I fell in love with this game when it came out! So wonderful, so innovative, so creative! Today, 30 years later, i'm still in love with this game and with this franchise!
@Frogger then why did you even click on this video? much less take the time to put your negative comments in here? I wish I could be cool like you and shit on everything other people like
Holy Crap to the 2nd Quest! That thing is a beast and WAY more cryptic than the original. I can't even fathom how lost I would have been or the amount of time wasted on burning every tree or bombing every wall. I would have definitely never found at least 5 of the dungeons and missed every single Whistle Secret or Dungeon just based off of playing it by Quest 1 standards. My jaw is dropped.
Isn’t it fucking awesome? Just blow your whistle on every frame. And yes, it takes forever to find all that shit without cheats. I love these cryptic games. Wish they still made em like this. Nintendo needs to come back out with 8 bit and new games. I’m serious. They’d sell like crazy
I grew up through this and it was awesome!! Nintendo power was a Godsend middle aged women were beating the second quest without cheats it was a crazy time 😂
Also, I keep getting flashbacks to 20-25 years ago, it is a strangely nostalgic, yet sad feeling. Knowing that, I'll never feel that way again, that innocent simplicity...o god
+BronzNazareth Yep and even sadder is one day you might not be able to remember what you are commenting on that you remember.... and after that well who knows.
Play the game. Get a classic NES mini for like $30 from China. I feel a bit like that kid. It was a lot more work and required a lot of determination. My college girlfriend's little brother was playing this game the first time I saw it, and he was making a map of the overworld with what was in every grid and you could see how they were connected. I go to something now and then am like where the fuck was that and either can't remember or refind it. I think I made a map too. So, it took a long time, but that probably made it quicker. A truly ridiculous amount of work went into this. Crazy how much easier it is if you find an extra heart container and the next sword and have twice the damage. Anyway, try taking a break and playing it.
The Zelda series to this day is still in my opinion the greatest video game series ever!!!! I was 11 years old when the first Zelda game came out and I loved how there was no way that you can beat the game in just a few hours or days. This was all before the internet so you could not have a guide to where you had to go. You had to think about every location on what to do. That is what I have always loved about this series is that you had to think about your every move. I remember it was Spring break on my 7th grade year and my goal was to beat this game. I stayed awake over three days and I finally beat it the first quest that is. I still have never Bea the second quest and maybe one day when I have time I will at least attempt to.
I remember spending hours looking for the entrance to that 9th dungeon. I kept placing bombs everywhere and then suddenly one Saturday morning, there it was.
This is on a whole other level than the first quest. Although cryptic, there are clues to all the dungeon entrances, except the eight dungeon but you're supposed to to burn a bush that's in your way so it's kind of obvious. All the random secrets that leads to heart containers and the magic sword are optional even though it makes the game easier to beat if you find them. All the dungeons have some logical layout and you can beat them and find the items if you just look at the maps and visit every room. Now enter the second quest, and suddenly the bracelet is mandatory to find, you have to play the flute in random places, you have to walk through walls in the dungeons, even after you find the triforce and also bomb the least obvious places in the overworld. And that's coming from someone who grew up with the game and played it all his life.
what I love in this game is how you can hear the boss monster's roar a room or so before you actually see it. Really great stuff and as a small kid it gave me goosebumps and made me scared to venture on. Newer zeldas ain't nothing on the classic one, here Link is atleast treated as a hero and not as a little kid.

"SECRET POWER IS SAID TO BE IN THE ARROW" These words spoken by the Old Man in Level 5 in the 1st Quest alludes to the different method in the NES release to destroy the Pols Voices. In the original FDS release and the Japanese cartridge re-release, that had to be done through the mic on the second controller, and so the original clue spoken by the Old Man in that level was called "THERE ARE SOME CREATURES THAT ARE WEAK AGAINST SOUND" and it was also alluded to in the description for Pols Voice in the NES version's instruction book, but many players after having read that initially believed that meant the Pols Voice was vulnerable to the sound of the Whistle (or Recorder).
It amazes me how Nintendo is able to make 20 games in the same series while keeping each one unique and different. Probably the best game series in the world!
