Believe it or not, in the original comics Mr. Freeze was just a bank robber who got frozen and got a fancy suit. The plot about his wife was created by the animated series, and most media has adopted this story for him as well.
Yup. You got admit, this origin story was an improvement. You can sympathize with his predicament. The love of his life contracts an incurable disease, and he sets out to save her, no matter what. Boyle, that a-hole, decides to think only of money and not only murders Freeze's wife via cutting off life support, but ruins Freeze's life in the process, all because Boyle, that a-hole, was too greedy and cheap to care about anyone other than him. Imagine if Victor worked for Bruce Wayne. Bruce would help financially, possibly even fund the entire project, just because he cares.
A far more memorable (and depressing) quote is Freeze's final quote in the episode: "I failed you. I wish there were another way for me to say it. I cannot. I can only beg your forgiveness, and pray you hear me somehow, someplace... someplace where a warm hand waits for mine."
***** I was being sarcastic, it was supposed to be a joke. I was originally going to say robin or alfred, but I thought saying a character that was a girl would somehow make the sarcasm more obvious.
fucking mark hamil....... the undesputed king of the joker voices. any episode he is in is an instant yes in my book.... he just eats the scenery whenever hes on screen..... i cant think of a single moment of mark hamils joker that i didnt love.
I've said before and I'll say again… Batman TAS is one of the greatest cartoons ever made. "Heart Of Ice" is a _big_ reason why. It is, for lack of a better word, phenomenal. There were several Batman episodes of exceptional quality, but this one sticks out just for how much heart it has and how much effort was put into every aspect of its production. "Effort". Sadly, there's not too many cartoons nowadays that have that. MLP does. So do Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Korra. And Dan Vs did too.
Yeah, usually superhero cartoons really do have a sense of aura that makes it feel there's a lot more effort put into them than most other cartoons would. I mean, it really does take quite a lot to make a superhero show to not only making it not feel enjoyable, but also feel downright painful at points...
***** Yeah, it's definitely an enjoyable cartoon to watch. I just think that it probably would have gotten more exposure had it aired with the likes of Regular Show and Adventure Time in Cartoon Network instead of at the Hub.
Ever since I was a kid, Mr.Freeze was always one of my favorite Batman villains. At first it was because he reminded me of Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, my favorite character in the franchise. But as I got older and learned more about him, especially through this episode, I found that he's a very interesting villain. His back story is just as interesting as it is tragic, and I think for him, it makes perfect sense. If you ask me, he never went insane like so many other Batman villains, My.Freeze just saw the world for what it can really be at times, a cruel, heartless place, and at a young age, so did Batman. I've often heard about how every Batman villain is a sort of extension of the Dark Knight himself, and I think Freeze's motivation is a big reason as to why he relates to Batman. And as per usual, great review, Mr.Enter. I look forward to your next one.
GrizzlyAdams94 They're pretty cool but pretty goofy at times. Gorilla Grood, Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, Mirror Master, The Trickster, Pied Piper (not really a Rogue but still fights Flash a lot), Prof. Zoom (Reverse Flash, and one of the best DC villains ever made) and many more.
...WAIT. I just realized how silly calling the company Gothcorp is. Imagine Amazon being called Seattlecorp. Doesn't change the fact I loved this episode, of course, just a fun note.
The Fox was kinda funny and unique in a way, but *HOLY FUCK* was it annoying. It was so overplayed and stupid. The worst part was that almost every student in my grade level would not stop talking about it. Oh yeah, and some of the teachers was into it as well. October of 2013 was hell on Earth for me
Oh yes, I remember this episode. Batman TAS was so good. I'm actually more excited for you to cover It's a SpongeBob Christmas than To Love A Patty, because I never really hear people talk about it. Yeah, Christmas Who is nice, but I really like this episode too.
Collin Drey stop motion us whene you use clay or action figures ( like robot chicken) and put them in a position with a mouth position take a picture and move it into the next position. You litteraly take thousands of pictilures and try to seamlessly make them come together. Noatable srop motions are Caroline The box trolls all the christams specile s from the nontus and eightys
I really, really just wanted to hug Babydoll, and cry along with her, really her episode and heart of ice made me very sad as a kid, and as a grown up, i finally understood why.
... What? No summation? No final analysis? You just told us what happened in the episode and other than that one note on the black and grey morality, you didn't really delve into why this was "Admirable". Now, as someone whose seen the episode, I already KNOW why but I'm here to hear you say it.
Dr. Dhoom Then don't do the video. But while he put the time into doing so, he could at least really explain why this episode is so admirable. I mean, he says he doesn't wanna say what's already been said, but this entire video is just him recapping the episode.
Dr. Dhoom I watched the intro. know why he did the vid. I don't know why you assume I didn't see it or if it being made for Christmas changes my point at all. I'm just saying it's a little underwhelming when you come to hear his thoughts analysis on why this is so good but instead you just listen to him recap the episode.
It's obviously admirable. That's why he didn't "delve into what makes this admirable". It's just so obvious. He even says things that make the episode unique.
I think it's kinda bad you missed out on the final ending scene, with Mr Freeze in his Jail Cell, apologizing to the snow globe of his wife which he had in the beginning, saying that he is sorry he failed her, and a tear falling onto the snowglobe with batman looking at Freeze from outside.
It's interesting to note that the security footage that shows a black and grey perspective of the situation is indeed in black and grey colours. It's these little artistic details that makes BTAS great as an animated series
I feel like you needed to mention that Mr Freeze's origin from the series carried over into the comic, being one of the 2 things the show added to the main DC canon, along with Harley Quinn.
You forgot to mention Renee Montoya (like the guy above me just said) and Lock Up. Although a less popular and no longer active villain, Lock Up was actually the first to have the honor of making the Cartoon to Comics jump, not Harley.
Mr. Freeze's speech at the end of this episode always, and I do mean always, makes me tear up. This, along with Mad Love, is one of my absolute favourite episodes!
