Skipsey Trains
Великобритания
Добавлен 14 мар 2007
Skipsey Trains is the showcase for my model railway "Skipsey". Early videos show its previous incarnation in the garden shed. However, since late 2018, progress can be seen on the new Skipsey being built significantly larger in the loft. The layout is based on trains in the South, mainly South West Trains with Southern and GWR thrown in for good measure. There will be lots of other traction on show from other TOCs as well as some back-dated running to the BR Sectorisation period.
82. Midland Pullman
Within minutes of purchasing a pair of tickets for the Bath Christmas market train which we travelled on 1st December 2022, I had pre-ordered the full set from Hornby. The power cars arrived just after the trip with the coaches arriving in January 2023.
Not content with what I had received, I decided an upgrade to the interior of the coaches was needed. Taking the coaches apart I found that it had no floor. As I was going to add stewards to the coaches, I would need a floor for them to stand on. Passengers were painted and added to a fully decorated interior and food was painted, glued onto plates and glued to the tables. One of buffet cars was converted into a full kitchen whilst the oth...

Following the hype of the opening day of the Elizabeth Line on Tuesday 24th May 2022, I take a trip to see what all the fuss is about a couple of days later. Starting at Stratford station, I head to Liverpool Street on the first leg of the Elizabeth Line, known as TfL Rail only a couple of days earlier. Then I hop over to Abbey Wood and alight at all the stations along the route in turn until r...

Lovely South West Trains models. :)
Welcome back Skipsey 😉
Thanks Callum. There is more to come.
Such an iconic sound 😍😍
great see train thanks for the vid thank s lee
Thanks Lee. It's been a long time coming! I've got about 18 months of rusheas sat there waiting to be edited and i'm planning on making headway into editing again.
This amazing model looks like class 700
Hello I would love to know if you are selling a southern, Gatwick express train? My son has asd and has been obsessed with these two trains for a long time but we cannot seem to find them to buy x
I’m hoping to make one soon
My son watches your videos everyday ❤ he's asking how to get these trains 😂
Thank-you. I'm glad he enjoys them. I haven't edited a video for a while but have plenty of rushes filmed so I must get on with editing and posting another video. The class 707 is one of the Seimens products which all have a boxy body profile. The base model is a Bachmann class 350 with the cab cut off and the pantograph removed. Yes, the window/door configuration is a little different but I'm using modellers licence for a train that wasn't available at the time. A new pair of cabs was 3D printed by Shapeways (not a cheap job). everything was put together and repainted. I was building this as a 5-car train as per the prototype but had to loose one car to make it fit in a particular siding on my layout. Moving to the question of how to get one, the only way currently is through the purchase of a kit made by CMAC models 9these now make the body with the correct window/door configuration) but these will need to be motorised, glazed and painted - not an easy job. If you want something that looks remotely like it there is an alternative option. Whilst working on the project I agreed a design with Electra Rail Graphics for a self adhesive vinyl in this livery which I decided not to use at the last minute. These are still available as a fictional South West Trains livery - Red Class 707 on their website - link in bracket ( electrarail.co.uk/class-350--450-emu---fictitious-liveries---oo-5065-p.asp ). These can be stuck onto the Bachmann class 350 and generally second hand class 350s are available. Electra Graphics have recently been taken over and checking their new website it is still available. I have no affiliate link to the business but I have had good products from them in the past so am happy to recommend them. I hope this is of use. Cheers. Paul
@@SkipseyTrains thank you for such a detailed message. We read every word of it, highly appreciate your passion, and enthusiasm!
I love this!!
Thank-you.
Beautiful train 👍
Thank-you, though I must confess this is the only Electrostar in my fleet made by somebody else!
Very impressive paintwork!
Thank you! Cheers!
That's a great model love to get my hands on one of these 😊😊
It is. this was made by somebody else so I can't take credit for it. It has since been joined by one in the earlier South West Trains livery.
Very nice , but aren't they 5car units , ?