I like how there's a slight change in the sound of the music when Link's down to one or half a heart. Obviously, I nor any other gamer looks forward to this. Just something to notice. I never beat the second round. Nice playthrough and thanks for the upload.
Awesome video! I know a lot of people won’t believe me but I beat the first quest back in the 80s without a guide, map, or anything! We were poor so all of our games either came from pawn shops, second hand, or used. So none of them ever had guides or anything. The most frustrating part of my LOZ game was it didn’t save consistently like it was supposed to. I once got all the way to level 9 and it froze up. I was so mad! At any rate I finally beat it felt like the accomplishment of a lifetime! Also a true story: I had no idea the second quest even existed until the mid 90s(again I didn’t have guides or anything). But by that point I had already moved on to Super Nintendo, sega genesis, etc. When I learned the second quest existed I popped it into my NES and tried it. Boy oh boy was it a rude awakening. I think I got through maybe the 2nd dungeon and gave up lol. The “moment” had kind of passed. At any rate you’ve got me to thinking about going back and trying it again(as a 40 year old). At any rate I wonder if there’s anyone out there that has ever completed the 2nd quest without any type of guide? Seems impossible but who knows? Awesome channel! Gained a subscriber!
In the original on the NES, you had to die before you could save. Also, at the end after you beat the 1st quest, it tells you to press start for the 2nd quest. If you pay attention in this play through, you will notice it's patched together from multiple attempts. After the saves, you can see differences in how many rupees or bombs he has each time. They seem to vary a lot.
1st quest I died from the octorocks in the screen to the right after grabbing the sword, and attempting to take my usual starting route, 2nd quest was way more complicated, but looking everywhere for hours for all items I died countless times still hard as can be. This was using the ROM and PS4 controller, cant beat the original is alot easier because I had my advantage controller, and the original nes controller😁
What people don’t realize is back in the day you’d figure things out by sharing secrets with your friends and other people who played the game. You’d draw maps, write down clues, and search everywhere. It would take you months to beat this game. It was amazing back then and still is today.
Unbelievable! Dungeons 7-9 would have been extremely difficult to beat. The story of the 2nd quest is that they finished the game and (unbelievably by 1986 standards) had half the cartridge left, so they just made a second, more difficult version of the game! i loved watching this as I knew very few of the 2nd quest's secrets (or dungeon locations) and just enjoyed it all.
I always thought as a kid typing Zelda as your name broke the game. I never new until this year it was a second game. I just thought it was some crazy glitch
"MASTER USING IT AND YOU CAN HAVE THIS." This is what the Sheikah text in Breath of the Wild translates to when the Guidance Stone distills a rune or map information onto the Sheikah Slate.
I can beat 1st Quest without much difficulty, but 2nd Quest is when things get really hard, every single dungeon. I strongly recommend get the Blue Ring and other upgrades as soon as possible. Looking back at the original Zelda, it was revolutionary for '86, no doubt, but it didn't age well. Link to the Past polished it up.
There are bombs left when you kill a single enemy, then there are bombs left that appear once you've killed ALL the enemies in that room. When the bomb is left behind, you will here a five note jingle being played. This indicates that the bomb or whatever treasure will REMAIN there until you take it. With that said....it's best to leave the bomb there and only get it when you truly need it. If your bomb count has met capacity, then it's a waste picking it up. (after killing all enemies)
How to get 2nd quest early Name yourself Zelda (many people who use to think link was Zelda probably named there self zelda getting the 2nd quest and thinking it’s the stock game)
I feel like I'm the only one who noticed how at the end it says "Legend of Zelda 1" as if implying they _always_ planned for a sequel. Unless this is a re-release
Hola.
What happens when completing Quest 2? I know there's no Quest 3, but does it bring you back to Quest 1 when you reload the file, or does the file stay on Quest 2?
Quest 2 has harder enemies to start with. The dungeon maps are scrambled in different places and there's only 5 donations. The maps for the dungeons are in the shape of the name Zelda Z E L D A, one letter shape for each dungeon. It has no completion for the second quest, you beat the dungeons and that's it, no end game credits it's just free play with no more goals and no climax, sad.