I've always loved Victor Fries as a character, but his origin in the New 52 is a great twist that shattered any feelings concerning all the tragedy surrounding Mr. Freeze. i love both origins, the traditional and the new twist.
Tallor Daniels Let me go look! ...after looking through my small graphic novel pile (which is funnily mostly made up of Aquaman xD) the comic is called, "*First Snow*". His fit seemed fine. He was built enough to pose an equal threat but he isn't built like Batman or Superman. He just has enough muscles to get shit done. I am not a fan of the little hair plume he has, however. "*City of Owls*" was the last Batman graphic novel I got because Aquaman took precedent and then I had to use money for more important things. Have you read, "Birth of The Demon"? One of my absolute favorites.
Mr. Freeze has always been one of my favorite villains in the Batman rogues gallery, and this episode cemented him as such in my childhood. If I had to pick my top 5 favorite Batvillains it would be as follows: -Joker (naturally) -Mr. Freeze -Catwoman -Riddler -Penguin
1krani Bane is good too, but he's so sadly underused and underutilized in the comics, cartoons, movies, and video games. If he wasn't then he would have probably outranked Penguin or Riddler. He's a genius bruiser, a great mix of brains and brawn. He was the first Batvillain to deduce Batman's true identity, or at least I think he was.
1krani I don't really count Egghead since he's only appeared in other Batman media once or twice outside of the 1960's Adam West Batman show (but I did like Vincent Price, may he rest in peace, as Egghead in that. I don't like puns much but he made them bearable)
How odd is it that the next admirable animation is spongebob but also the next animated atrocity. On that note, how funny would it be if in 60 years we look at things like spongebob you're fired and to love a patty as masterpieces
This show was so good, as you get older you only appreciate it more and more. Mask of the Phantasm is really underrated as an animated movie, it's one of the greatest things Warner Bros. has ever done, everything about it was phenomenal.
Tony Davis Ebert and Siskel actually said they found it regrettable that they discovered the movie so late and considered it far superior the Shumacker films and on par with the Burton ones (I actually think it's much better, but whatever).
Mad props for choosing Spongeobob as your next subject for both categories: it shows very well how unbiased you are, as a show can give us admirable episodes as well as atrocious ones. Bravo!
Personally, I also really like the Batman Beyond episode with Mr. Freeze. I thought it was really cool how a depth of character in the villain was really played upon. Freeze wanted to do good, but had a hard time letting go of his villainous past. I also think that the "Believe me, you are the only one who cares." line was one of the best.
Call me crazy, I think this is probably one of the most important reviews you've done. Taking on of the most best cartoons ever and giving it respect it deserves. I have trouble remembering most of this show because I was a kid watching this, but I loved watching every single bit of the show.
Thank you so much for doing an admirable animation on Batman: TAS, this is one of my all time favorite episodes. Right next to House and Garden, but regardless I look forward to seeing more admirable animations.
This was the first episode of batman of any bat man animated series I ever saw and thus my fandom of batman begun thanks for digging this memory up mr.enter, I can't believe the amount of memory's that came up from this review.
Heart of Ice i probably my favorite episode of any animated TV series ever. The atmosphere and tone are just so dark and heavy, yet sparkling with beauty, and the characters are, as you said, morally ambiguous and fascinating to watch. I'm a big fan of things with large amounts of atmosphere and character, and this episode is just top-notch in those departments!
Please do Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer on your worst. Edit: I just found out Nostalgia Critic did it. Didnt know he did, so lets not get this thread flooded with people letting me no.
He may or may not. Nostalgia Critic already covered it, and he said didn't want to go over things already done by well known reviewers. He possibly may make some note cards on it, to a possible review. I honestly hope so.
I would recommend thank you and Jake's a brick from adventure time as admirable animations. The episode is simple, well told, greatly animated, and the music just makes the two so memorable. In addition the themes are subtle, and well crafted. What makes thank you stand out especially so great is how even though the show is known for randomness and slapstick, it works so well In the episode as the two main characters bond through their simple interactions. In jake's a brick, the themes and philosophical ideas are explored so well, and tug at the viewer's heart so violently. Ultimately the two episodes are so well crafted they truly do redefine how well and amazing the show can be, and how well animation can deal with many universal themes and occurrences in the real world
So New 52 destroyed it that changed Mr. Freeze from a guy who was trying to save his wife into an insane doctor obsessed with a woman who was frozen in 1940's.
+deathknight75 good thing about comic book cannon as a whole. every new ret-con is essentially its own parallel universe. which i kind love. you're able to see those characters in every possible scenario. like fanfic done by people who are both competant and passionate
Then Joker also cuts his own face and even trick the entire Bat family that he sliced their faces until it was revealed that it was a fake face before he fell into the pit.
The Top My Top #10 Admirable Animations I Would Love To See You Review In The Near Future (1-10)! #1. The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (A 2004 Theatrical Film) #2. For good episodes of Avatar, can I also put "Zuko Alone" on the ballot? Maybe it is the most talked about, but I also just think it's my favorite episode of the original series on the whole, even if others have more favorite moments. It really dives into Zuko's backstory to humanize him, which prior episodes like "The Storm" certainly touched on by explaining his present motivation, but it just really got into how he grew into what he is, made him feel less like a sympathetic villain and more a genuinely tragic (anti) hero. The other thing that I just think makes it work is that despite all Zuko's backstory, the story itself works perfectly in a self-contained sense. Taken out of context of the whole Avatar story, leaving just the knowledge of a war and Zuko as a fugitive, the premise and plot could've all been a standalone movie or special.
most of those are either well known, or already talked about a lot. Personally I think Mr. Enter would be more likely to review Batman: Subzero before Mask of the Phantasm.
Waffle C On his DeviantArt page, he made an atrocity card for an episode of Family Guy called the 2,000 Year Old Virgin. It just came out last Sunday on FOX. What happened to that show?
Waitaminute. That episode title is a reference to the 1952 episode of _I Love Lucy_ where Lucy is pregnant (they weren't allowed to say "pregnant" in 1952 so Desi had the writers use a Cuban colloquial term). Are they seriously implying Stewie is... *_sigh_* FUCK. THIS. SHOW.
