Hi! Diaspora Returnee as well. I have been back for 2 years now - I started building my home when I was in the U.S. I kind of wish I had built it when I was here. I had to undo a lot of work that had been done, which cost me so much money and lost me so much time. I was glad to hear you mention how fundi's would disregard your instructions - that happened to me several times and I always thought it was because I was a woman. Great content - sending other returnees who are building here!
@@ww5106 Sorry sis! My bad😁. I have corrected it. Your case represents many. I have spent millions correcting construction blunders made in my absence. I am so grateful to Wuon Odidi for giving us this platform to share our grievances and successes. So, just know you are not alone.
This happened to me too, fundis don’t listen, they do what they want and cost you alot more to fix their ignorance. However I do acknowledge that some of us build from the weekly/biweekly income we make, so as we work in Diaspora, we are sending money to keep the project going.
Hello Odidi, Am currently in Diaspora and just stumbled on your video this week and you are becoming my number one fun on you tube. You are quite an inspiration to some of us that want to make that transition , but aren’t quite sure. So, your videos are becoming extremely helpful in those of us that are looking towards settling back home . secondly just wanted to share with you of my accomplishment in building my parents a beautiful home in Nandi county, and would like you to future it for view… and to share the experiences and up and downs for people who would like to eventually build homes either for themselves or their parents . As I get living in diaspora… the more i appreciate my parents , and recognize that they are getting older and need to have one piece of enjoyment for all the years they struggled raising us, a family of five. The longer i stay there , the more i desire to return back to kenya. My hubby and I are approaching 50…. and it’s become very clear that we do not want to find ourselves in retirement age in this country and this is the time to start making the move back home… I share a lot of the experiences you have explained in your videos… all i can say is am thankful to gain some words of wisdom from someone like you who is so genuine and transparent. Let’s connect if possible . Keep streaming your videos man ! they are all interesting and very informative. be blessed .
Thank you so much Faith!!! :) Also, congratulations on completing project wazazi!! Can you share your email address so we can exchange contacts!! I'd love to get a hold of you. Asante!
Thanks for the showcasing. The amount of information you provide is very valuable... Many thanks for this.. I liked the grills of staircases in this house, it is the exact type im planning to install. Im planning to build in Nairobi and the main issues im afraid to face is quality control and staff management... many short cuts happen and fundis dismiss the owner instructions and disregard the favorate materials,,, they even try to dominate clients and this happens specially to Female owners... i consider this as gender harassment which can the female owner report and fundi be accountable for the law. To avoid these problems, the client can prepare detailed contract/agreement that keeps client rights, ensure quality of materials and workmanship and avoids any risks that may come from the contractor then you combine to the contractor agreement... if he refuses the draft, then he is going to play bad game with you.
Wow I love this place the memory I have of this place was climbing down the hill from my the College RIAT technical college the place is magnificent and it is a place of order I am glad I am grinding so hard somewhere inside this world 🌍 hoping one day I can own a property here
For the first time I haven't listened to your whoozing wisdom was shut on this beautiful house 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 Wacha niskie wisdom kesho You are giving us beautiful luo views truly
Love the presentation you are doing a great job helping our brothers in diaspora. I have also rescued several projects for people living in diaspora. Looking forward to meeting you one of this fine days.
Baba Odidi, I am finally at the finishing stage of my project in Kisii, I can relate with the things you mention about the interior finishing and selection of materials. I can't wait to spend a little more than just 2 weeks in Kenya when I visit. More blessings your way and maybe one day we can link up and trade ideas.
Beautiful house I must say I was distracted wether to listen to your wisdom or concentrate on watching the beauty of the house. If its new house I recommend you do like house tour video. Explain what we are seeing Regarding Fundi we have the same problem in Tanzania My builder still don't believe I want balcony from the master bathroom and Bathtub by the window😅😅😅 He tried to talk to my husband and since then learned I am the project Manager😊😊 They also have tendency to ignore women.
Great info! Hopefully you are able to visit I am Marwa's villa in Nyabohanse village. His villa was recently visited by Princeton University students regarding the impact of social media particularly RUclips. Some great building in Migori too. Road to 10K, let's keep going ya'll.
Marwa has built on a.swamp. He has.no plumbing, no running water and no electricity. He should have put those in mind before building that monstrosity!😅
What is your opinion on using a construction company like (Fine Urban Construction, Real Estate, and Interiors) where they handle everything for you. You just pay they do everything.
Mixed thoughts...they can be good in some ways but challenging in others: They are often very expensive..not great for small projects: But can deliver quality work with minimal supervision
It is good that you be around and personally supervise the work of your house. Even for the prestigious companies, dont rely on them totally. They might do short cuts and the victim is the owner spent his/her hard earned money on lifetime house ... if you are in Diaspora do a plan with schedule, divide into several stages, and when you come in holiday, do certain stage and go back... it may take longer time but you will get good results.
Love them but they're super expensive and getting more expensive with popularity. I know that a group of friends have one of their returnee buddies to supervise all their projects. So far it's worked out well for them.
My name is Edward Yongo. My family lives in MA. I have been remotely building my house/home at the foot of RAMBUGU hills. Could we connect and share ideas on how I can improve my place.
True they dont like dealing with women..i have had to deal with them for years..Now i am engineer,designer,painter...ata they talk behind my back in their dielect and surprised when i reply ..lol
I do not have an interior designer..they are really expensive..so I just got fundis to do different things..I can share contacts for different works like gypsum, wainscoting, bathrooms etc..just tell me what you need
Ounga Commercial and others have messed up the serenity of RIAT Hills. Kisumu County is also not protecting that Hill. Soon, it will be a slum filled with nonviable subdivisions.
Yup! It's never about the house/mansion itself, it's always about the security and the immediate surroundings. I once saw a beautiful home on a golf course in Kiambu but I was informed that driving home after 7pm towards the gated community was a security issue.😮
@WuonOdidi Lol... not talking about roads. That Hill used to be a Karura Forest for those who remember. Unplanned and unregulated developments have ruined it. That is Kisumu City's "breeze circulator," and the greenery there must be PROTECTED.
@@WuonOdidiI will tell you about the roads & it's funny 😂. Kura is a let down in Kisumu. Kenha has its mandate & they have 3 projects that Mbadi had to find a way to finance them
They tell you "it is the standard" very annoying. Talk about doors, you will be told such tall doors are not available!! They seem to have no clue on how to custom make things.
