This song makes me feel so many things... I remember when this was released, in the beginning of the pandemic, when everyone was stuck at home. I was drinking a lot during this time as I was shut in the house, and this release was on repeat. Hearing this song now, almost a year later, brings back those haunting nights and never-ending days that the beginning of the pandemic brought on all of us. Beautiful piano melody juxtaposed with the anxiety-ridden soundscapes-- classic Reznor/Ross.
This is outstanding. The level of despair and beauty mixed into a single note.
Well said
And he's always been able to do it so well, almost effortlessly. I love it but I can only listen so often LOL
Adam Curtis has a good ear for music, I'll give him that.
Documentary had me shazamming every 5 minutes, or at least trying to.
Reminder: 2 guys made this in the last week or two. How? The Fragile took two years which makes perfect sense but this is freshly shit pure gold.
Well the last 4 Ghosts took the band a month or so of just improvising in the studio, I think. Considering Trent's mastery over the years, I guess it doesn't take long. In about 10 years or so a bunch of hits from many genres will probably take a lot of influences again from these pieces.
The Fragile took longer because Reznor was an addict constantly in flux with what he wanted to do, then getting writers block for long periods without any sort of partner to bounce ideas off of. He had collaborators, but Collaborators don't get a say. No one had the power to tell him when he was getting off track or meandering.
This is where Atticus Ross, who has been with him for nearly 20 years now comes in. He was always in the shadows, acting as a compass for years until he made his prescene known in 2010, then HTDA, then finally the second official member Nine Inch Nails. It was he who dragged a kicking and screaming Reznor into the 21st century, keeping him from being a dated act like 99 percent of his contemporaries. A thankless task too, considering the amount of shit he gets from many NIN fans.
It was worked on longer than that. The art director wrote that he was listening to it a month ago
The Fragile took longer than 2y lol
To everyone correcting me, Trent spent two years WRITING the Fragile. It obviously took longer than that to mix and release but he was touring right up until '97 so it wasn't the full five years.
damn Im hearing all kinds of vibes on this from Debussy, Coltrane, NIN, Nu Jazz, Bohren, amazing work as always!
Jazz Noir
Steven fucking Halpern the GOAT
Also Fields of reeds by These New Puritans
Very well put on the G-spot .. buddy !
Bohren and der club of gore?
Easily my favorite track from VI. Music evokes so much power and emotion. But this. This is something else. This evokes so much more
I will never be able to stop listening to this.
Distant sourceless horn, crying. In the night, in the dark.
..."But then something unexpected happened and changed the world forever..."
Music to slip and crack your head on the bathroom sink to.
Now I got something additional to worry about.
Great scott.
Gone Girl Part Deux?
Naw, that's The Space in Between ruclips.net/video/BRzl7wiI5M4/видео.html
Brilliant
That horn!!!!! 🖤🖤
Hearing haunting little layers underneath at 5:30, just the undercurrents of dread he programs in to seemingly every layer--it's fucking magnificent.
sounds to me like the music that's playing just when the sun is about to vaporize the earth
horrifically spooky beautiful tunes
Rather the last star in the universe dieing out.
When the source of light is gone.
Heroic, vengeful, mourning. Absolutely beautiful.
This is my favorite one so far
how immense is this..Napoleon Blownapart lead me here. what a haunting track
This song is beautiful.
Just heard this now for the first time and ... ??!!⁉ Mind blown!!! - That absolutely took My Breath Away!! Wow! What a Masterpiece. This is now added to the very few list of all time Favorites!
This track speaks to my anxiety only in a way "The Gentle Hum of Anxiety" from Social Network does. Wow. What a journey.
Wow! Well put. Never really thought of it that way but, yeah. I get it.
This is absolutely magnificent. THANKS.
My goodness, these tracks. So good.
this song would go pretty hard in a post apocalyptic movie
The sax is haunting
It's a mute trumpet, mate.
You could say
Hau-hau-haunting
I love this! Trent, Atticus, you are an inspiration.