Soufriere They made an episode where Brian gave Stewie Herpes...... To me, that's where I stopped watching that show. Other than Simpsons Guy, of course..
Soufriere Yep. And the *best part* about it is that apparently it's going to have him pregnant with Brian's baby... Seriously, I've seen fetishes and stories from DeviantART that looks to be more comprehensible than what that piece of shit story is, and it's just the synopsis! I legitimately worry about whether this becomes even worst than Ren & Stimpy's Adult Party Cartoon or, God forbid, Mr. Pickles now.
This was one of my favorite of the Batman TAS because it redefined Freeze from a villain with a gimmick to a more tragic villain and his voice actor Michael Ansara also added to the character. It was same with Riddler in 60s Batman series where Frank Gorshin turned a one-shot gimmick villain into a member of Batman's rogue gallery.
If I had one complaint, the ending of this video seems rather rushed. It's just a recap of stuff that happens, then it stops. But this video was enjoyable nonetheless.
I'm so glad to see you reviewing It's a Spongebob Christmas! I was so relieved that it was a good special after all the crappy spongebob episodes we've got in recent years.
Freeze was always a personal favorite of mine. The animated series was always such a nice blend of action and down to earth drama. It really has made it hard to watch any other animated batman series without comparing them to batman the animated series. It's like reading a book before a movie you go in having unreasonable expectations.
Here are some Admirable Animations that I am hoping to see next... 1.) Walt Disney- "Pinocchio" or "The Fox and the Hound" 2.) The Simpsons- "Bart gets an F" 3.) Family Guy- "Death Lives" or "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows" 4.) Futurama- "The Luck of the Fryish" 5.) American Dad- "Home Wrecker" 6.) South Park- "You're Getting Old" or "The List" (Surprisingly, South Park has a lot of great episodes with deep and important messages.) 7.) Pixar- "Monsters Inc." or "Up" 8.) Dreamworks- "The Prince of Egypt" or "How to train your Dragon" 9.) Spongebob- "Band Geeks" or "Christmas Who" 10.) Ernest and Celestine- I wonder if he will ever do an Animated Atrocity on "Food Fight?" I also really hated the episode "Quagmire's Dad". If I'm not mistaken, that's the episode where Quagmire starts to have a grudge on Brian.
First of all, merry christmas(even though I'm not christian), and second, thanks for doing an episode of Batman: TAS for your new admirable animation, it really means a lot to me.
cjwalkerist luke Uncle Grandpa and Teen Titans are the only bad shows CN has, so you're right. I hope he does an admirable animation on Gumball or Clarence though.
I remember watching Batman TAS when I was going through the worst time of my life. It was actually a point of light at the time. I know that sounds lame, but this cartoon will always hold a special place in my heart.
This episode is so lovely. I was genuinely just watching it yesterday (I was having a Batman: The Animated Series marathon). There's so many amazing, chilling, emotional episodes that this show has, it's amazing to think that what is considered a 'children's show' deals with such deep, emotional issues... It's amazing. PS: Can you tell I'm in love with this show?
Mr Freeze is a really bad villain Not a bad character, just he had a giant loop hole His whole motivation is to save his wife from a disease that slowly kills her. He freezes her to stop the disease until he can find a cure The problem with him is he can easily become a superhero How? If Bruce Wayne simply funded Mr Freeze's research, he can both stop Mr Freeze from having to do bad thing to further his research and come up with a cure for a disease by WayneTech Ever since I came to this realization, I haven't been able to shake it
+alldayagain Actually his motivation is primarily revenge. At this point in the cartoon nobody realized that his wife was still alive including Mr. Freeze himself. However if you watch the Subzero movie you see that Bruce Wayne eventually does use his money to find a cure for his Freeze's wife. Afterwards he does cease any criminal activity for a time (although he doesn't become a superhero as you suggested because that would conflict with his identity as a character) but returns after his body degenerates. Afraid of what Nora will think he refuses to return to her and she marries someone else. This prompts him to return to crime as he wants to make others experience his loss by taking away the things they value the most. And as far as the comic go Freeze's his wife was never revealed to be alive in some "twist." She died in the explosion and stayed dead.
This episode is amazing. It's the reason why Mr. Freeze is one of Batman's best villains and one of many examples of this show's excellence. What more I can say?
One female critic writing for the NY Tribune Harald compared the film to Nazism. She claimed to have left the theater on the verge of a break down and called the film a nightmare. She described it as the abuse of power and a perverted betrayal of the best instincts. And she left before Bight on Bald Mountain
This show made Mr Freeze my favourite Batman Villain, and even though the comics and other media adopted this backstory for him, I don’t think he’s ever been done better since
Mr. Freeze was my favorite Batman Villain too. I remember watching this episode when I was little, and I really hoped that Freeze would get his wife back as I continued watching the show.
I'm kinda sad that you didn't mention that this episode actually gave Mr. Freeze his story. Prior to The Animated Series Mr. Freeze was just a generic villain with no real story, this became such an influential story for him and actually became canon in the DC comic universe. Funny how influential this show was, even creating a new DC character that everyone loves. (Harley Quinn)
I think another Freeze related episode that could easily be an admirable animation is "Meltdown" in the Batman Beyond series. That episode captures what it means to let go in the best way possible, plus it humanizes Freeze so much, we are forced to look at every other villain in the Batman series in a more understanding way.
yeah, before this freeze was just an old one-note villain (with a different name, he was called Mister Zero) that i don't think was even around in the comics anymore. This episode was so influential that the comics promptly brought him back with new name and backstory and that's been the definitive version of the character in almost every Batman adaptation. Even Batman and Robin with AHNOLD used that as the basis for the character.
deadlywork I didn't knew he had a different name once...are they even the same character? Spiderman has 2 villains that both use electricity as their attacks and I honest to God believed they were the same guy who updated, until I saw both both in Spider 2 for the N64/PS1, might be that case here?
cody2819 The only electric Spider-Man villain is Electro. I'm guessing you're referring to the Shocker who shoots air blasts out of his gauntlets. It just looks like electricity since.... Well, how else would you draw air.
they are the same character, they had the exact same appearance and powers minus the tragic backstory and sympathetic portrayal he got starting with BTAS. "mr. zero" has not appeared as a separate character (or even as a name for the same character) since except as a brief cameo in brave and the bold, which is a show about paying homage to obscure characters in the dc universe to begin with.
