1961 Hamilton A-575 Calendar Restoration | Greasy Dimples and Forgotten Screws

- In this video, I service a vintage Hamilton Accumatic A-575 from 1961. The movement is a Swiss made automatic Hamilton caliber 692 with 17 jewels based on the ETA caliber 2452. Although this watch as it came into my shop was in relatively good shape, there were some small surprises in the mainspring barrel waiting for me. Despite a couple of knuckle-head mistakes I could have easily edited out, I got this little gem back into tip-top form.

Totally missed your videos! Glad to see new content!
Thank you!
I am very glad to see your videos again.
And I'm very glad that you watch them!
Best narration on watch videos by far.
Thank you! Very kind of you to say.
Great work, Josh. I don't know why people look down on ETA-based movements. They are beautifully made and the price was right for a working man in 1961.
Agreed 100%. There is a reason ETA (including their previous corporate entities) have been around for as long and have produced as many movements as they have. High quality, reliable, repairable, accurate, affordable, and plentiful...would that more consumer goods have those attributes!
Great to see you back!! Hope all is well!
Great to be back! All is very well now that I found some more bench time!
Great to see you back!
Not as great as it is to be back!
Glad to see you back
Thanks Fred, I appreciate that!
He’s back! Great video!
Like a bad penny.
Nice old watch. How was it on the Timegrapher? Good to see you back and thanks for an informative video.
Hi Josh, good to have you back and congratulations on the new day gig. When disassembling why did you remove the lance, pallet fork and escape wheel last? Most watches by most watchmakers take at least the balance off first
Thanks Alan! I remove the balance last more out of habit than anything. It does make some sense to take the balance assembly out first to protect it, but I’ve developed a routine and order of operations that work for me. I do need to be aware of the balance wheel, especially when I’m working the dial side, so I don’t foul it with my fingers.
Thats a very nice watch, was is a vintage watch like that worth, and by the way great job. And i just subed
Thank you very much. Value, like anything, is heavily dependent on condition. For this example, I would guess it would trade in the $375 range or so today.
Does this watch have the original crown with the "H"? If so, what are the measurements? Or if you know the original part #? I have one without the original crown and would like to source a NOS. Thanks!
would you be able to do a video on a hamilton 987S?
As a matter of fact, I have a 987 on my bench right now. It's essentially the same as the 987S and I hope to have the video edited in the next few weeks.
I'm a "1961 model" also... I wish I could get that kind of care for my "movement" (no matter what I typed within the quotes, it still manages to sound vulgar). By the time this Hamilton needs further service, I'll be "out of service". Oh well...
I’m a huge fan of double entendres and using quotes to make “seemingly” innocent phrases appear more profane than they really are. My hat is off to you, sir!
@@WolfeVintageWatches I am so used to making such comments that this time around, with this being a "family" channel, I was unable to avoid any word that didn't sound risque. Most of people I know have come to expect this from me. My wife would roll her eyes and say that it's in my blood. I taught high school for 30 years and I had to be careful, and often failed. In all seriousness though, I really love watching these watches get disassembled, and more importantly reassembled. I have a pocket watch that I managed to mess up, and I need to find someone to bring it back to life. It's a very nice pocket watch, a very thin Bulova from probably the 50s.
why did you not upload for a long time?
I started a new day job and I haven't been able to get nearly as much bench time as I would like. Now that I've settled in enough to my new gig, I've been able to get into the shop on a more regular basis. I have a backlog of video footage that I just need to edit and publish. Thanks for asking....and for watching!
