You're not allowed to apply for asylum from outside of the UK.
It's international law to allow someone the chance to claim asylum.
Until their claim is processed, they are illegal, whether they qualify or not. They are not allowed to work.
Once their claim is processed, they can be deported if they don't qualify, or are allowed to stay if they qualify.
The gov't slashed the number (/budget) of claims processors.
    This created a backlog.
Having a high number of technically illegal asylum seekers (in hotels), riles up many in their voter base.
If the gov't wanted the number of Asylum Seekers down (and get people out of hotels), then they would've spent their Rwanda money (and hotel money), on processing the claims.
Once processed, they can deport anyone who doesn't qualify, and allow anyone who does the right to stay and work.
No need for Rwanda, no need for hotels, no need for prison barges.
But they gov't doesn't want the number to decrease. They want it to remain high, to anger their voters, so they continue to vote.
Rwanda wouldn't help the backlog. It would be expensive and slow. They know this. It's just performative cruelty. They want to be seen to be doing something, without actually fixing it.
The gov't invents a problem. They make it worse in a way NO ONE wants. They use it as an endless distraction to rile up voters. They propose expensive, cruel solutions, that won't actually fix the problem. Just so they can look like they're doing something

Wrong on 1 bit "Until their claim is processed, they are illegal, whether they qualify or not".
From the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
There is no such thing as a bogus asylum-seeker or an illegal asylum-seeker. As an asylum-seeker, a person has entered into a legal process of refugee status determination. Everybody has a right to seek asylum in another country. People who don't qualify for protection as refugees will not receive refugee status and may be deported, but just because someone doesn't receive refugee status doesn't mean they are a bogus asylum-seeker.

    • @ILikedGooglePlus
      @ILikedGooglePlus 9 месяцев назад

@@maximushaughton2404 Yeah yeah, I think we agree. I didn't word it perfectly, the illegality was more referring to how they arrived. Once their claim is being processed, then they're not illegal (correct?), but I think the gov't (/a lot of media) is being intentionally vague to further the con
Also, I'd originally written it to try to persuade someone who wanted to accept the legit refugees and just hurry up and deport "the chancers". I was kinda throwing him the smallest possible bone, and didn't want to come across as too argumentative (/ "umm actually...") because I don't think that persuades people.
This was the issue that I've had the most success in persuading (ex)Tory voters, many of whom didn't know that you had to come here first to apply for asylum, you can't apply from abroad, nor that the gov't slashed the processing budget. And whom also agree that paying to fly a few hundred to Rwanda to be processed is nonsense. They didn't know that if they were granted refugee status, they would remain in Rwanda, not be brought back here. They agreed that putting asylum seekers in a prison barge in the bay of a seaside tourist destination is... fucking awful, and doesn't even make a dent in it.
Showing them all this clearly - non-argumentatively - has gotten me breakthroughs I'd never had before

I’m not clear on this governments cruel and non-sensical laws. But of all asylum seekers were illegal would they just be arrested by the police? I’m guessing they aren’t because they are technically illegal until their claim is rejected?

    • @ILikedGooglePlus
      @ILikedGooglePlus 9 месяцев назад

@@oystercatcher943 It's like a purposeful legal grey area. They technically came here illegally, but international law says we have to allow them to remain if we are processing their Asylum claim. So like, they can't be arrested for being here
That's my understanding of it, I'm not a lawyer or expert ofc

Some wrong wording aside I absolutely agree and have been saying this to the rabid right wingers frothing at the mouth for years.
These people typically dont want to be on benefits and are forced to not be able to integrate by making them wait 2+ years to process a claim whilst they cannot legally work or study.
The thing to focus on is the absurdly slow home office rather than Rwanda etc. Get that running smooth and open legal corridors.
The ones frothing at the mouth dont care though, this is a conflation of their racism, they dont care if a refugee is in danger or not.
I also have an annecdote about how shite the home office is which should enrage the rabid mob.
Whilst working in the NHS, about 10 years ago we have a lady on the long term recovery ward for stroke, she was not legally allowed in the UK. Of course she got medical care cause we arent monsters but now she was more stable we needed to discharge her but had no-where to send her. Now she herself wanted to go back to her country so should be easy.
We called the home office every day for weeks trying to get help, they didnt give a shit about the thousands it was costing the hospital.
Eventually the Consultant took matters into her own hands and privately bought a ticket.
She was likely more effective than the entire home office during that period.

Its not mind blowing at all.
Starmer knows all too well how insidious and slimy the internal plotting was to defame and discredit Corbyn was because he supported Israel.
He fears all those hateful malicious zionists who have disproportionate power and knows they’ll start a vendetta against him too.
The man is desperate for power, at any cost, thats why he’ll abandon any left wing ideals and now he’d walk past piles of dead Palestinian children and keep quiet.
Its utterly disquisting. The Zionism fractured the Labour party and arguably Corbyn could have won in 2017 had his own party been trying to make him lose and our state now could be radically different, for the better.
Its apalling our politics got to this.
Obligatory caveat, I have no issue with peace loving Jews. I despise Zionists who accuse you of such for criticizing the IDF for bombing kids and destroy careers over it.

Can I just say, Theresa May openly said in a speech “ regardless of the EU referendum, my view is this: if we want to reform human rights laws in this country, it isn’t the EU we should leave but the ECHR and the jurisdiction of its court” with regards to us being unable to deport people. And I’m repeatedly told, though I’ve never seen it, that she is a more moderate conservative. So I would be shocked if this whole thing wasn’t set up from the start to try and make people want to vote away their human rights.

