I have this problem and watched this video to fix it. Worked like a charm! It got clogged again though and so badly a shop vac actually didn’t work. I used a plunger and it worked perfectly! Just an idea for those who maybe don’t have a shop vac
Worked like a charm! My problem started as a whooshing on the passenger side of the dash, like a vacuum door was faulty. Within a few days the floor came up wet. I located the drain behind the silver heat shield on the drivers side of the hump. I used mizel820's advice and used the shop vac. It worked well and the entire job took only 15 minutes including jacking up the car.
Thanks for this video. I had the same symptoms in a 2011 CX-9 - passenger foot well getting wet and a surging blower when turning left. I didn't have a wet/shop vac but I did have an air compressor. One squirt of high pressure air and a lot of water flooded out. Took less than 5 minutes.
FAR easier to do from passenger side console panel little rubber hose under glove box, pop panel off, squeeze tube, or pry top of tube off, and SPLOOSH!
Your method may work however If you have an air compressor just blow air into the drain hole. It took just two short 1 second bursts and the water came pouring out. I did not have to make a seal but that can easily be done with some a rubber cork or even a discarded wine cork with a hole drilled through the middle. Total time 5 min including getting your tools and putting them away.
This does work. But you will have to keep doing it. I am unsure why this dang thing has such an aversion to draining, but we even have to take something along with us to prop the truck up on and carry a shop vac with us when we go on vacations. I love my CX-9 but I hate this issue. They need to see this issue and fix it. Because I also noticed that this is a 2009 and mine is a 2012 so 3 years later they still haven't fixed it.
2013 is an expensive pos. Every summer since we bought it. I have to vacuum the drain. Replaced the blower moter twice. Terrible design mazda. Left turn ,foot shower. Wheel bearings and brakes have been an issue also. Never again.
It did it again a few months after posting the video. I redid it and so far its been good, but I ended up replacing the blower, due to previous water damage. Some people blow the line. Good luck.
Can someone recommend a specific vac or compressor? 2nd time with this issue and was $140 to have mechanic do it. Maybe I should just get a vac/compressor
Hello Chris.. this issue was a while back and what I show in the video helped me for a while, eventually a mechanic fixed it for good. I don't remember what he did (few years back) cause I also was having problems with the sunroof drainage.. maybe you can do what the previous comments says to use an air compressor and blow it.. good luck
@@mizel820 thank you for the response. I did go to a mechanic and this was the second time in 3 months. This time they said i needed to change the evaporator but I could try having them service the housing. Much cheaper with only a 50/50 chance of working. I choose that. So far so good but I kind of know it’s only a matter of time. I think my real issue is parking on the streets of NYC (also no garage and outlets for compressed air) and not knowing enough on how to keep the vents clear. If you know a way I could find the locations of the vents or a way to clear and keep clear I would appreciate. I’m considering getting a Leak shot claims to be able to clear lines with CO2

need to do mine thanks. i have a 2011 cx9
where is the long term fix? I do this constantly with a shop vac, it only clears out the fluid that is there, but then it always fills again.
That's a great help. Thank you.
What about the Mazda CX seven
Thanks a lot, it helped me well :)

Thanks for the video. How it is working so far?

Why does it clog
Thanks a ton!
You're welcome!
so the drain is actually towards the driver's side?
yes somewhere below the shift lever...