Frequency and amplitude modulation via independent melodies, with implied potentially relevant results/summary of waveforms in trumpet melody
This is counterpoint/polyphony on a wave function level, as J. S. Bach represents the epitome of counterpoint/polyphony on a melodic level
Sublime and developing over time
You’re showing your emerging craft and experience, and can’t wait for others to recognise sublime structures involved and share them subtlety also
Homeland new theme song ! Amazing !!!
wth! these are all so good
This reminds me of later era Throbbing Gristle and I’m totally here for it.
How does he get that sound? It’s incredible. And a constant since 1988. Genius.
How is it possible to be so emotionally attached to this piece? Beautiful 🖤
U have fantastic taste in music
Amazing.
Sublime
I was reading Lovecraft with this in the background: I almost lost my mind...
I was reading the dark tower to these two albums, works just as well.
Celestial
and then something completely unexpected happened
The piano melody is the same as the one used during the chorus of 'All The Love in the world'. I knew this sounded familiar.
Best music
Music to stare to
"We're living through strange days"
Belongs in the score for a Spike Lee film ... if Spike Lee ever did 'Inside Man 2' based in New Orleans ...
The soundtrack to the 21st Centuary.....
Disco Elysium vibes on this track!
Is that game really as good as Planescape?
Stay healthy.
@@MisterAAnderson It really is man. Hope you've picked it up since this comment.
@@nickbooze9766 Sadly not. Didn't have time. But I've got my eye on it.
Triggers my thoughts... I can only think of my nan, unable to walk, dementia, bed ridden, not knowing, what's coming, but I know it's the end....thought travels to my brother 30 miles away, I worry, he's fighting his addiction, but he's not alone, he has bruises to keep him company... I'll be ok even though I stare it in the face..... I'm sorry, it's just this sound makes me think this way
Don't be sorry.
Thank You for this last dance before all fades away.
I just imagine Gary Numan And Trent Reznor singing together "Is this Love"
Oh my god, I just tried visioning that. It kinda worked! Lol.
❤️🎹🎸 So much love #NIN
Woah journeyss
I mean....DUDE....This is fckn good shit! Whewh!

Hello!
I love you Trent & Atticus
mooooood
Howdy!
Bru is this like good ???
The sirens at the end remind me of that video of the hawk screaming at a glass door: ruclips.net/video/abltbGT63O8/видео.html
97, 9, 4.
I was thinking more 99.9.9 but whatevs.
Free is good. Unless its an STD. So not complaining.
It's a shame that we're waking to the dark craft and Spells you cast Mr Reznor.
wdym?
@@violetbaudelaire7353 it means Mr Reznor is illuminate. He's high level too as he has been incorporated into the main stream (Disney) the words he uses and the content and context is very dark. He sings about law (legislation) and the sea (maritime law) in many, many songs. He's very clever. I respect that. He also uses subtle hand gestures on live appearances which is spell casting. 666 hand signals and a halo gesture on one video. I started watching closely when I realised the words he speaks have relevance in law. Which I study. The words used have a frequency which is harmful to us. He knows this. The frequency the instruments are tuned to, 440hz is also damaging. 432hz is a healing frequency. He knows this too. Have a quick look on here for 440 vs 432. There's a bowl of water experiment that shows the frequency affecting the water physically. Fascinating stuff. I'm glad someone noticed and asked to be Frank. 👍 LFE is a traumatisung frequency 'the great destroyer' features this in many areas during the 'boom/blast /noisy' instrumental section of the song. There is such a thing as black noise. David Bowie, another illuminate refers to this in a video interview which is also on RUclips. He states you can kill people with it. He is correct. There is also evidence of 'graphene oxide' being manipulated with certain frequencys. It is present in certain vaccines. C19 to be precise. The Travis rapper show a few months back had several audience members collapse. The symbology of that event is clear. 'See you on the other side' and the mouth wide open and people walking into the mouth.. This represents baal. A demonic entity they worship. They are spell casters. Strange but very true.
@@diaryofadeadtattooist oh, right-- well, thanks for the clarification 👍
@@diaryofadeadtattooistdafuq are you on?
@@violetbaudelaire7353 illuminati.. Ever seen his hand gestures? Keep an eye.
feels like some far cry 3 shit
Bad Witch, Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts are beautifully written and produced...NIN has evolved into avant-garde music as of late. Not really my style. I miss the old Nine Inch Nails.
if beautifully written and produced isn't your style, then try some Drake. I guarantee you'll love it!