Am glad you choice this episode. The only Batman Christmas one I know this series did was Christmas With the Joker and I'm glad you did Heart of Ice instead.
Well, I see why you consider this a "weak review"....because it is. I don't mean that in a bad way. There's just prefacing and a recap here, but seeing how I've never seen B:TAS, I'm glad to know the Mr.Freeze story can be done well. Yes, I've seen Batman & Robin, but not B:TAS. I'm also neutral on Derpy, so sue me. Am I slightly less Hitler-ish for religiously watching "The Batman", or more? I wouldn't know about how good it is compared to any of the other shows.
This is one thing that kind of bugs me about the state of animation today. Right here we have what is agreed to be one of the best animated series ever made, and it is an action series that straddles the line between children and adult programming. Despite this, there is an insistence in the industry on creating comedy series. What's more, it seems as though the intelligence of the works and how the writers view their audience is diminishing. (Avatar and TMNT franchises, as well as shows like Gravity Falls notwithstanding) If it is possible to make a show like this, why do so few try to follow it's example?
to put it simply, we lack quality control. not just in the animation industry but possibly the whole entertainment industry as a whole. due to lack of quality control we have have such mindless garbage like breadwinners (granted, i'm indifferent to this series but that's because it takes something rather specific for me to hate something, at least from a subjective stantpoint) along side almost all the other stuff on nick, call of duty, and the micheal bay transformer films. for as much people would like to think that things can only get better and better (despite there being quite a few different situations in history where it was shown that even in the strongest empires, things can get MONSTROUSLY worse over time) there is proof that things have been getting quite worse. if things were truly getting alot better, then why has the 3 things i mentioned been getting new entries/seasons into them despite being of extremely low quality? granted, we have been getting some good shows/game/films in the last few years such as (love it or hate it) Mlp Fim, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, many indie games (Shovel Knight and Mincraft come to mind), and some of Disney's films. though it doesn't excuse the lack of quality coming from other company's. *gives a death glare to microsoft, happy madison, and nickelodeon but also gives a glare of extreme sadness with a hint of hope to Pixar, Rare ware, and Cartoon network* though i could be completely wrong in what i say.
That fat guy in the corner (formerly known as christoferkk) Some interesting thoughts there, but I do wonder whether nostalgia glasses might be altering our perception of events. In the world of animation, at least, all we end up talking about are the good shows, (or at least the momorable ones) while the generic or plain bad shows are forgotten. For example, did you ever hear of the Zeta Project? It was a subpar action series about a human-like robot in the future trying to do good while hiding from the government. Despite the premise, it was bland, forgettable, and short lived. And yet, it was a spinoff of Batman Beyond, and therefore part of Bruce Timm's DC work. On top of that, we had Double Dragon (bland and predictable), King Arthur and the Knights of Justice (entire cast of legend replaced by a high school football team), and all sorts of other shows from the Saturday morning cartoon age that were so incapable of competing that the networks aired them on Sunday. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm not saying you're right. I just think it's important to remember that the bad stuff has always been there.
EditDeath true. nostalgia can be a dangerous thing. but even without nostalgia glasses there can still be plenty wrong, and there certainly are things that are wrong in the industry right now, perhaps not as big as some people are making them out to be, but still big on there own. the first step of solving a problem is acknowledging a problem, after all.
That fat guy in the corner (formerly known as christoferkk) So very true. I'd actually like nothing more than to be one of the guys changing things, at least on a writing level. The way I see it, one of the big issues that animation has always had is that the public generally sees it as being either funny stuff, or kids stuff, usually both. Anime has gone a ways to break that perception in the American minority, but what we really need is something home grown that can prove that animation is viable in the adult dramatic genres. If there's one thing I've seen in the Avatar franchise, it's that there is a market for animated shows that can do drama. It just needs to go one step further. I think I've found something that could fit the bill, but who knows? You're definitely right, though. Something needs to change.
+EditDeath You comment is kind of old, but it's interesting, so I will respond. Shows like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Wonder over Yonder, MLP, Transformers Prime, Phineas and Ferb, Mystery Incorporated, and Legend of Korra are shows that show that modern cartoons can be silly and or mature without watering down things for their audience.
This is why Mr. Freeze is my favorite Batman villain. His back story allows us to sympathize with him even though we know that what he is doing is wrong. It's things like this that create interesting characters.
You've talked about a lot of DC shows by now, as a Marvel fan I'd love to see you talk about some Marvel shows too. There are a lot of brilliant shows, as well as a few really bad ones. Admirable animation: Spider-Man The Animated Series, X-Men The Animated Series, X-Men Evolution, Spectacular Spider-Man, Avengers Earth's Mighties Heroes. Animated atrocities: Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk Agents Of SMASH.
Arxoan Nixtram WARNING, FANBOY RANT INCOMING: Because it dumbs down all the villains to make them more kid friendly. None of the characters have tragic backstories like the comics since the show is too afraid to deal with actual issues like losing a family member or having a divorce, and some of them are even turned into kids like Electro and Rhino. To give you a good example, in the comics Rhino hates Spider-Man because he failed to save his wife from being assasinated. In this show, he's a kid who's mad for being bullied. A little less interesting, huh? I also dislike the constant cut-away gags that takes place in the middle of fight scenes, way to ruin the dramatic moment. To be fair I guess the show is fine if you don't know the source material and isn't planning to take it too seriously, but when you appreciate comics as an art form it's pretty insulting what they do with the characters here.
