54:56 Wild to see these early days when Dan had to ask Arin if he farted a lot. Little did he know what he would constantly suffer in the years to come.
So turns out Birdo being male is an american thing.... Her name wasnt even Birdo in the Japanese game it was Kathrine. So that was just a weird ass decision from someone at Nintendo Of America when they were making the english manual.
Birdo is apparently listed as either male or female since it does come in many colors like yoshi. And no I had nothing better to do at this moment. Let me enjoy looking up useless Nintendo info
It feels super gross going back to the way they talked about Birdo. Yeah, Birdo's a fictional character, but the "eww she's secretly a MAN, gross!" talk is really cringey.
its interesting how perplexed they got when confronted with the idea of labeling birdo at 5:10 , not being able to identify even the idea of a transgender person, which i find fascinating. times really have changed.
1. you can’t say suicide because they won’t make money 2. you still can, you probably just make inappropriate comments to people and have turned to the absolutely hacky and annoying viewpoint that you “can’t say anything anymore”
@@OnlySlightlySad03 From what I understand that is a retcon though. Yes there are other Bridos in SMB2, but SMB2 was originally DDP. Nintnendo changed the enemy's backstory and presentation for the Mario reskin, and she wasn't compared to Yoshi until waaaaaay later during the transition to 3D
@@OnlySlightlySad03 the original SMB2 manual says of Birdo “he thinks he is a girl” - not much of a stretch to interpret this as transgenderism/gender dysphoria But the way these two talk about the character could reasonably be construed as a bit insensitive, though they certainly didn’t say anything egregious. It was two (presumably) straight guys over a decade ago, not a huge deal imo
Arnold and Nathaniel will never remember this play through
39:37 And this line made it into Danny Don't You Know. :D
Can't believe this was their second game they played together
Glad I was there to see witness it because this is one of my favorite games
@douceinthehouse9644 I'll miss them playing these old classic games
Greatest comedy gameplay ever
I was there to witness the change to the "Dan era" too. It was a great time.

I dont consider farting or detecting farts suffering. Sharing is caring
This is the beginning of the

Makes me glad they made the GBA version more apologetic.
And improved a lot on the All-Stars version of the game too
The GBA version of this is so good.
I'LL REMEMBER THIS!!

Really, really enjoying these compilations.

We don't talk about this quote enough

Also I don’t think gender pronouns translate from Japanese I see a lot of he’s when reading translated posts
the japanese version wasnt even mario tho?
Back then, The US didn't like having female enemies that you attacked.
@@evanwilliamson1231same with Samus in NES Metroid~
@@duneblytheyeah, if an enemy was female in that period it had to be like a SUPER gross thing like a brain in a tube, or an old disgusting witch
I imagine that danny is luigis inner voice and arin is his Conchas
48:43 - The moment Dan was accepted by the Lovelies as Jon's successor.
I never noticed the shy guy went in the door too lol
Doing a crossword while watching this and a clue was “borscht veggie”. Wouldn’t have known that
Zangief LOVES borscht. That is the only time I have ever heard of that.
Beet!

Birds was technically the first transgendered character in a video game.
The GBA of this was better

Ahh, the olden days. Where you didnt have to call it, "unalive yourself" and you could make birdo he/she jokes.

how so?
@@miguelnewmexico8641 Its just a bad look with birdo being a trans character. I dunno, just makes me uncomfy
@oxenMenace Birdo is not Trans lol there are multiple Birdos like Yoshis, so some are male and some are female
