    Really cool train set

    I had to chuckle at the sight of this train passing 125MPH speed-limit signs as it circled the layout. :D
    I did a couple of similar videos of MTH O-scale NYC subways, but only have a bare-bones test-track loop.
    Even though I'm in the US, I'd jump at the chance to have these in 'O', even though they would have a *ridiculous* price tag--(especially if Bachmann did them--which they won't, but technically _could_ since they already developed O-scale low floor drivetrains for their Peter Witt streetcar (tram) and 44-ton diesel)

      125mph - now that's what you call Light Rapid Transit! When Bachmann and the London Transport Museum announced the original version of this model it caught everybody by surprise and Skipsey wasn't designed for a London Underground train. However, I love the Underground and had to have one! In the meantime I am currently looking long term towards my next project which will be much larger and on many levels, giving me the opportunity to produce a dedicated London Underground section. We're talking 5 years from now and also it will be physically located 200 miles from here at my parents house so it will be an epic project logistically!

      It certainly could! I would like to add people eventually but I plan to paint the seating first!

    I am thinking of setting up an electric prototype railway but I would not be happy with track without conductor rails. Any advice, anyone, please?

    • @SkipseyTrains
      @SkipseyTrains  4 года назад

      The version of Skipsey currently inder construction will have a third rail attached to the track. There will be quite a lot of track and unfortunately the conductor rail needs to be added seperately using peco rail and plastic insulator pots. ModelRail magazine did show how to fit these items but also offered a quicker alternative by sticking the 3rd rail to the sleepers without the insulator pots. Frankly, i'm not looking forward to this element of the layout!

    Hi, question if I could please. Who makes the station platform, and is it possible to have without the tapering end of the platform?

    • @SkipseyTrains
      @SkipseyTrains  7 лет назад

      Hi Mark. The station platform are standard Hornby pieces. I have filled in the holes where the platform canopies sit and cut off the overhanging edges of the platform. I then sprayed the whole thing grey. After this I added Peco concrete platform edging and redecorated in a buff colour (I actually used executive light grey). I then masked up the platform toapply the yellow lining. It is possible to get a straight, non-tapered end but not at a sloping angle from Hornby. These are generally available as part of a kit and not available seperately so you're your best bet for these are from Ebay.

    Excellent video and excellent layout superbly recorded! That was enough for me to subscribe! I desperately want this set and went on the London Transport Museum website and they're out of stock sadly. I'm hoping that is temporary as I'm a major fan of passenger rail and subways (I'm from NYC) and my layout will be based on the NYC subway system. Also since brexit, the price really came down so the exchange rate is favourable to the US dollar. Thanks for your superb video! Cheers from NYC!

      What a coincidence that I watched this video again and went through the comments as just yesterday (Thursday July 13, 2017) DHL delivered my Bachmann London Underground S Stock set!
      As an early birthday present, my son went on the London Transport Museum website and bought the four car set for me. I now have to get the decoders installed, lighting and buy four more cars to make an 8 car consist.
      THANK YOU so much for your kindness, I greatly appreciate it very much Sir. Last week the gentleman from the RUclips channel Calling All Stations, told me that the set had been reissued. I'm grateful to him as well. Thanks again, and please be well.

      Thank-you for your kind words. I have to confess I purchased one of these new releases too so that I can create a double track line on a new long-term project I am about to start on just like the sub-surface stations.

      Thank you! I've uploaded to my channel a short sort of introduction to the set video at home on my 8 ft. long test track (my home layout hasn't been built yet). As soon as I get the decoders installed, I'll run it at the H.O. club I'm a member of and upload another video. Cheers!

    Hi I've just got this train and was wondering what type of track you are using? Can you use Hornby track? Also where did you buy the lights for inside the carriages please?

    • @SkipseyTrains
      @SkipseyTrains  7 лет назад +1

      I am using a combination of Peco code 100 and Hornby track. The only reason for this mixture based on using what I already had. This model managed to operate on radius 1 curves. The lighting was purchased from the London Transport Museum. They sell a four car pack with door sounds and arcing flashes for £85. Additional car lighting strips cost £20. All packs include batteries. You only have to supply Blue-tac to fix the strips in position.

      Skipsey Railway that's great thank you for replying. I've just ordered the lighting this morning. Your train set up is really good

      Hi Ivan. Skipsey is modelled in OO scale. The S-stock is a limited edition model by Bachmann commissioned by the London Transport Museum