Is it me or did you just basically explain the plot to the episode? I know that's part of the reviewing process, but you just literally went through the synopsis of the episode without adding opinions or anything. You made two or three points, but there wasn't much to it. Like, 1 and a half minutes explaining your decision for making the review and then in the other part just explaining the plot as it went along. The Smalltalk part and the Morality of the then Dr. Fries, basically lasting about 5-10 seconds of analysis. There wasn't even a wrap up or a conclusion, just... ending the episode.
This was a pretty good review. I wouldn't call it your best, but it's definitely a good review - I think I already realized what's great about putting scenes of small talk in an animation, but this review brought it to the front of my mind. Thank you :)
It's probably being said by everyone in the comment section but this show deserves the praise. Batman TAS is one of the best animated series of all time. Not only is the show amazing but I love the DC animated universe that was created from it like the theatrical movie, Batman: The Mask of the Phantasm as well as the world finest epsiode it did with Superman TAS. Of course including the awesome spin off series, Batman Beyond which is also an amazing series :)
Left out one of the best lines. "To never again walk on a summers day, with a hot wind in your face, and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes. I'd kill for that" This line really cemented it. To be deprived of even the most basic joys in life. It's no wonder he became what he is. He is still the villain, but it's clear to see that vengeance is literally all he has left. And that's an interesting take. Oftentimes, the lesson is that vengeance can't bring back what you've lost. But Mr. Freeze knows it, and so revenge is what fills the hole in his life.
One of my most remembered scenes involving Mr. Freeze is when he returned in Batman Beyond, he sacrificed himself to save Batman, even to the point of blocking Batman from reaching him to help Mr. Freeze, he is such a sad character, and honestly, tragic villains are my favorite, they aren't evil.
Enter. I know you said not to do shows that get a lot of praise, but... Lion 3: Direct to Video. please. it...it touched me in a very special way when I needed it most...I was struggling with a bout of depression, and when I saw a certain video in the episode...I felt something I hadn't felt in a long time. I felt special. just for being a human. it touched me in a very emotional way, as simple as the message was.
Mr Freeze has a particularly interesting role in the games, too. I like how he's obviously a villain, but he's not fucking with Batman like Joker would when they team up. Freeze doesn't want any civilians dead or the city to be his, he just wants to save his wife. He's not really the bad guy or the good guy. Sometimes he's on Batman's side, and other times he's on villains' sides. A very relatable character, I would say.
You know, i owned this episode as a kid and watched it many times, and despite it having so much small talk and not much action, i never found it boring! I still love this episode and think this is the best Freeze there was.
The Mr Freeze episode of Batman Beyond is another really good one that presents Freeze as a tragic villain. It also shows the difference between Bruce and Terry, as Bruce doesn’t believe Victor can be rehabilitated whereas Terry doesn’t have the history with Freeze that Bruce has, and sees him in a more sympathetic way.
Watching this video remind me of when I was younger and watched the whole series off of the DC website. It's probably one of the best shows I've ever watched.
Of course he would. He knows what its like to lose someone important.
RIP martha and thomas wayne
the original "dr"freeze is practicaly the one from the film.
we can easily see why the change was so widespread
Even the Schumacher movies.
"To never again walk on a summer's day with a hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I'd kill for that!" - Mr. Freeze
One of the greatest quotes of this series. And believe me, there were tons of memorable quotes.
shadowlinkbds "I am vengeance. I am the knight! I. AM. BATMAN!!"
A far more memorable (and depressing) quote is Freeze's final quote in the episode:
"I failed you. I wish there were another way for me to say it. I cannot. I can only beg your forgiveness, and pray you hear me somehow, someplace... someplace where a warm hand waits for mine."
Anyone notice the CEO of GothCorp is "Boyle" as in "boil" the opposite of Freeze?
Oh wow...
+Nathan Higgins I never realized this.
+Nathan Higgins It was one of the riddles in Batman: Arkham City: Where does it freezes and boyles at the same time... GothCorp...
+Nathan Higgins Lol I posted this 7 months ago
He also is as repulsive as a boil.
Chicken soup. The only way to fight a cold.
WHY ARE WE NOT GETTING MORE BRILLIANT LINES LIKE THIS ANYMORE!?!
Lol
***** because sadly, good writing has all but vanished for animated shows and, in a lot of cases, non animated shows as well. It really is very sad.
Aisu Tenshi At least we will always have the fans out there who know their shows better than writers of the shows themselves. XD
Agreed ^ ^
Aisu Tenshi Idk. Community is still pretty solid.
The CEO, by the way, is voiced by Mark Hamill, who voices a different, more recognizable, character in the series.
batgirl?
And guess what, his name is BOILS and the person who is trying to kill him is named FREEZE....
Wacka wacka!
I'm pretty sure its The Joker and he's voiced by Mark Hamill
***** I've not watched all 52 episodes of Dan Vs., but I've liked every episode I've seen.
You forgot the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Steve Spud I've not seen the new TMNT at all. I'm _very_ familiar with the 80's cartoon and I saw a couple episodes of the 2003 show.
Brandon Roberts Agreed. Even the Jokers motivation makes sense lol
Batman has the best rogue's gallery. Spider-Man and Flash, too.
Rodney 2x4 To be honest, I'm not too familiar with The Flash's rouges gallery.
Rodney 2x4 Probably The Justice League As A Whole. Spiderman To.
Lexcorp's sillier though. Imagine "Stevecorp" or "Jobscorp".
Why is this in my feed?
Still one of my favorite heros, but you have a point. Meadcorp (meadville), Yorkcorp (NYC), Hellcorp (hell, michigan),
Famix of Power
Hell, Michigan?
ProbeVoyages Look it up. I made up all these company names, though
Mariposa Jhan -
No shit Sherlock.
"It would bring me to tears, if I had tears to shed"
I love that line
Oh look something involving batman & Christmas, you know what this means
JINGLE BELLS, BATMAN SMELLS, ROBIN LAID AN EGG
THE BATMOBILE LOST A WHEEL AND THE JOKER GOT AAWWWAAAAYYY!!!!!