Yeah they are. When I started this project I had a fifth car available as well. Unfortunately, at the time of construction, the bay platform I had intended running them into could only fit 4-cars so the set was truncated to 4-cars. i may have to go back to a fifth car now that the layout has changed and it can take a 5-car train!

Do u make the models ur self and if I do can I buy thet 707 for 200
Hi. I have made some models and others are commissioned and made for me. the 707 is one I made because at the time I was travelling on them most weekdays. However, it took me ages to make so I'm not looking to repeat it (indeed I haven't carried out a project of this size for a few years now). The cabs were extremely expensive alone so 200 wouldn't get anywhere near the cost. To get a 707 now you would be better of with the CMAC resin print and getting a model railway pro to build a motorising it (I'm no professional i'm afraid). Cheers. Paul
Skipsey do you know what music is used?
Hi. The music is the theme tune to the TV series 'Trainspotting which used to be on the Discovery Home and Leisure channel. It was presented by Mark Found (series 1), Steve Power (series 2) and Mark Collins (series 1 and 2). If you want to check it out you can find episodes on RUclips by searching for Trainspotting TV (otherwise you just get the film)
Heyho, brilliant Video! I also bought an S stock recently with the lights/sound already fitted. do the Batteries Load during running/Does the Power supply change while the train is drawing power from the track? Or do I need to change the batteries every now and then? thanks in advance
Hi Galahad. Thanks for your kind words. These are stand alone units and are not connected to any other power source other than the battery so when it runs down you have to take the body off and change the battery. The body removal is fairly straight-forward and one of the selling points is that the light strips have a motion sensor so that the lights are only on when the train is in motion (and for a short period afterwards) to aid in pro-longing the life of the battery. Mind you if you keep moving/knocking the box it is stored in then you keep using up your battery power! A clever idea for a novice like me but nothing beats a pre-installed light lit by a feed from the track!
Song is rather be
Hi LEXURE. You're a life saver! You may notice I've had somebody else ask the same question but for the life of me I couldn't remember and had no idea how to go about finding out (because I'd used the instrumental version). But yes, it's Rather Be by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne. Thanks.
@@SkipseyTrains your welcome I love your videos iam a die hard train fan. New sub 👍
@@noob69420L Thanks. I have loads of rushes that I filmed over the Christmas break but I've just not had time to get them edited. Fingers crossed I'll get the time shortly and post some more vids.
What's the song name please
what the song you used called
The song is Rather Be by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne.
Interesting video, really impressed with my rake although I’d like to hear your thoughts on the noise levels of the wheels. I’m in the process of changing all mine over as the original coach wheels are ridiculously noisy.
To date I haven't changed the wheelsets. However, it is something I need to consider. Having spent a small fortune on two sound decoders they are being drowned out by the coaches!
@@SkipseyTrains it’s worth the effort, I’m pleased with my results.
MUSIC KILLED IT
3:46 how could I get a sign like that the old in south west trains colours?
The sign was made for me by a local (at the time) sign company - signpost express (Newport, Isle of Wight) - because they were carrying out some vinyl works for me.. The text is slightly different to that on real signs to avoid copyright infringement.
Your custom models are amazing!
Thank-you.
Nice video but which coach is the motor in?
Hi. I think it is in the rear carriage. The set is built onto the chassis of a Bachmann class 150 - one of the original batch with the large weight filling one of the coach interiors.
@@SkipseyTrains thank you
Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Thanks Mike. Stay safe.
Great running session 👍🏻
Cheers.
Love the video, so I by suggestion the music is saying all your trains are girls ATB Bernie
Hi, what about class 37 Harry Needle orange/grey livery? Also a network rail yellow livery class 37, Bachmann based.
Hi. I don't have an HNRC 37 but I do have the Bachmann 37 in Network Rail yellow (Model Rail limited edition). I'll have to give it a run out and film it in my next running session. I'm just making some reliability modifications to the track and hopefully the layout should be up and running this weekend.
