and years. He was drinking and trying drugs by the time he was 12. It was frankly a miracle he survived to be 18.
The death of Chester Bennington was a devastating loss. Rest in peace Chester.
I suggest listening to Mike Shinoda's (bandmate) EP called "Post Traumatic EP". Consists of 3 heartbreaking songs he wrote while mourning Chester
Thank you for your reaction. Chester will live forever in our hearts. If you are interested in his first band Grey Daze, please listen to Soul Song♥️
She Shines >>>
Yesss, sometimes is amazing
Listen to the whole album!
The one-two punch in 2017 of losing Chris & then Chester is still painful today.
My views on suicide have completely changed since hearing Chester's story. There are other videos where he's talking about his mental issues and these are definitely worth watching. The One More Light Video is so sad yet inspiring. Leave out all the Rest is another great one. I wasn't a Linkin Park fan until recently and in my 50 something years on this earth I've never had another artist impact me like Chester. #Makechesterproud
Same...
I miss Chester so much. it's still unbelievable to me that he's not with us anymore.
"Cross Off" with Mark Morton was the last song he ever fully recorded if you want to give that a spin. It's metal. Lots of screaming/singing.
"One More Light" has over 200M views. The video is a montage of clips of Chester which portray his career with LP over the years with music over it. There's no rap in it, just singing. It's a lot gentler than most of their other stuff.
"Looking For an Answer" was made in memory of Chester by Mike Shinoda, and it was played once. He never released a studio version. It's a simple but beautiful piano song with just Mike's vocals.
Mike's other band is Fort Minor. His most famous song with it is probably "Remember the Name". I like "Welcome".
He also made "Over Again" (rap) which is about how he was dealing with Chester's passing and how going forward as an artist would be difficult. It's from his solo album, "Post Traumatic" (2018).
Lately, Mike's been streaming ~2 days per week on Twitch under the name OfficialMikeShinoda. He makes brand new jams every month, new art, plays games, and answers questions live. He was most recently credited for co-writing "Skin" by Kid Brunswick (July 30th, 2021).
The other band members have more or less been silent compared to him.
Also, the rap-rock/metal combo you were talking about is called nu metal.
Little fun fact: my older brother and sister were personal friends with Chester and his family. They went on vacations and stuff like that together
Thats awesome, did you go,what was like chester, what he liked what he was like,i think he was amazing as a person, good person good father good friend.♥️🙏
@@glitterworld3886 unfortunately, I never met him. But from what they’ve said he was an awesome guy and a joy to be around; even if you never knew him, you would enjoy your time with him
Hearing someone talk about his death, still hurts just as much today as it did when I first found out the news, it’s so incredibly sad, the world didn’t deserve Chester and I’m in debt to Chester for providing me with the strength to push through
You are such an empathetic sweet soul. Thank you so much for appreciating Chester Bennington. He was truly gifted and had a beautiful voice that has helped me and millions of others get thru tough times. Many blessings. 🙏💕
There is another video called-Depression explained perfectly by Chester Bennington. It's really sad. Sexual abuse is hard to come back from. Especially as a child, and you're so scared no one will believe you. Its torture. He was bullied at school during the same time. He was very open about his depression always. It's incredibly heartbreaking.
RIP Chester. Miss you so much.
With a brother like you, with so much perspective, I have a feeling you will always be watching over her ❤️❤️❤️ ***RIP CHESTER, YOU WILL BE FOREVER MISSED***
You should react to Chester and Chris Cornell singing Crawling or Hunger Strike together live
You seem a good hearted young man we need more humans like you.Great reaction.✌
Chester died. Tears didnt flow. But had it fallen, the pain would have been smoother and swifter. Still Remembering you Chester.
Im glad that you've discovered LP. Chester was truly a musical genius and speaks to the heart!
Now I feel it's appropriate to listen to "leave out all the rest". This song hits so differently after learning all of this.
