@@SonyCamry Zachariah from Electric Fields is both Aboriginal and gay. And also if by Asians you mean Dami, she was fantastic and should have won in 2016. There is nothing wrong with showing off Australia's multiculturalism and diversity.
Australia sent Guy Sebastion because he’s good and because he’s well known, Dami Im because she’s a great singer, Isaiah because he won X Factor, Jessica Mauboy because she performed in 2014, and Kate Miller because she won The nationals
As an Aussie, I have been waiting for this video! I really want Electric Fields to go to ESC. I think they have an incredible song, and the representation of Aboriginal Australia in this way would be amazing. However, I do think Kate will probably have a better chance to strike big at Eurovision, and it is my second favourite personally. I do like Sheppard, too, but this song is a tiny bit disappointing when compared with some of their other big hits tbh. I think one of these three will likely take the cake, but how they perform on Saturday night will be the determining factor for me. I'm flying up from Melbourne to be there, and I can't wait!
I liked Leah and Sheppard the best - the latter's song had Eurovision written all over it and would have done very well and prefer something uplifting and positive. I'm not getting the fuss over Electric Fields and I don't think it would be well received or understood at Euro. Re: Kate's song - well, what to say ... deeply disliked at first but it's growing on me but doesn't have broad appeal .. see what happens.
I can't believe how high the standard of these Australian hopefuls is this year. Although I live in Australia I am English so naturally for me I support Australia & The UK before anyone else but you guys really put the UK's entrants to shame. Every one of these entries could do well. The UK used to be horrified if it wasn't Top 3 , these days we celebrate not coming last. With the standard this high I really think Australia has a great chance of hitting the jackpot , let's face it , it's only a matter of time. Good Luck Australia & Choose Carefully.
I think 2000 and whatever is about how millennials are underestimated, just like how Marilyn Monroe was in her day; she was not an attention seeking dumb blonde, but was in reality "a smart blonde with eyes of a panther" (i.e. focused and strong). Millennials have something to offer the world! My votes are going to whoever brings it the best out of Electric Fields and KMH!
Damn, I wish Australians would speak about our nation's history as well as William did! So pumped by our choices. Can't wait to see how they all present on stage, it should be a good even playing field to judge beyond the varied recording budgets we have to judge the songs on now. Secretly still hoping Courtney Act can pull off some killer staging and performance.
The winner must be Electric Fields or Kate. No one else has a chance at winning Eurovision. My Top 10 is: 1. 2000 & Whatever - Electric Fields 2. Fight for Love - Courtney Act 3. This is Not the End - Mark Vincent 4. Set Me Free - Leea Nanos 5. Zero Gravity - Kate Miller-Heidke 6. Dust -Ayden 7. On My Way - Sheppard 8. To Myself - Alfie Arcuri 9. Piece of Me - Tania Doko 10. Data Dust - Alla Hooper
G'day Australia from Indonesia. I really love your national selection this year, with lots of strong contenders (only Albania's and Ukraine's are the other selections like this). Personally I'm rooting for Electric Fields or Kate Miller-Heidke to represent Australia! These two entries are something else and especially Electric Fields' experimental tune and inclusion of indigenous language. Also, looking forward to Eurovision Asia Song Contest ^^
The audience for this show will be a little different from most NFs - a much higher percentage will be genuine Eurovision tragics (tragics is an Aussie term for those with a not-so-mild, but not overwhelming, obsession) like us than in most European NFs. Add in SBS's demographics (slightly older, distinctly less white, broadly more left wing) and I think the televote will be a lot closer than in France, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a song other than On My Way win it. It's the most likely, but certainly less obviously the popular vote winner before the show than some others have been and will be this year. In my view this is a good thing cos we need to send something distinctive and different to be considered by the European public - only one of the last five winners hasn't been musically unusual in some regard, and it at least Heroes had novel staging. You need a point of difference to win and Australia has a built in advantage there by being a bit different, a bit mysterious, a bit bizarre in the European mind. It's time to engage with that, and to send that kind of song to Eurovision.
Well done Australia, you have one of the strongest national finals! My top3 are: 3. Fight for Love by Courtney Act (we all love some fast food music!) 2. Zero Gravity by Katie Miller Heidke (i like the operatic element with modern sound) 1. 2000 and Whatever by Electric Fields (mind-blowing, top5 material)
Zero Gravity is a fantastic song, she can sing & slay it, no problem there but however the fear is people in Europe watching on the grand final night wont get to see it 3-4 times, they will only see it once & they will think " ehhh La Forza like last year, who's next?". Electric Fields is also fantastic and can sing live, the juries will remember that its the UN national year of Indigenous language and this band has brought indigenous language to Eurovison for the first time ever but the fear is that they cant change from studio version to a "WOW" live version with out looking lost or silly on stage. It will be an interesting night come Saturday..almost a mini Eurovision in itself..
1 2.000 and whatever 2 Zero Gravity 3 On my way But it must be 2.000 and whatever!!! It´s such an amazing track and I love it so much! Go australia ! Go electric fields !
The fun thing about all of this is that as someone who lives in the same hemisphere as Australia (here in the Philippines to be exact), I can finally get to watch a Eurovision national selection without having the need to wake so early in the morning (but I probably am gonna have to wake up early for You Decide in the UK). If I recall my old viewing habits back when I used to tune in for Big Brother Australia live streams, Australia Decides should happen around 6:30pm in my local timezone. So yey for me!
