This movie is now 30 years old today since it’s release. I write this on March 8 2021. I am 53 and remember I was 23 when this was released and all the hoopla surrounding the potential possible danger and violence in movie theaters the first weekend of its release. This was the first “ hood” movie aimed at a primarily an African American audience and consisting of an African American cast and crew. This came out before the iconic Boyz n the hood. This was different than the Spike Lee films which existed before this inasmuch as this really honed in on the drug violence especially crack cocaine which was rampant during this era. I remember I saw this with my girlfriend at the time on the Friday the first night it came out at the old Lawrence movie theatre in Long Island, NY. Wow time flies
Except the middle class grew, the gap between the rich , middle class and poor shrunk, and even though the government actually INCREASED welfare spending under Reagan, more people were lifted out of poverty in the 80s than ever before.....or since. Then ole Bush Sr. Came along, promised to uphold Reaganomics.......anddid the complete opposite of what he promised the people and what Reagan actually did, essentially undoing nearly a decade of unprecedented growth in this country. But because bush sr.
