    Its easy, just stop giving us brokers super high bs rates. I hang up on drivers now. No way you will get 5 bucks a mile out of Denver or FL... Here's a good tip if you want make more money and get those high rates. Don't book your load first thing in the morning. (this depends on where you are. If I was in NJ I would do this, also this is for reefers, Dry vans might work) wait till the evening and post your truck on dat ect... Now just wait for the calls from the desperate brokers. then rip their heads off. I've paid as high as 7 bucks a mile from NJ to FL. You have to be ready to pick the load asap and don't mess up at all or they will fine you. other than that, you will make a ton. This works in many areas in the us. Also ALWAYS post your truck on the boards... Again ALWAYS post your Truck on the boards... If they call you, you make way more money. It means the broker is desperate. Also DAT estimator is not very good right now. Truckstop is better for rates. I think it is more on point.

    Great video! I'm only 6months into negotiating self dispatching and this has been my problem so far with brokers, being lowballed. Some of these brokers try pushing a rate $500+ to $1000+ under the spot rate. I know the 7day and 15day spot rate and when I bring that to their attention they either tell me "I can't pay that much" or "oh, that was last week's rate". Who's fooling who here? I'm far from greedy but when I spend more in fuel compared to profit it sure looks like I'm the fool taken to the cleaner. My truck averages 7 - 8.5mpg consistently. I need to be educated in negotiating.

    • @starcardave339
      @starcardave339  3 года назад

      The DAT load board offers 30 day and 15 day averages based on the level of service you pay for. This average will be from state to state or zip to zip, again based on how much you are willing to pay.
      The truckstop load board also does this.

    Thats good advice however I don’t agree with accepting cheap loads to get higher paying loads, if a lane is no good ex loads going into New England may pay well but the rates coming out are ridiculous I just couldn’t do it to the point I don’t service New England at all, I feel if there’s enough truckers who do what I do in certain lanes, the Law of Supply and Demand will make rates rise to acceptable levels. I use Supply & Demand exclusively however there are truckers like yourself who say hey I need a load out of here at any cost to get me back in a higher paying lane, well how about other carriers who are doing what your doing in those lanes, rates will drop and the cycle continues, DAT has a feature that show how many loads are available with in your area, that’s one way, call brokers asking the questions you said works to, how long has that load been posted and available also is another as well as when it gotta go, its nerve wrecking what I do waiting for the last min to book one of my trucks but the rates go way up when “it$ gotta go” Supply & Demand, unless there’s guys saying “ I’ll do it “ cause I need a load out of here!” Creates cheap rates.

    • @starcardave339
      @starcardave339  5 лет назад

      Carlos Martinez supply and demand causes cheap rates. The cheapest rate is to not haul cheap and haul nothing. Not servicing the Northeast is certainly an option. I prefer not to go to Florida.
      I don’t care what other people are doing. If I’m getting paid extremely well in one lane, I’ll take what I can get, and get out quickly. The load board scrubbers can keep doing what they do, and go out of business hauling cheap in both directions.

    • @starcardave339
      @starcardave339  5 лет назад +1

      Timmi Ryan I don’t remember. Husqvarna I thought were chain saws.
      I ask for more than what The lane average is, and some times I’ll take less than the average. Every negotiation is different. If I have to take care of a prior booked,
      High revenue load, I might take less to get to it for the right load that unloads quickly and not too far away.
      It all depends.
      Thanks for commenting.

    I know this driver, he did everything he was supposed to, maybe he left for a better opportunity, you and kenny are not the end all be all of trucking, if you and kenny would have let him do his job maybe he would have succeeded, he is a damn good driver and will do good in his next venture, something he is more familiar with. Remember Astroglider Dave you could be next.

    • @starcardave339
      @starcardave339  6 лет назад +2

      Gerald Howland I spoke with the driver today. I understand where he is coming from. Negotiations is not for everyone. He had plenty of problems with his truck selection to begin with. Patriot Star has no say in how you elect to run your business unless it begins to affect theirs. An example where Patriot might say something is if a broker has been extended too much credit, or a broker isn’t creditworthy. Patriot Star may require that load be run COD or not be pulled at all.
      I certainly had no say in the driver’s business so I’m not sure why you lumped me in. I think certain things this driver talked about will be addressed. I know this driver learned a lot about himself and about running a business at the next level if and when he is ready.
      I’m not sure why you are hating on me.