Lloyd Holiday I’ve filled my library with nearly every NIN Halo, bootleg, movie soundtrack, Reznor & Atticus Ross score and multiple other collaborations Reznor is apart of w/a few exceptions (i.e. latest NIN albums). Snarky Drake and mocking comment aside, I’m still a massive fan of the man and his mind. Merely stating MY opinion.
Brethren can you hear the call of the shofar? Epiphany is upon ewe
The sax reminds me Lhasa de Sela...
It's a trumpet, not a sax
Well smoke a Jimmy its sell-out music
Me. The peak of mania. Wandering aimlessly in circles. Collecting my thoughts. Dropping them again. And again. And again. And...
there is a whole album in this one track
We are living through strange days...
Great party music
🪰🐖
Let's say I'd never come across this song when browsing RUclips, I would surely die a different person an incomplete person, my life would've gone to waste... but I did get to listen to it... I don't know how to feel, how many more of these masterpieces are out there that I don't know about!!!!! O God I'm loosing my mind!!! Guess I have to keep on looking.
Those trumpets (?) from 00:59 onwards always make me think of Disco Elysium
*this is what it feels like*
Just listen to ghosts 5 and 6 in a dark room. It is just a experience.
Same!
When I’m dying, I’ll be listening to this on repeat…until I can hear no more.
Oh please Trent..did u fall asleep on protools?
For some reason this reminds me of certain themes used during the first two seasons of House of Cards, anyone?
Either way, Nine Inch Nails is life, and I will never forget when Trent dropped V & VI on us a week into the lockdowns starting all over the world. It was late March 2020 and I just got back to London from New York a couple weeks ago, and life as we knew it suddenly stopped. Walking through the deserted streets of the West End while listening to this will remain forever etched in my brain.
Such lovely tunes.
I listened to the video game stuff. It frightened me. I imagined a dragon with seven heads taller than a mountain unleashed on the world leviathan still alive after thousands of years breathing fir and acid and cold the sound of it's voices carried for hundreds of miles hearts filled with terror at the sound NEVER seen or imagined in modern times. A nitemare filled my head.
This song, you are immediately hit with the finesse of TR and AR. Refined in their craft to pure gold, that duo:). Seems to just flow so easily from them. Smh:).
So intense. What an amazing artist. Deep dude. Hope hes in a warm place
This really would have fit in the Shawshank soundtrack
Need a playlist to be able to hear them all at once

Jä I made my own. Just do it in order; either up or down you can use the 'sort' function en play to correct it.
Thought he was gonna get all the pieces playing on separate tabs
Wow!!! Wanted to Dance!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing !!!
we're all happy you learned the sax ❤️
Definitely, but I'm hearing a lot of trumpet in these pieces and loving it.
@@GoryRory In the timeframe that he and Atticus have been scoring a Disney/Pixar film about jazz, the trumpet makes more sense.
@@RedQueenCreative_Roxie I thought they were scoring the non-jazz related bits
@@RedQueenCreative_Roxie They're also scoring a Fincher film set in the 40s and using period instruments, so I'm sure this is them also testing the waters.
Its definitely not a saxophone in this piece of music. I used to play alto sax but this also does not sound like other saxophone types such as the tenor sax (for instance) because it is clearly a trumpet..
Reminds me a little of the lonely trumpet in Jeanie Bryson's 'Young At Heart'
Reminds me of book of Eli towards the end 😀
Didn't Atticus make the OST for that movie?
@@fulldisclosureiamamonster2786 yes he did

Movie soundtrack music that never got hooked up with a movie, anyway thanks trent & Atticus for the freebie, good timing. Will we ever get out of this quarantine?
If I get murdered by a man wearing Airpods, I hope he is listening to this.
bruh
As long as people are having a good time there's no reason to be a poopy pants.
You don't know till you do
Wooooo 😍
I wonder what score he was working on when he was doing this. The names of the songs are a little too "name of a scene is a movie" - y too not be
Trent on the fucken Sax. LOVE!
It's mute trumpet.
everytime I listen to this a really melancholic and dark noir movie is playing in my head
