they’re probably the only pair in the group that actually act like friends and don’t just keep each other around to satisy their egos and cope with their insecurities
Oh yeah, definitely. I think everyone in the Reynolds family is a narcissist and/or psychopath (which makes their characters so funny). Seeing Mac and Charlie get along relatively well shows what a hilariously toxic effect the Reynolds have on the whole gang.
Dennis and Charlie actually have a strangely good relationship in the show. Charlie seems like the only person Dennis really cares about.
The funny thing is, i think they genuinely like and love eachother as Friends; it just that they are sh*tty sh*tty people, and thats how they all are.

When Charlie’s reads the dental sign wrong Mac doesn’t laugh, doesn’t take the piss. Nah, he’s proud of Charlie for how close he got. That’s true friendship right there
Same thing when mac is patiently trying to teach Charlie left and right until he's exhausted lol

Maybe things like that are why when Charlie is REALLY not getting something, Dennis is the one who usually gets frustrated and Mac has to be the one to tell Dennis to just move on

I love how Mac seems genuinely curious about some of the stuff Charlie says. "Why not just use food coloring?"

You can tell charlie and Rob wanted to laugh during the pissing scene
Rob is on the verge of laughing all the time, and the show becomes even funnier when you realize this and start looking for it.
I love how their dynamic allows for each of them to play the straight man as the situation depends

It’s normally a lot funnier when they write scenarios where Charlie gets play it straight haha nothing tops:

I find the Charlie understanding Gaelic bit hilarious. I’ve studied German in school for a couple years and I can read it but not speak a word so I can relate to that part.

I've lived in Germany for 7 years and can read it (kind of) and have the language skills of an infant. I think some ppl can learn languages. I'm not one of them.
This is so good I love their dynamic so much. I lose it when he pulls out his tongue and it's fucking green and he has that stupid smirk on his face.

All I ever see when I look at them is those 2 kids. It blows my mind a) how much depth that added to their characters and relationship, and b) how much they look like Mac and Charlie would have looked back then 🤯

I love how they’re always terrible people through and through but have their moments, genuine or not, where they try to be inclusive. Which is really funny to me. They still referred to Carmen as “the tr*nny” but in the same breath were all like “we’re so happy for her! she got her surgery AND shes getting married?” (except Mac of course)

It's pretty great that the only real flaw in their portrayal of Carmen is the word they use to refer to her, and even then, it's not entirely offensive in that it's perfectly in character for The Gang, especially given the time period. She's happy, well-adjusted and accepted by basically everyone _except_ The Gang.

i think that's also because they haven't heard the proper language being used. like there's a whole episode about dee dating a r*tarded person and whether or not he is. even while mac calls her a trans slur, he tried to educate himself about her anatomy and future surgery with proper textbooks. they try and care sometimes

I really love that as long as you watch this show, Mac is the most dumbest guy in this show and not Charlie. My favorite friendships in this show are Dennis & Dee, Dennis & Charlie and Mac & Frank.
I forgot about the vampire/bat/batman scene I haven't seen it and years and it really made me laugh it's such a fully couple of line from theme being moronic to mocking "the academy"

10:36 "I got all numbers" - I have legitimately pondered this line from Charlie for actual years. And I don't know why it has drilled its way into my psyche so deeply, but it has to be my favorite line in the entire show.
My theory is that Charlie thought Mac said "you have to go three four ten" instead of 3 for 10