So far from reading the comments, everyone’s been wanting Electric Fields... C'mon Aussies! Let's give the people what they want! Love from Sydney, Australia! 😁❤️🇦🇺
My top 3 would be 1. Kate Miller-Heidke 2. Electric Fields 3. Leea Nanos I like most of the songs here, but they just don't stand out in any way to me. I agree that Sheppard are probably going to win the vote. I'm a fan of Ella Hooper, but compared to her recent music, Data Dust comes across almost as if it was just thrown together for the sake of having an entry, so while I was planning to barrack for her, I just can't. Kate is an absolute legend, an hour on RUclips could convince anyone of that, but she has been off the scene for a while writing for musicals and starting a family (which is apparently the inspiration for Zero gravity), Electric Fields are brilliant, but not that widely known, Leea just hasn't been around very long, whereas Sheppard were in the charts and at the festivals recently and they had a very wide ranging audience, so they will have the most active fanbase.
Great job, Australia! There are at least 3 entries in this selection that could perform extremely well in Eurovision. My favourite is Sheppard, fantastic pop song!
Good analysis, especially about KMH and Sheppard. I believe the jury will be contemptuous of Sheppard and vote it as low as fifth and that will mitigate the expected high televote from their fans. Whereas KMH will appeal highly to both - as long as she presents and sings well. The best story would be Leea Nanos. Just 16 years old and has a great song.
So good to hear your guys thoughts. I am totally torn between both Kate Miller Heidke and Electric Fields. Love both of them, but think my vote will be for Kate.
I’m already in the Gold Coast after flying in from Sydney three days ago, but I’m here for a different reason (I mean, unfortunately I cannot attend the event, but I will watch it on TV), that is, I am here for a amusement attractions and a family holiday...
7 or 8 of these songs from Australia could outright win so many national finals happening in Europe. We need Electric Fields though, if not them Sheppard or Kate will do well. I have a soft spot for Alfie, wouldn't mind him going if he can transform it live (IE. Eugent).
The Top 3 will be 2000 and Whatever, On My Way and Zero Gravity in whatever order. But Australia will either vote through either Electric Fields because it's culture and cool mixed together or Sheppard because they're well known, the song's good and it's been in the iTunes Australia Top 10 since it was released which means it will get lots of radio play leading right into the final. Right now my own vote is with Electric Fields but that might change after I see the staging and performance. You could create amazing staging to both Electric Fields and Kate Miller Heike for Eurovision.
Dear Australia, as you can see everywhere around you, Electric Fields are just the best option. Although you in Australia sometimes prefer Zero Gravity or On My Way. Simply, if you send Electric Fields, you'll get my vote and probably a lot more votes and if you send anything else, you won't get my vote, I will be very disappointed and you'll loose a lot of chances for a good result. Then I would be hoping for Kazka as the last act to save the contest. Good luck Australia and choose Electric Fields !
oh this video was so fun to watch! I'm really glad Australia's NF is so diverse, respect for them for that and a pity I can't watch the show live Courtney Act is my sure favourite and I hope she surprise wins, but Electric Fields are amazing too and I'd be happy with Sheppard going as well
Absolutely same thoughts here, including the love for Sheppard and Kate Miller-Heidke. I don't get the hype, but maybe because I don't like the instrumentals it doesn't have the same effect for me as it has for others. I don't know.
Kate Miller-Heidke is my number one too, I bought an album of hers years ago and I loved her back then, so I was so happy when I heard she was in Australia's selection
1. Electric Fields - no question! Their song is so strong, they embody Australian culture & diversity in many ways & I think they will connect with European ESC voters. 2. Ella Hooper - personal fan, gave an amazing performance & always has the gift of stage presence, catchy song. I think she will connect too but perhaps maybe only appeal to rock fans. 3. Kate Miller Heidke - can't deny her song is powerful & her staging is incredible
Oh, darn it! The 2 Australians have Electric Fields as their number 2 😭😭😭. Guys, please tell me you won't vote on Saturday! (like that's going to happen....). I NEED '2000 and whatever' in Eurovision!!! Australia, heeeeeeeelp!!!! :)
I'm so glad that there is a lot of support for Electric Fields! I really want them to win! Kate Miller Heidke and Leea Nanos would be my 2nd and 3rd choices respectively.
I think it's between Sheppard, Kate and Electric Fields as you guys pointed out in the video, and what's the deciding factor might be the staging because the staging last year completely ruined the aussies chances. There's top five material here though!
Its on at 3:30 am here in texas...boy thatll be rough. Top 3 is Electric Fields, Aydan, and Courtney Act. Those songs have me feeling good and give me a strong connection
Not sure how you would be making choices until you see the acts perform live. So many songs don't cut it on a live stage and we all know ESC songs do well due to the presentation more than the music. If there is a quirky song or quirky/hot singer in a quirky / hot outfit chances of success increase. Speculating before u see this, I feel, is a waste of time.
2000 and Whatever is the only 1 that’s something I haven’t heard before and it’s probably Australia’s best choice. Slay!!! Done 👏👏 also Zero Gravity is like a complete mess! What is it?? A few songs that we’ve put together as one just made 3 mins of a car crash. Oh no!
We need to send Electric Fields. Kate and Sheppard are also great but Electric Fields goes there and beyond. We need to take the risk.
I agree. I'm sick of sending politcally correct people e.g. asians, aboriginal singers, gays, young groups. Why cant we just send the best song.