*flying on a Christmas tree rocket*
CRASHING THROUGH THE ROOF IN A ONE HORSE OPEN TREE, BUSTING OUT I GO LETTING OUT A WWWHHHHHHEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JINGLE SMELLS, BATMAN BELLS, ROBIN GOT LAID
Crazy Luigi I LOST MY S*IT AND THIS TREAD GONE CRAZY!!!
THE BATMOBILE LOST AN EGG, AND THE JOKER GOT A WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII *(BOOM)*
"Considered Let It Go"
Good thing you only considered it and didn't put it in the video. That's the one tune the internet will NEVER let us forget.
What about the Gangnam Style?
Gangnam Style is ok, but The Fox can go burn in a bottomless pit of fiyah.
The Fox was kinda funny and unique in a way, but *HOLY FUCK* was it annoying. It was so overplayed and stupid. The worst part was that almost every student in my grade level would not stop talking about it. Oh yeah, and some of the teachers was into it as well.
October of 2013 was hell on Earth for me
LordKraken3 You Were Right About Let It Go. TheMysteriousMrEnter Thank You John!
I guess we just can't let it go(sorry, couldn't help it)
Oh yes, I remember this episode. Batman TAS was so good.
I'm actually more excited for you to cover It's a SpongeBob Christmas than To Love A Patty, because I never really hear people talk about it. Yeah, Christmas Who is nice, but I really like this episode too.
yeah, i like the dont be a jerk song.
It's an actually good SpongeBob special.
isn't A Spongebob Christmas the one done entirely in stop motion? and was actually REALLY good?
What's stop motion
Collin Drey stop motion us whene you use clay or action figures ( like robot chicken) and put them in a position with a mouth position take a picture and move it into the next position. You litteraly take thousands of pictilures and try to seamlessly make them come together. Noatable srop motions are Caroline The box trolls all the christams specile s from the nontus and eightys
Baby Doll is VERY underrated
And very very sad.
HonorAmongScars Yep
Son, she's the most underrated Batman villain of all time, hands down, bar none, no exceptions.
CatMaster90001 YASSS!
+Edward Gil (ObaREX) or if he has a different view as to why this episode is admirable
Spider Doctor Either way, he didn't share that view. It's even better when I hear why other people like things I like, and it expands my view.
I don't think most care about the comic. Beside, comic Freeze was an embarrassment that should be forgotten about.
That was an abrupt ending.
***** not funny.
You are A Sick person
Very abrupt. Also, that comment was kinda blunt honestly...
I felt the same way about Admirable Animations #08. May 30, 2019, 7:23pm
I liked the twist, but they really do need to bulk up the character, I think. Wasn't the comic also called Heart of Ice..?
Tallor Daniels
Let me go look! ...after looking through my small graphic novel pile (which is funnily mostly made up of Aquaman xD) the comic is called, "*First Snow*".
Thanks RC15O5! Also, you don't happen to be a stormtrooper, are you? :P
I'm a shock trooper cataphract straight from Coruscantinople.
I thought it was Mandisanbul, now.
Mr. Freeze has always been one of my favorite villains in the Batman rogues gallery, and this episode cemented him as such in my childhood. If I had to pick my top 5 favorite Batvillains it would be as follows:
-Joker (naturally)
-Mr. Freeze
-Catwoman
-Riddler
-Penguin
Brandon Roberts Thanks :)
I would've substituted Penguin with Bane, but that's just me.
1krani Bane is good too, but he's so sadly underused and underutilized in the comics, cartoons, movies, and video games. If he wasn't then he would have probably outranked Penguin or Riddler. He's a genius bruiser, a great mix of brains and brawn. He was the first Batvillain to deduce Batman's true identity, or at least I think he was.
phantomturtle44
Ra'as al-Ghul? Or do you mean figure it out without knowing it previously? Because that distinction goes to Egghead.
I'd be afraid for the future.
If that is the route for the future, then my faith in humanity has dropped to -674493247558279486.56848549.
***** I agree. That must mean tv/animation will become even worse
In 60 years, I doubt episodes like that will even be remembered.
Reba Fossy Why? We still remember cartoons from the 1930s and that was 80 years ago.
This show was so good, as you get older you only appreciate it more and more. Mask of the Phantasm is really underrated as an animated movie, it's one of the greatest things Warner Bros. has ever done, everything about it was phenomenal.
It kinda bombed in theaters while most people got there tickets to. .. *sigh*... BATMAN AND ROBIN.
Tony Davis Ebert and Siskel actually said they found it regrettable that they discovered the movie so late and considered it far superior the Shumacker films and on par with the Burton ones (I actually think it's much better, but whatever).
I always loved this episode. It's one of the few times you sympathize with a villain and not be given a weird look for saying so
Mad props for choosing Spongeobob as your next subject for both categories: it shows very well how unbiased you are, as a show can give us admirable episodes as well as atrocious ones. Bravo!
+Alessandro Bozzi finding good thingsin something you don't like is an admirable trait
Spider Doctor
It's called being professional. Which, in turn, is an admirable trait.
Ahhh this episode. This really got me so invested with in super heroes.
Milo Thatch No thanks. I'll just pretend that never happen until if somehow get those and read what fucked them up.
Call me crazy, I think this is probably one of the most important reviews you've done. Taking on of the most best cartoons ever and giving it respect it deserves. I have trouble remembering most of this show because I was a kid watching this, but I loved watching every single bit of the show.
"What killed the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!"
Benjamin Abramowitz Ugh
Thank you so much for doing an admirable animation on Batman: TAS, this is one of my all time favorite episodes. Right next to House and Garden, but regardless I look forward to seeing more admirable animations.
I feel like this was more summary than analysis, which is what I enjoy seeing on this channel
This was the first episode of batman of any bat man animated series I ever saw and thus my fandom of batman begun thanks for digging this memory up mr.enter, I can't believe the amount of memory's that came up from this review.