Yes please do this song
The "One More Light" felt like a good bye album. Owning up to ones mistakes expressing pain. "Heavy" is a great song to hear. RIP Chester words aren't enough to express the loss felt
R.I.P, he definitely helped many with his music.
He struggled with severe depression. There are videos of him talking about how extremely difficult it was and that the most dangerous place for him to be was in his own head….. 😢
It’s really sad. They left out the part where Chester was sexually abused as a child.
When I found this out in 2017 I had just gotten out of work and I kept seeing rip Chester Bennington on my FB timeline. I kept looking up Chester Bennington death hoax. Scrolling researching hoping that it was a hoax.
His death was the first celebrity death that just hit me in the gut, soul, and heart. I couldn’t stop crying. After growing up with his music it was just unbelievable and heart wrenching. Anyways….
You gotta do “castle of glass” Jojo. 🙏 it’s my ultimate Favorite song of LP.
I felt the same. I never cryed over a musicans death, but this one hits me so hard. The moment i realized he was truly gone, i felt so sad for him, and felt like an emptynes coming over me...like i felt the world lost an important person, who never cant be replaced. Also i knowed that fans all over the world, felt the same at this moment, which shows how much of an impact this man had (and still has) on us. We love you Chester.
4:27 everyone's face when they heard THAT bit of info in that video, also yeah he had it rough, breaking the habit is the testament to it
He passed on my birthday i still remember that day clear as hell I felt so empty
Chester & Chris were best friends. You should check out the 2 of them singing Hunger Strike and Crawling together. Then watch Linkin Park sing One More Light live on Jimmy Kimmel honoring Chris Cornell. The words are so powerful and you can feel Chester's heartbreak. So sad. And then when you hear Given Up it just kicks you in the heart. Chris & Chester were working hard against human trafficking. Thank you so much for diving in deeper.
never be sorry for feeling empathy! RIP Chester, Chris, Lemmy, Dimebag and soooo many more...
Linkin park got me through my teen years while Chester’s other band, Dead by Sunrise got me through present things. His legendary hypnotic voice and lyrics will always echo in the ears and hearts of those who loved him and his music.
Legends like that never leave us, they live on in the music.
React from Hybrid Theory till One More Light.. also the remix albums of them.. then do Fort Minor (by Mike Shinoda) and Post Traumatic also by him which he made to cope with the death of Chester. Then also react to Grey Daze and Dead By Sunrise and then STP.. by Chester.
And after finishing all these (which will take a long long time), you can react to unreleased songs and demos and bonus tracks of Linkin Park.
Yes!
Love Chester❤❤
RIP to an absolute legend who’s music touched billions
Thank you Jojo for doing this video. Chester saved a lot of lives with his music its heartbreaking that nobody could save him 🥺💔 RIP Chester... I miss you 😔
He was sexually Abused by an older Guy Friend His Father Is A Detective of that He's Scared To Tell his dad Because He scared that His Dad Would Call Him Gay But He Deicided not To Pursue Or put Charges on his Friend When He Knew That his Friend Was Sexually abused To And he Gets Bullied Because Hes so Thin
Watching this i I hadn’t realized it’s been 4 years! It seems like it was just yesterday. Still so sad. He helped so many but he himself lost the battle. 💔
It is very sad, but his legacy lives on through the music. Creators like you help to keep his memory alive when you discover his music and introduce it to a new generation.
