Chandramukhi. I remember watching Devdas and being instantly mesmerized by her character. She was inspired by Meerabai, who committed her life to Lord Krishna, just like she did to Devdas. While everyone pitied Paro- who was forcibly married into an affluent aristocratic family, caged in the lavish mansion- far away from her childhood dear, I was drawn further by Chandramukhi's enchantingly melancholic persona - "ek tawaif jogan ban gayi" ( "a courtesan became a devotee"). For the girl who was 'used' for her body all her life in the bustling brothel, she was strikingly tethered to her spirit. But when Devdas entered, all bondage of hers was demolished and she finally felt free, only for her to miserably realize that she was just a distraction for Devdas, who loved and shall only ever love Paro. Someone like her was never meant to be truly cared for. She accepted it all nevertheless, just like she always had. And she still loved Dev, perhaps she had understood that some things never turn out the way we want them to, but when has that ever stopped us from falling? Her only fault that she did so while having been born 'lowly'. On one day like this, Paro confronted Chandramukhi. Instead of reaping jealousy, she regarded Paro as a kind of Goddess who had the privilege of being showered Devdas's affection, so she bent to touch Paro's feet in deference. And what did Paro do in return? Mock Chandramukhi's circumstances and taunt her for coming close to Dev - before complying to befriend her, later on. Chandramukhi had dealt humiliation throughout but she had chosen to suffer the most by Dev's anguish- seeing her love ruined by his love. Paro and Devdas were eternally each other's souls, but there was no one to make unsung Chandramukhi whole. Paro and Devdas may have ended in tragedy to make us all weep, but Chandramukhi lived her broken tale that our hearts were too heavy to keep...
I just want to take a moment and say both of them held their own in this scene meaning each of them captivated me in a completely different aspect. Madhuri will always be the Queen & she knows it. But so does Aish so to see both of them on screen (for me) is iconic. Such a powerful scene cuz even without captions.

This is ofcourse one of the most perfect scenes, you can easily see the expression of madhuri ( since she is a diva) but if you pay attention so keenly you can see 2 different streams of emotions 1) Chandramukhi's emotions were full of pain and humiliation, the circumstances of her life made her so strong undoubtedly. Her pure love towards dev and everything were perfectly expressed by madhuri 2) while Parvathi was so stern here.because she was going to meet the girl who has equal amount of pure love towards dev as if like paro has, in a brothel area.hence she was buring with anger inside that was perfectly expressed by aish I think most of the people noted the first emotion while many missed the second
No disrespect to Aishwarya but most people missed the "second stream of emotions" because it was not delivered as deeply and honestly as the first one.