Press START during gameplay to bring up the Items screen, then press UP and SELECT to access the save options screen. Then, hold RESET on the console and press the POWER button (while still holding RESET) to save your game.
Because 2 bomb upgrades require 100 rupees, the 2nd quest exclusively has 3 dick rooms that you either give up 50 rupees or a heart container, bait costs 60 rupees, and you need arrows to defeat multiple Gohmas. That exceeds 255, but you'll get rupees throughout your journey.
All Dungeon locations are changed, Dungeon Layouts are all new, Secret locations are mostly the same with some new ones exclusive to the Second Quest. There are also new traps, including Door Repairs (Lose 20 rupees for discovering certain secrets) and Life Tolls (Leave your Life or Money).
+bulba2021think All of the levels except Level 1 were moved around. Level 8 is especially horrible because of how cryptic it is. I don't know why anyone would think to stepladder across the river on that spot and use a bomb.
I followed a tutorial to complete the first one but I think for this quest I'll do without. I'm going take my time and slowly figure things out using knowledge from the first game to guide me
Zelda II is different, but in a good way. I think it's a pretty awesome game, the only bad part is grinding for EXP, which I think takes way too long most of the time. I get sick of fighting those slime things because I can't fight the bigger enemies that give out more EXP because... well... they'll beat the crap out of me! But that's just me, it has nothing to do with whether the game is good or not, I'm just impatient sometimes xP.
@@christopherpooler5398 the combat in my opinion was better in zelda ii then in zelda 1 bc zelda 1 was slash slash and slah some more zelda ii had like ducking down thrust up thrust over all better
+Crimson King Mario is Nintendo's third best franchise (and the most widely known). I honestly believe that Metroid is their 2nd best IP. With Zelda being on top, which I think most people would agree with. Mario is too simply, yet too effective and could probably end up being more addicting. It has accessibility that the others don't. People can actually beat Mario games, without having to resort to a guide.
Crimson King I think it's underrated. It didn't get many installments and there wasn't one for the N64. Yes, they may feel too mechanical at times and Mario is simplistic, yet very satisfying. Metroid is about the feeling of empowerment and it's not as interesting as Zelda, because you mostly search for Missiles and other items to increase their capacity or to acquire a new arm cannon (beam) upgrade or add-on (like in the Prime series, for example). I think Metroid is what it is, mainly for one reason.. The Prime Trilogy! Retro Studios did a great job on resurrecting Metroid and they made the transition so well from 2D to 3D. While with Mario, I was more impressed when '64' came out, since that game completely changed the entire formula and turned it into a totally non-linear experience, where you could choose which level you play and sub-quest to take on (for Stars).
Still, I prefer the complexity of Metroid. The downside is that it can be a little cryptic at times and Mario is always more accessible and your progress never comes to a halt. It's very fluent and you can see that the main focus always was and is 'Level Design'. In that department, it reigns supreme, but I don't think it's as captivating as Zelda's dungeons. Nothing beats that! And I mean NOTHING!
I was always defeated by Second Quest as a 5 year old. I used to beat the first playthrough all the time and i figured out all the secrets but 2nd quest baffled me and i never made it past the first few dungeons
Damn this guy makes it look easy, I beat Gannon, then I was like YEAH! Then they throw a 2nd quest at me, I thought that was awesome, it was soo hard to beat, burn every bush, push every statue, I dare the new generation try beat these no internet support. You make it look easy I would die sooo much I'm out of practice, no matter how careful I am I'm still going to get hit, and beating those darn nemesis, they killed me more than I got them 🤣.
Seems to me the most frustrating part of Zelda II was that enemies didn't drop healing items; rather, the LIFE spell was prohibitively expensive. Maybe if they made LIFE only 16 magic points to cost, Zelda II would've been much easier...

@@noahmay7708 none of the quest were hard I beat the game without all the unnecessary things like the red ring, magic boomerang you just needed skills
He wasn't asking why, he was asking HOW? I'd like to know also. Rupee glitch?
He probably farmed some rupees and clipped out the footage of him doing that from the video after he saved the game.
What's different in the 2nd quest?
All Dungeon locations are changed, Dungeon Layouts are all new, Secret locations are mostly the same with some new ones exclusive to the Second Quest. There are also new traps, including Door Repairs (Lose 20 rupees for discovering certain secrets) and Life Tolls (Leave your Life or Money).
