Livre d'orgue ("Organ book") is a work for organ by the French composer Olivier Messiaen, composed in 1951-52. A major work of Messiaen, its place in Messiaen's output can be compared to that of Bach's The Art of Fugue.

I once played "Chants d'oiseaux" as an Easter prelude! So beautiful!
I performed No. III "Les mains de l'abîme" (The hands of the abyss) once in recital. The opening chord frightened people. The middle section reminded one family member of a tugboat ride in their youth. It proved to be a good diversion.
I can't imagine performing all of Livre d'orgue in recital. As they say, "a little goes a long way" and "it's for the birds."
Encore un bel exemple de la fumisterie de la musique "contemporaine"... ça me rappelle quand je mets mon chat sur les clavier!
Astonishing piece. Possibly Messiaen's most radical piece (?). Alive with tidal waves of extraordinary invention. Marvellous performance and upload for which many thanks.

i love the organ pedal chord at the end.
So beautiful and fluid. The birds songs on the organ are so nice ❤️❤️