What materials did u use
Hi. The base model was the Bachmann class 170. The roof was removed and the airconditioning pod was cut out and re-used (this was an afterthought so sits a bit proud of the roof whereas it should be flush). The roof is taken from the original tooling of the Hornby Mk4 coaches. The roof section includes the glazing so this section needs to be cut off. There is a gap between the roof and the bodysides so it needs to be filled. The cab is an amended Electrostar cab with the windows increased in size and the front cowling removed. The interior is from the class 170 with the seats removed and realigned. The seats come in pairs and some of them are cut in half to portray the single seats adjacent to the doors. I hope this helps.
Ok thanks
Class 707 has 2 windows between the doors not 4
That's correct @Smokey (I spent a couple of years travelling on them) but making that amendment is a little bit beyond me. I did consider linking the windows in pairs with a black band but thought better of it. After all, if memory serves me correct the centre cars are 2x large windows, pair of doors, 2x large windows, pair of doors, 2x large windows, so the doors would probably be located slightly more central too.
Alr thanks
377 had 3 coaches?
The class377/3s did. They were originally members of class 375 but were converted to class 377 shortly after construction. There were 28 sets in total.
Both look great. He does some superb resprays
They are great. I've had a few good models from Rainbow Railways. Always an excellent finish.
Lovely models you have here. :)
Thanks Reuben
I have just sub your channel again
Cheers Bernie. Most appreciated.
Nice layout great share some fantastic shots there👍🏻🚂🔔
Thanks Mike.
1:29 I have that but I wish I had a 458 kinds **** at scratch building
Where did you get that big station sign
Hi. The sign was made by a company round the corner from where I used to work - Signpost Express, Newport, Isle of Wight
Did i see a 1938 stock
Yes, o the intro. The EFE Rail model fitted with DCC sound
@@SkipseyTrains can I offer 150 for 2 coach set like on the island of wight (483)
Wow nice set
Thank you 🤗
377?
Yes. And a 387 too.
very well made, accurate and real. well done! u should couple your southern and GX trains together if they can
Thanks. Unfortunately I can't take credit for this model. I have made all bar one of my Electrostars and this is the one I bought ready made!
I would like to buy this off you
Sorry, it's not for sale (took me over a year to finally finish it so I couldn't make a living out of it!)
Hi Skipsy, How did you Manage to get the bachman Chassis Into The kit Unit? i was looking to put a bachmann class 150 motor into my Anglia build and its not Fitting into it ?
Hi. It's tricky. Very tricky! To make it fit the front of the chassis had to be cut short so there is no lighting capability on this model. The other major issue is the width. The class 150 bodyshell is quite thin and sits snuggly around the metal chassis. As such, the windows on the kit needed to fit flush on both the inside as well as the outside. Making this adjustment to the glazing hasn't given a brilliant finish but it looks ok on a moving train! When it comes to DCC fitting, this is achievable by grinding down the inside of the roof to gain extra room for the decoder. Not the most pleasant of tasks, but worth it to make it run! Good luck.
@@SkipseyTrains as a novice to model train builder. I think ill give this a miss. Its to dam expenisvie... but thank you very much indeed for the information.
Quick question but by any chance do u know where u got the class 171 from? In a video ages ago the southern one
Hi/ These were a retrospective purchase so I got them from Rails of Sheffield via their Ebay store.
It's nice to see my cabs being used to such good effect - I made them as part of a scratch build project, so never got to see how they fitted with the Bachmann Desiros. It looks like it's quite a good fit, which is nice! Good work.
Thanks. And more to the point, thanks for creating this project. It never crossed my mind that I would want a model of this train until I started working in the area where these operated and started travelling on a daily basis between the my digs and place of work. Despite the window configuration being incorrect on the bodyside, I could see the similarity in the box-type body profile and thought it could work. I commissioned Electra Rail to produce bodyside vinyl's for the bodyside but during preparation I quite liked the choice of base red I used and finished the model off with commissioned (logos, numbers) and home made (yellow door surround) transfers.
nice layout
Thank-you. Long since gone in the form shown in this film. It is now much larger as can be seen in my 'Watching Trains Go By' films.
Wow that's brilliant. Fantastic to see 377111 during pandemic
Cheers Francis. I hope you are well.
