I am so saddened by now seeing the stories of so many brave Americans that were stationed at Fort Ord. I was there beginning in August 1995. Not as a soldier, but as a student in the first wave of 600 students at Cal State University Monterey Bay. I know now the men that came before us had a cause bigger than higher education. As a student, I wish these people were studied and revered, But as most California universities do, the curriculum delved into "diversity", totally ignoring the history. If I could go back, I would advocate for teaching of the real history of the university grounds!

lol, if I could go back... Id hope The Saddle Rack was closer than San Jose and that Shannon lived closer than Morgan Hill, but thats a whole different story...
lol, I actually enjoyed most ofFt Ord and wouldn't change being MANCHU for anything!!

Sorry but I don’t remember, but some of the guys that I was in with that would have most likely moved on to Ft. Lewis would have been Spc. Jenkins and pvt. Shoemaker back then a lot of the guys I was in with where getting early outs . I think in 91 my platoon sgt. Gibson who was an E6 (skinny black guy) was moved to Headquarters. He did not like me too much or he made it seem that way . I have had no contact with anyone I served with since October of 92 which is pretty sad.

@@lastmanstanding9536 yes sadly I was not alive to see this great place in action. I’m trying to use my social media platforms to preserve what’s left of this place, like colorizing photos and getting the history of Fort Ord out their. Sad that it’s come to young people like me to do this and not the authorities in the area but oh well. I wish they would restore some of these barracks into a museum, could be a cool community effort.

I'm not a soldier but the men and women who came and went from the Ord are one of a kind. A last of a dying breed. I can remember as a kid watching them do PT if I was up early enough. Me and a couple of the other brats used to hide in the tree lines and watch. I remember my pops taking me on a high point with two sets of binoculars as we watched the final voyage of the battleships as they retired them. The history of that place as far as the US Army is legendary I'm proud that I grew up as a kid . I took a lot of the values I learned there and implied it to my life. The most important thing I've learned is to respect and to love the country that these soldiers gave their all so we can have the freedom we have today! Freedom isn't free remember that, and we make a difference by respecting all that has served this country!

I was there A-12 for boot camp in 1971.
I went back in 2017. What a mistake. Why did they just walk away and left it to the gangs and vandals to mark up the walls a destroy the old fort?
It would have been better just to burn the place down.