It says something that you were touched by the music and had the curiosity to look into the story behind the music. Chester is a sad story, which is why it's important to emphasize these stories and be aware of what the people around us are going through
You need to watch his celebration of life that the band did after… it’s amazing and it shows you just what kind of impact Chester made on people… I cried, my uncle and Aunty cried, and my friend cried because Chester and Linkin Park got all of us through our darkest times… I will forever be thankful for what the band his done for me and my family… RIP Chester Bennington… your light may have gone out but your soul will shine forever…
A couple quotes, paraphrased, from interviews with Chester "this brain between these ears, this is not a good neighborhood." and "The only way I've found to shut my demons up is to be on tour, it's when I'm most at peace"
He was such a strong individual. We lost a true warrior. Every single song is a therapy session for Chester and the rest of the band. Their songs and lyrics were so real, so raw, because they lived that pain. They were trying to use their music as an uplift for those who are in dark places. 'Hey, we've all been there. We made it, you can too'. A lot of people think their music is dark and promotes dark thoughts and suicide. Those people don't know their stories and don't truly listen to the words. Their songs are hopeful and positive.
Their songs have helped me get through some really bad shit. The break up of a 7 year relationship that ended with betrayal, which nearly saw me end my life. My sister-in-law dying before her time. My 12 year old niece committing suicide July 3rd, 2018. Those are a few, but the darkest I've ever been through.
Their music is so important, but so few people appreciate it, let alone listen to it.
Listen to "GREY DAZE" this is the first band of Chester Bennington ! his voice was the same shit he was very young so powerfull
Definitely do One More Light. He did a tribute to Chris Cornell which was amazing. There is also an official music video for that some
I still feel so much pain losing Chester as a hardcore Linkin Park fan. It still feels unreal to this day.
I hope Chester found the peace in death that he couldn't find in life. Chester love always
That's cool JoJo , appreciate you reaching to Chester and his problems ect ... I miss his tallent. Your empathy and compassion is felt through the Electronic Highway we all use on Utube. Thanks again man,. God Bless you.
Brother Gary
Genuine person Jojo thank you for the moment.. admirations from Marseille, France
They were both devastating losses to the families and fans. My heart still weeps for both of them. 😔 😢
He’s the reason I got into this kind of music. I miss looking forward to his music.
If you do Given Up, please do the aol live sessions version
You need to react to 'One More Light'. It's one of their most beautiful songs. It was written about the death of a close friend of theirs and released shortly before Chester's own death. The music video was created as a tribute to Chester and the song now has a whole new meaning for fans.
Have you seen his live performance of this song just a few days after Chris Cornell´s death? it blows y mind
Glad you found his music RIP him and Chris.
Rest in peace, dear Chester. YOU ARE MISSED!
One more light would be a perfect song to react to after this video.
Have you seen his live performance of this song just a few days after Chris Cornell´s death? its just beautliful
@@borism243 it’s heartbreaking. Chester hit me hard, but losing Chris Cornell was like losing a lifelong friend.
This man saved many lives. And it's our sorrow we couldn't save his
This story is a good reminder that if you're struggling with addiction or depression do the hardest thing you can in the world and ask for help! it's not a sign of weakness to ask for help it's a sign of tremendous strength! It's near impossible to recover alone. Even someone who helps so many people recover struggled to ask for help. Rest in peace Chester.
Thank you so much for diving into this JoJo, it really warms my heart to know that the next generation cares
I remember the day he passed. I didn't sleep for 2 days. Linkin Park was a huge part of my Junior and Senior year in high school. I still have a hole in my heart. You should watch the concert that Linkin Park did for Chester after he passed. I get choked up every time I watch.
My son is a big LP fan and thanx to him I am as well. When he went to Iraq I would sit in his room and listen to them. Chester was an amazing talent and human being. My son has his own band and plays in another one as well (223 and AHTCK) and he was down in L. A. at a restaurant and Chester walked in. My son said Hi and told him how much he liked LP and Chester grabbed my sons phone and took a selfie of them both. I love that photo. May Chester Rest In Peace. He is finally cured of his inner demons. I’m sure he is now playing his music for the ultimate audience.
You never know what anyone is going through at any particular time, it's always best to try to give the benefit of the doubt.... Linkin Park had a good run, they are missed. Chester is missed... So is his friend Chris Cornell, you should really react to him and his decades of work too, he's amazing in his way too.
