Love getting hyped to try Dostoevsky 💪. I’ve been intimidated to try him my whole life but it sounds like it’s more accessible than I thought and gripping, so I just gotta do it.
Can’t wait for the Fool’s Quest chat!

Half way through Tigana right now and really enjoying it. Glad you're enjoying Crime and Punishment, it's a classic for a reason. Cheers!

Nice, another Tigana fan! Didn't know you were also reading it. Can't wait to see what the heck is going to happen in the last 3rd or so of Crime and Punishment. What a wild ride! Great to hear from you, Jared. Go Bulls! haha

You don’t *need* to read anything you don’t want to 😁. But should you? I think so!

Tigana is where i started with GGK, and I'd say its my least favourite of his books I've read (still adore it though). I'd recommend Lions of Al-Rassan (Moorish Spain inspired), Under Heaven (Tang Dynasty of China inspired) and A Brightness Long Ago (Renaissance Italy inspired) are my Top 3. ABLA is a prequel to Children of Earth & Sky though but it can be read as a standalone.
    In August I read:
    *Comics*
    Green Lantern Book One
Written by Geoff Johns | Art by Ethan Van Sciver
    - I think Hal Jordan become my fav DC character. He shuts Batman up with 1 punch 🤣
Hawkeye Volume 1: My Life As a Weapon
Written by Matt Fraction | Art by David Aja
    - He's lame in the films but I adore Hawkeye in the comics.
Thor God of Thunder: God Butcher
Written by Jason Aaron | Art by Esad Ribic
    - Fantastic!
    *Fantasy*
Rain Wild Chronicles 1: Dragon Keeper
    - Really liked it.
Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior
    - I'm in it for the long haul now! With the exception of Dakar, I really enjoy these characters and this world. I'm a mood reader anyway, especially with this series.
I NFNed Jonathan Maberry's Patient Zero (again) and Larry McMurtry's Streets of Laredo.
So far in September I've read:
    Criminal Volume 1: Coward
    Written by Ed Brubaker
    Art by Sean Philips
I'm currently reading too many things 😅:
    *Comics*
    Astonishing X-Men Complete Collection 1
Written by Joss Whedon | Art by John Cassaday
    New Avengers Complete Collection 1
Written by Brian Bendis | Art by David Finch
    *Fantasy*
Rain Wild Chronicles 2: Dragon Haven
    *Historical-Fantasy*
A Song for Arbonne / Guy Gavriel Kay
    *Mystery*
    Mystic River / Dennis Lehane

Dang, all 3 of those Kay books sound so awesome. If I enjoyed Tigana this much then I'm assuming that bodes well for me continuing my Kay journey. You and I both are currently reading too many things haha. But there are worse problems to have!
Didn't realize you were such a big comic book fan. That's awesome! Comics are a medium I never got into and I'm not sure why. Maybe I'll have to give them a go someday.
Happy to hear you're enjoying Rain Wild Chronicles so far!
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment on my wrap up as always, Rogue. I look forward to your comment and was just telling my wife about how you comment on all of my wrap up videos. I appreciate it and you my friend!

Crime and Punishment gave me so much anxiety and it was great. Loved that book. And Hobb is your favorite because she is the best! Congrats on almost finishing, you are in for a real treat with the last book and a half to go.

Haha Hobb is the best! And I feel you on the anxiety. It is real and palpable. What a masterwork this book has been.

I agree with everything you said about Crime and Punishment! I was so intimidated by it, but then found it much more readable and compelling than I expected! Raskolnikov is such a fascinating character to follow.
Also, my Comedy with Colin guess is... prime mates?!

I agree he is so incredibly fascinating. I can’t wait to read the rest of this, I literally have no clue where it’s going to go the for the last 2-3 parts.
Also, bingo!! Great guess! I love when people actually guess the Comedy with Colin. Thanks for watching and interacting with my channel, Ashley!

I can certainly see why and I'm not even done with it yet. I have literally no conjecture as to how this last 3rd or so is going to play out. But I am anxiously awaiting finding out.

Love to see you enjoying the classics so much! I am currently listening to Dracula for the first time and that is also surprising me in all the best ways, no wonder these books have gained such respect hahaha.
Also, heeeeck yes for Fool's Quest. Everything really starts to come together there, and I was similarly riveted by all the drama and tension.
My favourites reads of August were Asunder by Kerstin Hall (new no.1 fave of the year), Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle and Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors! Cheers :)))

I loved tigana when i read it as my first GGK read. Then i read lions, arbonne, and the sarantine mosaic and liked them all more, with the sarantine mosaic possibly breaking into my top ten all time reads.

Hey Colin fantastic video! Do you think that I could read C&P without using other sources for better understanding because that kill flow for me and I just want to enjoy the story but I heard that is not easy read?

    • @ColinsCornerYT
      @ColinsCornerYT  2 месяца назад

I have not been using any outside sources whatsoever to help me in understanding the narrative, just using a source as a guide for how much to read in one chunk before discussing with a friend. I absolutely believe you could read C&P! It's of course stylistically different for a number of reasons: 1.) It's translated, so I'm sure some of the nuance and style gets lost in translation, although I'm not sure if it really does or not. and 2.) It was written some time ago.
I say go for it! I've been having a blast with it.

I listened to the 10 Very Big Books podcast when I was reading the series a couple of years ago. I was hoping they would go through the Esslemont books too, but they quit podcasting altogether after they finished the main series.
I've only read Tygana by GGK. I thought it was good, but I wasn't super excited about it. I think I'm gonna read The Lions of Al-Rassan for my next GGK book.

    • @ColinsCornerYT

Ahhh that's unfortunate to hear that they quit podcasting! I really have been enjoying their podcast a lot.
I think Lions of Al-Rassan may be my next GGK read as well.