Correct, if testing the law is aimed at improving the situation and conditions for the greater good, then that is a good thing, however if as you say, it’s to evade or bypass the consequences for one’s own good, or not for the greater good. The courts explained the reason for denial was the safety and stability of the destination, in this case Rwanda that in the words of our own civil service is that isn’t safe. As Harriet Harmon stated when Johnson tried to state he was relying on advice regarding the regulations of Covid and brilliantly interjected with this analogy.
If I am travelling in a car and it’s stated that we are travelling at 80Mph and I glance over at the speedometer that reads 100mph the statement is irrelevant, we are still travelling at 100mph, I’m paraphrasing, however there are several points here that are being made and they have just been used in the Trump case and Steve Bannon also.
There is a responsibility on each of us to use our own judgment on matters, but also to at a later date use the excuse that you asked a question, knowing what the truth was, as the answers where in front of you.
This is like a parent after their child or loved one has perished in the icy waters, uses as their excuse, well I asked! Wife, Husband, Friend, Father, Cousin, or whoever and they said it would be safe to walk on!
Then expect everyone to say, oh that’s ok then, reflating to this scenario, if using and bypassing a judgement by means that are questionable even irresponsible as to the greater evidence before you, is not only wrong, it is criminal and shows a complete disrespect for the judgement of better informed professionals.
So should Sunak decide to continue down the route you are suggesting he is heading, now is the time to play the trump card, this being that he is informed that should he do this and the worse case scenario should occur, he will be held responsible!
I don’t know wether Johnson was informed of that when he used or tried to use the law, but if he was and did, then I would say he needs to be sued and taken to court on that matter.
I don’t believe or accept your premise that he’s clever and apply the same to Johnson. He has like Trump and the petulant child. All three would ask or demand, ok find me a loophole or is there a way around this judgement!
So firstly it is not an emergency and can’t be classed as one because by the statements made by Cleverly and Sunak himself yesterday, both in parliament and Sunak in that press conference, we have achieved our aim as the numbers are down by a third etc, etc, you can claim an emergency at the beginning and or shortly after, if the situation is worsening or your loosing control, ie circumstances are being overtaken by the situation.
This can’t be argued at all as it isn’t novel, it’s a situation that has been around for years and has got worse because of incompetence by this government, but more importantly, the end result of bypassing the courts through invoking this act, would not significantly improve the situation, like diverting a water leak, if the main cause isn’t fixed, you are merely reducing a torrent to fast flowing situation. So I would say that the public and others will just see this as another or further waste of money and time. Sunak and the other two are not intelligent or clever or the things you claim they are, they are dictators, spoilt narcissists all corrupt individuals who are used to getting their way, it’s proven in every case, Johnson and Trump so many examples Sunak many, Child care, he was found guilty of introducing in the budge, that his wife Benefited if it’s from, The clip of him telling a group of Conservatives he had diverted funds, the failure to vote on Johnson after it was proven he had lied to parliament, stating he couldn’t because he was at a gathering p, it was pointed out by Chris Bryant that several people from the same gathering left after him and made the vote, the failure to comment on said decision on Johnson, stating he was tied up, busy, again pointed out he had time to comment on a cricket event that was reported on, his failure to attend PMQs three times in succession, the supporting of Johnson, until it was obvious so many had resigned he could benefit from this, the state, ents he makes never answer the question, the repeated aggression in interviews when again he doesn’t answer the question, but does a party political and won’t stop, with comments like, no,no,no I must say this,no I must insist. The failings in reality of every single one of his five pledges, the trip to India? Even the media were ask in why, well when he returned, no details of the trade discussed, and when asked, still none, yet Cameron first visit India, the trade will put billions in his father in laws ex business that he still has a very large amount of shares in, the same as the granting of Oil licences, U.K. has no benefit as we pay the market value as others, however, what do you know, shortly after the granting, his father in laws old company invest £1.5 Billion in BP! The loss of the Covid WhatsApp messages, similar to Johnson, Sunak and I quote “ I’ve had many phones since Covid period” well that’s ok, however the rules state all phones and contents are the property of the state, and the phones or content should be headed over or collected when changing job position or on leaving, so, oh dam that didn’t work, err. Ah found them, Great! Well the period, the most important period in covid when all other issues in the enquiry are proving problematic for Johnson and others through diary is written statements of civil servants, well what do you know, those messages are missing, MISSING!!!!! I rest my case with this foot note.
There will be no accountability, when the investigation proves that these vermin and I mean vermin, are shown to have lied, cheated and financially or personally gained or evaded criticism etc by using there position, which is fraud and perverting the law. They like Johnson will walk away and live the life of luxury off the backs of those who supported them, without even a thought of regret. Johnson as Sunak flys everywhere, Johnson whilst hosting and attending the Glasgow Climate summit mid summit flew back to London for a free meal with his protection group ate, didn’t contribute a single penny to the cost and it was not supposed to be a free meal, but his protection group also ate and then after drinks etc flew back to the climate summit! Really! I could go on as there are so many, but the biased press as in USA and Fox News owned by the Disgusting Murdoch! Who is being sued! and 85% of Americans watch, is so biased and corrupt, Watch Tyler Cohen channel and The Midas Touch both have honest truthful presenters with legal backgrounds in fact Michael Popok still practices and has done for 32 years. A quick way to diminish our geopolitical heft, with resultant economic and political weakening.