Chester’s singing and music saved my life. I was going through abuse from the time I was 5 to 11, and listening to his music helped me through it all. I was suicidal in high school, and then I heard an interview where he was talking about fighting his own demons and not letting the negativity win and it pulled me out of that dark place. I am forever in debt to Chester and still feel sad that I never got the chance to tell him what he did for me. His death saddened me deeply and still hits me hard to this day. I actually got a tribute tattoo of him on my right leg. I miss this man so much!
I was so sad when Chester passed. Literally ruined my day and for like a week or 2 I only listened to LP. I’d love to see you react to “in pieces” it’s one of my favorites
You should check out Chester’s other band Dead By Sunrise, their song Let Down is very emotional. They were a great band as well.
Appreciate you bro. Really means a lot. There's been a constant whole in my heart since 4 years. It's so sad.
I miss him so much 🕊️
If chester wasn't pass always, 2019 will be have a new album, and this year's too, fuck I miss Linkin park songs so much, I grow up with them, and liked like all songs because like they said, linkin park wasnt just nu metal, was their our genre.
I think you would be really into Mike Shinoda’s solo music. He made an album called Post Traumatic that came out about a year after Chester’s death, dealing with his grief and the path back out of the darkness. It’s really raw and inspiring.
JoJo where you going in ALL those SHOES!? LOL I love all your reactions, especially to Chester.
You HAVE to do Linkin Park's cover of Rolling in the Deep. Its amazing. Chester f'n kills it.
If you see some stuff with Chester wearing sunglasses indoors. It's him bothered by his demons. You see people like that hate any real form of bright light. The song Points of Authority is about his abuse with lyrics like "taking pleasure in the awful things you put me through" and "you want someone to hurt like you".
Once you’ve gone through more of their catalogue, then check out the tribute concert they did after he passed. “Linkin Park and friends celebrate life in honor of Chester Bennington. You pry won’t be able to react to it because it’s 3 hours long. But it is so good.
It is beautiful that you are giving yourself the chance to switching it up to rock music and most of to one of the greatest band of all time LINKIN PARK unfortunately we lost one of the big ones of our time Chester Bennington will always be missed and remembered 😢❤️ also you should listen to breaking the habit would love to see your reaction to that video 🤘🏽
You should definitely checkout Chris Cornell's work too, he was super talented just like Chester. If you're kinda interested, there's a video here on youtube where Chris sings with Chester during a Linkin Park show. What an amazing opportunity... To be able to hear Chester and Chris live, I'm jealous.
You should listen to Mike Shinoda's album Post Traumatic. He wrote it after chester death and its all about coping with it and not knowing what to do. The song over again is very emotional.
Here’s a list of songs Chester did with Stone Temple Pilots from the EP High Rise...
Out of time, black heart, same on the inside, cry cry, and Tomorrow.
You can find out Live concerts with more songs (covers)
Thanks man for keep his memory alive, one od the bast singers of 21 century, when i found on internet that he commited suicide(almost 3 months after) my reaction was like yours, sadness, crying and anger...Linkin Park was huge part of my childhood.
This truly breaks my heart because it's so close to home. My Big Brother took his own life the same way as Chester in 2020 just before Halloween. Aaron was such a unique, caring, sensitive, talented and beautiful person inside and out. He meant the absolute world to me and it is so hard to even comprehend everything. Chester was such an amazing person with a heart of gold and I hope he is at peace, my Brother actually was the one to get me into Linkin Park when I was kid. It's why this has taken me this long to watch this video 💜💜 love your content my friend and hope everyone is well!
You should look into Mike Shinoda's song "Over Again". I'm pretty sure he said in an interview I saw a while back that it was written for Chester and how the rest of the band felt afterwards. Its on his "Post traumatic" album
One More Light was originally a tribute to Chester’s best friend Chris Cornnel, who took his life 6 months before Chester did, it still hurts me, his music and messages got me through a lot.