*whispers* Bat Credit Card.
Don't.
You.
Dare.
Mairead Malesco Gillian Quigley I get it!
*I DON'T GET IT.*
Reference to Jontron. Noice. Also that was nostalgia critic reference. xXM@ri0_6341Xx
Jessica muniz
Oh, I didn't see that one, link please?
A BAT CREDIT CARD?!?!
The Nostalgia Critic recently did it,and MrEnter doesn't like to do reviews that other, more well known critics have already done.
He may or may not. Nostalgia Critic already covered it, and he said didn't want to go over things already done by well known reviewers. He possibly may make some note cards on it, to a possible review. I honestly hope so.
Rockstar X Oh, had no idea he did it. I guess ill have to see it.
Nostalgia Critic already did that, he isn't going to do it.
Besides..........I personally hate NC now..... But I do agree that animated "movie" is kind of.. Eck.
+powerist God fucking dammit New 52... Man, I say that a lot. Probably because DC made a lot of terrible decisions with the changes in it.
+deathknight75 good thing about comic book cannon as a whole. every new ret-con is essentially its own parallel universe. which i kind love. you're able to see those characters in every possible scenario. like fanfic done by people who are both competant and passionate
Rayla Kame Yeah, but at least her series doesn't take itself too seriously. It's honestly the only one I still read.
+Rayla Kame Did they seriously ruin Harley?
Then Joker also cuts his own face and even trick the entire Bat family that he sliced their faces until it was revealed that it was a fake face before he fell into the pit.
This is my favorite episode of Batman: TAS. Bless you, Mr. Enter for giving this episode more recognition
The Top My Top #10 Admirable Animations I Would Love To See You Review In The Near Future (1-10)!

#3. Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm (A 1993 Theatrical Film)
#4. Another Good Episode Of Avatar: The Last Airbender- Either Sozin's Comet Or The Storm

He doesn't do admirable animations on shows or movies that are already endlessly praised
Omg yes! This is my favourite episode of batman the animated series ever! THANK YOU for also acknowledging this ones greatness!
That's it? You didn't even review the episode. You just stated what happened in it.
Wow, as soon as I get back into batman all my favorite youtubers do batman stuff! I love this!
If you ever do another Family Guy review, checkout the upcoming episode "Stewie is Enceinte"...
I'll let you figure out that one.
***** worst of all Brian gave it to Chris and he KNEW that he had it.
*Do Admirable Animation on Batman Beyond.*
1.) Walt Disney- "Pinocchio" or "The Fox and the Hound"
2.) The Simpsons- "Bart gets an F"
3.) Family Guy- "Death Lives" or "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows"
4.) Futurama- "The Luck of the Fryish"
5.) American Dad- "Home Wrecker"
6.) South Park- "You're Getting Old" or "The List" (Surprisingly, South Park has a lot of great episodes with deep and important messages.)
7.) Pixar- "Monsters Inc." or "Up"
8.) Dreamworks- "The Prince of Egypt" or "How to train your Dragon"
9.) Spongebob- "Band Geeks" or "Christmas Who"
10.) Ernest and Celestine-
I wonder if he will ever do an Animated Atrocity on "Food Fight?" I also really hated the episode "Quagmire's Dad". If I'm not mistaken, that's the episode where Quagmire starts to have a grudge on Brian.
***** he doesn't do requests anymore.
That fat guy in the corner (formerly known as christoferkk)
I am not requesting, I'm just wondering.
***** oh. sorry about that.
That fat guy in the corner (formerly known as christoferkk)
It's no problem, So what do you think about the new family guy? sure does suck right?
***** i have seen reviews of it but haven't seen many new episodes. iv'e heard its god awful and i can see why from reviews though.
First of all, merry christmas(even though I'm not christian), and second, thanks for doing an episode of Batman: TAS for your new admirable animation, it really means a lot to me.
"The Iceman Cometh!"
Thanks for posting this on my birthday, Mr. Enter!!!!
Lyric chain! I'll start. "It's shaping up to be a wonderful holiday. Not your normal average everyday."
Sounds like someone fell my new coral tree, sponge bob, Patrick, why'd you do this to me?
TheSupersonic317 The world feels like its in loverly.
I was buying fruit cakes and it was time to pay, but then Snoop Dog came and said "Smoke Weed Everyday!".
Red Mage god fucking dammit man really?
Giovanni Incarnate we can still go on "go away before I harm you bodily"
Thanks 4 uploading this Mr. E. It's nice to hear positive reception about DC.
Happy Holidays everyone from me Madman Mario :)
For animated atrocities have you looked at uncle grandpa yet? Preferably one written by Casey Alexander (a writer for new spongebob)
I beleive it to be the only show on Cartoon Network that is worse than teen titans GO!
cjwalkerist luke Uncle Grandpa and Teen Titans are the only bad shows CN has, so you're right. I hope he does an admirable animation on Gumball or Clarence though.
No, UG is just random and weird, while Go is Flat out insulting and annoying
He did. He found it overwhelmingly meh.
jojohawk05 Clarence has some bad episodes. Pilot and the one where his parents leave to go to some monster truck rally.
I remember watching Batman TAS when I was going through the worst time of my life.
It was actually a point of light at the time. I know that sounds lame, but this cartoon will always hold a special place in my heart.
Mr *freeze*
Mr *Boyle* as in *boil*
am i the only one who saw this
This episode is so lovely.
Mr Freeze is a really bad villain
Not a bad character, just he had a giant loop hole
His whole motivation is to save his wife from a disease that slowly kills her. He freezes her to stop the disease until he can find a cure
The problem with him is he can easily become a superhero
How?
If Bruce Wayne simply funded Mr Freeze's research, he can both stop Mr Freeze from having to do bad thing to further his research and come up with a cure for a disease by WayneTech
Ever since I came to this realization, I haven't been able to shake it
+alldayagain Boyle lied to everyone, including Bruce, that mr. Freeze had died. have you seen Batman and Mr. Freeze: Subzero?