@DynasticHero I hated Zelda II, mostly because his sword was so damn short.
no cubex55's longplays are NOT tool-assisted!
This is rather trippy.
Level 8 location: WTF?!
(At 1:25:48)

+hawkeye295 Yep, not a fan of totally random required secrets. At least give us some hints, right? :)
+hawkeye295 wait, did they move it from the original quest? cause that was a jack move on Nintendo's part.
+bulba2021think All of the levels except Level 1 were moved around. Level 8 is especially horrible because of how cryptic it is. I don't know why anyone would think to stepladder across the river on that spot and use a bomb.
ok, because I am still working on beating the 2nd quest.
I agree with you 100%! Zelda II is badass but it can get a bit tedious. Enemies are a lot harder in II than in I
@@christopherpooler5398 the combat in my opinion was better in zelda ii then in zelda 1 bc zelda 1 was slash slash and slah some more zelda ii had like ducking down thrust up thrust over all better
How did he go from 14 rupees to 255 after lv 5??
whats the difference between the first quest and the second besides the fact that ones first and ones second
Second is harder and items and dungeons are in different locations. It is definitely worth replaying
I'm more of a Mario fan so I never played this. What is the difference between the 1st and 2nd quests? Just the difficulty?
Wheels8504 the dungeons are rearranged and different, they're in totally different spots, and they're much harder
+Wheels8504 Never heard of a mario fan that didn't also not like or play Nintendo's second best franchise.
I used to beat the first playthrough all the time and i figured out all the secrets but 2nd quest baffled me and i never made it past the first few dungeons
is the longplay is tool-assisted? because it look like a speedrun to me
I don't understand why Zelda games have to be beaten more than once.
Only in this and The Wind Waker
Damn this guy makes it look easy, I beat Gannon, then I was like YEAH! Then they throw a 2nd quest at me, I thought that was awesome, it was soo hard to beat, burn every bush, push every statue, I dare the new generation try beat these no internet support. You make it look easy I would die sooo much I'm out of practice, no matter how careful I am I'm still going to get hit, and beating those darn nemesis, they killed me more than I got them 🤣.
Love the Start sowie all items
Wait, so it is the power bracelet that allows you to use the white sword?
It's been so long, i thought it was one of the rings :p
Aah, I see. Thanks man, I think it is the same for both, not sure though.
5 heart containers for the 🗡
Power bracelet let’s you move rocks
wow good job i enjoyed the video
How did you save your game
Why the "Save" button ?
as use the shield ?
Loved this longplay, but Tsunao gets needlessly hit too much.
i just realized.... the layout of level 9 looks like a space invader....tell me i'm wrong.
Its ganons head so i heard
Coming back in 2021 to say the 2nd quest is was master quest before master quest.
Feel bad for the Kids who namd it Zelda as a player and start in 2nd quest direcktly xD
Question, is it sad that I beat the first and second quest in 2 days casually 100%?
I easily could as well but don’t have that much time on my hands ha
Is this on an emulator or an actual NES console?
1:02:43 Your coins and bombs went from nothing to max. Now you have to start all over.
Do you have Zelda 2?
So wait… link went after courage where did wisdom come from??
This is the original Zelda game. The Triforce of Courage didn't exist until Zelda II.
I can do the 1st quest-definitely not the 2nd quest! I wonder why the second quest was even added in the 1st place?
Adam Werth for people that were really good and would be more challenging
Seems to me the most frustrating part of Zelda II was that enemies didn't drop healing items; rather, the LIFE spell was prohibitively expensive. Maybe if they made LIFE only 16 magic points to cost, Zelda II would've been much easier...
There's no "magic" in this game.
Your thumbs hurt like shit after playing this game. Well done!
I never get the book... the game's only useless item... It makes the wand weaker.
How do you go from having 28 rupees to saving and then having 255? Makes no sense.
He used a glitch.
wish game producers would make some classic style games like this
theres a thing called the Binding of Isaac
You want cryptic bullshit and games that you can't actually progress in without a guide
@@bt3743 you think we used a guide in Zelda?
