even 5 years later this video was exactly the problem I was having with my 2011 CX-9. I had heard the sloshing sound a couple of weeks ago and for the life of me could understand what it was. Then yesterday the fan would not work. It sort of did a little at start up and I could feel a little air but almost nothing. The back fan and cooling were fine, so I was thinking the fan had gone bad and needed replacing, only to find this video which addressed both problems. Happy to say that using the compressor was all I needed to clear the line, and the fan is working fine. just solved 2 problems at same time. thanks
Totally on point brother, worked like a charm, I didn't even need the blower, the shop vac opened it wide open, poured everywhere. My wife is pleased. Very easy. Thank you.
This was helpful but I have one request for all you RUclips DIY heroes; Please give the How-To portion first, THEN do the Why This Is Important portion after. Helpful video all around with good info. You saved me $300 and 2 hours in my day. Fun Fact: I used a 2 way hand pump to do the job. I got it at Walmart for inflating air mattresses, it will both inflate and deflate. First I used the deflate setting to pump the water out then I used the inflate setting to blow in the drain then I gave it a quick deflate cycle again. Worked like a charm!
You’re right, the noise from the water getting into the blower motor is awful - I thought the bearing in the blower motor had failed and was expecting to have to replace it. After draining everything it was nice and quiet. Not that the $40 for a replacement blower is that expensive, but $0 is even better!
Right!! If left too long without draining, it's too much resistance on the blower motor and that will have to be replaced (and or the capacitor) both are easy and not too expensive but not nearly as inexpensive as free😜. Hope you have a great weekend.
Keith, did you ever happen to figure out the issue? On my 2009 CX9, I have found the drain hole, it's on the driver's side right under the accelerator, and it's a solid cap. I have confirmed that I'm looking at the exact same spot as every tutorial vid shows, but that cap is sealed.

I'm confused. My wife was definitely NOT pleased with this procedure of using a shop-vac on the exit tube, no matter the amount of pouring afterwards.

Your fix was right on the money! The shop vac got a slight drip going, but one or two quick blasts from the compressor opened the floodgates!
Awesome man. Glad to hear!
Thanks a lot man. I knew what it was but couldn't find the drain plug. You saved the day.
Thank you! Glad the video was able to help. 🙌
Thanks. I actually just used a compressed air can and within 2 seconds.. about a gallon of water came out. Blockage cleared.
Thank you so much!!! vacuum did a bit but a shot of compressed air and immediately drained out
Probably saved a hundred or two.
Glad it worked well🙌
Very well explained and very helpful. Thanks a bunch!

Thank you, saved my day!!!

I used a compressor......quick & easy! Thank you!!
Spot on. My question is, what was the blockage?
Any concern using the air compressor that the blockage material will be blown back up and into the A/C unit?
I've seen multiple videos on this for the CX-9 but none for the Mazda 3. I can't find the drain tube on the Mazda 3 2016 for the life of me
Great video btw
Please, tell me is the same on mazda 6 ? 2010
My apologies but I am not quite sure. I am it is the same in principle but not sure of the location of the line on the undercarriage
I have this exact same problem, and I found the plug (looks like the video) however mine is solid, no hole. Has anyone else run into this problem?
can't be the drain then. it has to have a drain to remove water from the system every time you use the ac
you may have a different year? All must have a drain though. Good luck🙌

I did this and chamged my blower motor, only to have it clog back 3 days later. I have to go further up i guess.
No need to Jack up th car just pull back n down the carpeting next to the gas pedal area and you'll see the drain hose right ther
