The one issue I can see with this sort of tool is that plenty of gaps can be somewhat elastic or bendy, where you can fairly easily force them wider by trying to measure with a wedge-shaped thing unless you're _very_ careful - whereas a uniform thickness gauge would likely just not fit the gap if it's larger than it.
You forgot to add inthe 2/1000s to account for the angular distortion caused by the radious depletion on the cricuform one 😅😅. My dad told me that one, 8😅😅😅
I thought I was the only one with a bunch of vintage Starrett stuff 😃 Don't have a No. 270 . I really didn't start collecting that stuff until I had to clean out a relatives estate and just couldn't see that kind of stuff going to the dumpster and very few people even seemed slightly interested in buying those things.
Everyone loves "tool of the day"! 😊
🙂👍
In the “olden days” we gapped our spark plugs with these devices
And set the points gap. On small motorcycles for me.
Tool of the Day, everyone loves tool of the day ...
even the guy the hates chip of the day,... ;-}
I knew about feeler gauges, never seen the other one, so I learned some thing. Any day you learn something is a good day.
@@paulperano9236 well I can think of some exceptions to the rule.
Still loving vintage Starrett...

RIP Starrett.
I love tools of the day… But Starrett sold out, and found this one depressing.
Thanks 👍
Loads of my feeler gauge sets end up getting repurposed as shim-stock (they come to bits so easily) :/
Show and tool
One of the few gauges I don't own. And only $200! Have you covered their Vernier Protractor? IMHO the sexiest of them all.

I want one of those, don’t need it, just want it.

Interesting - never seen one of those.