+Merete Nora From what I know about Batman, there is no one true continuity. The comics tend to contradict themselves quite a lot.
Glad to see "Heart of Ice" become an Admirable Animation.
If I could request one Animated Attrocity from you, it'd be "Wishmas".
Yes, I remember.
Neat always loved Batman:TAS easily up there as one of the greats right next to Avatar and Justice League.
This episode is amazing. It's the reason why Mr. Freeze is one of Batman's best villains and one of many examples of this show's excellence. What more I can say?
People compared Fantasia to Naziiism? What about it was Nazi-esque?
the dinosaurs
One female critic writing for the NY Tribune Harald compared the film to Nazism. She claimed to have left the theater on the verge of a break down and called the film a nightmare. She described it as the abuse of power and a perverted betrayal of the best instincts. And she left before Bight on Bald Mountain
That female critic sounds like a complete moron.
I remember watching it. Whilst I didn't know a thing about Batman (having never read the comics), I instantly fell in love with Harley Quinn.
I think another Freeze related episode that could easily be an admirable animation is "Meltdown" in the Batman Beyond series. That episode captures what it means to let go in the best way possible, plus it humanizes Freeze so much, we are forced to look at every other villain in the Batman series in a more understanding way.
Huh interesting, heard this rewrote the character btw as it was such a good story for the villain.
yeah, before this freeze was just an old one-note villain (with a different name, he was called Mister Zero) that i don't think was even around in the comics anymore.
"mr. zero" has not appeared as a separate character (or even as a name for the same character) since except as a brief cameo in brave and the bold, which is a show about paying homage to obscure characters in the dc universe to begin with.
deadlywork Sounds interesting.
I like "Batman The Animated Series" more than "The Batman", it's my favorite of all the Batman series to date.
this is my favorite batman TAS episode. Mostly because it solidified (no pun intended) my love for mr. freeze.
***** 'solidified ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This is one thing that kind of bugs me about the state of animation today. Right here we have what is agreed to be one of the best animated series ever made, and it is an action series that straddles the line between children and adult programming. Despite this, there is an insistence in the industry on creating comedy series. What's more, it seems as though the intelligence of the works and how the writers view their audience is diminishing. (Avatar and TMNT franchises, as well as shows like Gravity Falls notwithstanding)
If it is possible to make a show like this, why do so few try to follow it's example?
to put it simply, we lack quality control.
not just in the animation industry but possibly the whole entertainment industry as a whole.
due to lack of quality control we have have such mindless garbage like breadwinners (granted, i'm indifferent to this series but that's because it takes something rather specific for me to hate something, at least from a subjective stantpoint) along side almost all the other stuff on nick, call of duty, and the micheal bay transformer films.
for as much people would like to think that things can only get better and better (despite there being quite a few different situations in history where it was shown that even in the strongest empires, things can get MONSTROUSLY worse over time) there is proof that things have been getting quite worse.
if things were truly getting alot better, then why has the 3 things i mentioned been getting new entries/seasons into them despite being of extremely low quality? granted, we have been getting some good shows/game/films in the last few years such as (love it or hate it) Mlp Fim, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, many indie games (Shovel Knight and Mincraft come to mind), and some of Disney's films. though it doesn't excuse the lack of quality coming from other company's. *gives a death glare to microsoft, happy madison, and nickelodeon but also gives a glare of extreme sadness with a hint of hope to Pixar, Rare ware, and Cartoon network*
though i could be completely wrong in what i say.
Only out of curiosity why do people hate Ultimate Spider-Man?
Arxoan Nixtram
Because it isn't Spectacular.
Silas Dam
Stan Lee: This is what happens for letting Disney buy us out.
Anyways thank you for explaining to the finest of detail.
I'd think Wolverine and the X-Men would be great for Admirable Animations. It's such an underrated show.
I'm glad you finally reviewed this. It took a once cliche boring villain and made him an actually really interesting character.
There wasn't even a wrap up or a conclusion, just... ending the episode.
one of my favorite batman tas episodes

God damn it, you guys...
(I love you)
This was a pretty good review. I wouldn't call it your best, but it's definitely a good review - I think I already realized what's great about putting scenes of small talk in an animation, but this review brought it to the front of my mind. Thank you :)
Sorry, but this review was a let down. It went by too quickly and felt rushed.
If you'd watched the beginning of the video, you'd know why,
It's probably being said by everyone in the comment section but this show deserves the praise.
First!!!
Kill me now.
Ok. Shoots
You did an admirable animation on this episode? That's COOL!
Hey Mr Enter, can you please do a review of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm?
Left out one of the best lines.
"To never again walk on a summers day, with a hot wind in your face, and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes. I'd kill for that"
This line really cemented it.
Every single Batman: TAS episode is an admirable animation.
One of my most remembered scenes involving Mr. Freeze is when he returned in Batman Beyond, he sacrificed himself to save Batman, even to the point of blocking Batman from reaching him to help Mr. Freeze, he is such a sad character, and honestly, tragic villains are my favorite, they aren't evil.
this episode made me cry. Which is why Dr. Freeze is one of my favorite villains of all time. I mean those feelings man, those feelings!
I love this series, mainly due to episodes and moments like this.
Batman may have to be favorite Super-hero of the DC comics to get everything done this really awesome.
You didn't say what was good or bad about this. You just summarized the plot.
Another fine review MrEnter. Man I would never read comic books if it weren't for this show especially "Heart of Ice".
Out of all the Batman villains, Mr Freeze is my favorite, in terms of back story, and what he can do. He also has a badass bossfight in Arkham City.
The music in this episode is the best in the series
You know, i owned this episode as a kid and watched it many times, and despite it having so much small talk and not much action, i never found it boring! I still love this episode and think this is the best Freeze there was.
I personally think of the Joker when thinking of a favorite villain.
*BUT MR FREEZE IS A CLOSE FUCKING SECOND.*
I am excited for all three of those upcoming projects.