Btw, it may have “brought only one tear to your eye, just one tear”, but dude….the sadness is written all over face. It’s a gut punch…and we’ve felt it too.
JoJo thank you for doing this reaction I never even seen this one and I had no idea that he was on all that stuff I could not imagine! Thank you for sharing this!
To the public who enjoy what you do it's your talent that's immediately evident, but to get a glimpse at the depth you've shown here is a beautiful thing.
A job well done to your parents because character such as yours can only be the result of the best in role models 👊
Honestly I salute you for wanting to learn about such an amazing person to do many of us !! I've been a fan for a very long time and I read it in his lyrics that he had demons that were tearing at him inside !! He sang about it and wrote about it and sought help for it and had lots of people on his side but in the end it wasn't enough and I got one will never forget his devotion to us his fans !! I'm glad you are getting to know about him JoJo 👍 Be safe and healthy and enjoy the music 🎶
They were like family. Chester was The Godfather to Chris children. 🙏
I was in my car with my asst manager when I found out. I almost hurt us both. That's what this man meant to people. Thank you for keeping his music alive with the younger generation.
You are a remarkable young man. Thank you for honouring our hero ♡
I gotta tell ya, losing Chris Cornell & then Chester on Chris's birthday the same year, was pretty heartbreaking. I get choked up when I hear either of them nowadays. Chris Cornell's cover of Patience by Gn'R kills me!
You’re such a beautiful soul. Your vulnerability is so powerful. ❤️ I cried when he died. I’m not usually that impacted by celebrity deaths, but some of them really get me.
;
I was in court last week and dude had on the same "Poetic Justice" joint, you got on. That movie came out in like 93. Saw it in the Sycamore Theater on Bragg Blvd. In Fayetteville NC. RIP Pac
I'm so sorry for your loss, baby.
Mike Shinoda was one of the main forces behind the group and still works producing music. He streams a lot on Twitch while he works on stuff. It might be worth your time checking out.
If you feel up to it/have managed to work your way through the set list, I recommend the tribute concert they put on for him. IIt runs the full gamut of emotion; from opening with "Numb" and an empty microphone (the crowd fills in for Chester) to the clips of behind the scenes stuff they show of Chester being a talented goofball.
Jojo it’s okay that you don’t understand what he was going through, that means you have been loved and cherished and that is nothing to be ashamed of. Go hug your family as they obviously love you. ❤️
You have a great heart kid, don’t ever change. There are a few great bands who have lost a frontman due to demons. Check out chris cornells bands(audioslave and sound garden). Also alice in chains…lead singer lane staley died of drug overdose. Lastly, the lead singer of korn (jonathan davis) went through the same abuse as chester but has won the battle so far and still rocks out.
On July 20th 2017 the day it all came out I was at Vans Warped Tour and it hit everyone at the same time. The atmosphere was noticeably changed, it was cool all of the bands there had something to say and some did covers. Sad day though
It makes me cry too man. No cap. his life mirrors so many aspects of mine that no other artist has ever resonated as beautifully with
I went through a lot of the same things Chester went through.. Minus the fame and being a singer.. it really messes up the head for the rest of your life.. I'm now 43 and still it haunts me. I also have severe depression and anxiety, and it runs in the family. My Dad took his life this past June. R.I.P. Chester and my Dad.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and what you've had to make it through. And I genuine wish you the best, you're an amazing survivor.
check full HYBRID THEORY album their all songs are amazing 🔥
He was also touched when he was a child can't believe 😔 he's gone RIP 😔
Mental health illnesses never go away man, it’s scary RIPCHESTER
His death has deeply affected me. I still cannot hear their songs without crying my heart out. I miss him a lot and i cannot imagine how his wife and children miss him. Their songs have helped me too as suicide survivor and a victim of sexual molestation as child... His death broke my heart and I clearly remember that day. I was scheduled to have some bloodwork done and left my home very early without looking any news. I found out while i was waiting for the tech to call me in and i almost passed out.
