    It's nice to see my cabs being used to such good effect - I made them as part of a scratch build project, so never got to see how they fitted with the Bachmann Desiros. It looks like it's quite a good fit, which is nice! Good work.

      Thanks. And more to the point, thanks for creating this project. It never crossed my mind that I would want a model of this train until I started working in the area where these operated and started travelling on a daily basis between the my digs and place of work. Despite the window configuration being incorrect on the bodyside, I could see the similarity in the box-type body profile and thought it could work. I commissioned Electra Rail to produce bodyside vinyl's for the bodyside but during preparation I quite liked the choice of base red I used and finished the model off with commissioned (logos, numbers) and home made (yellow door surround) transfers.

      Thanks. The original plan was to use pre-printed vinyl's to finish off the livery but the model started to look so well after its first coat of red paint that I decided to go all the way without the vinyl's. I still have these vinyl's and a different train may appear with them one day!

    Nice video, but the 707 has a set of 5 carriages and has no toilet. But it looks like a nice model

    • @SkipseyTrains
      @SkipseyTrains  3 года назад +1

      Thanks. When I started this project the set did have five carriages. However, the track on the layout wasn't completed and ultimately a siding in one of the bay platforms of a station I was building counldn't take a five car train. As such both my class 458/5 and 707 were trunkated to 4-car. The 458/5 was virtually complete but the 707 was at an early enough stage for the fifth car to be donated to anothe rproject. As for the toilet, the initial plan was for the livery to be applied using vinyls commissioned through Electra Rail. These would have had a blanked out window in the area where the toilet is. However, during preparation for the vinyls I found I was perfectly happy with the base colour I had sprayed the model with and just carried on painting. Maybe one day I will create the transfers to rectify this element (there will be two areas where this will be required). One of the reasons for producing this model was because I spent the last two years working away from home on a project in Brentford which involved a lot of rail travel and on a daily basis I was on 707s and 458/5s. As such I had to make one!

    My son watches your videos everyday ❤ he's asking how to get these trains 😂

    • @SkipseyTrains
      @SkipseyTrains  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank-you. I'm glad he enjoys them. I haven't edited a video for a while but have plenty of rushes filmed so I must get on with editing and posting another video. The class 707 is one of the Seimens products which all have a boxy body profile. The base model is a Bachmann class 350 with the cab cut off and the pantograph removed. Yes, the window/door configuration is a little different but I'm using modellers licence for a train that wasn't available at the time. A new pair of cabs was 3D printed by Shapeways (not a cheap job). everything was put together and repainted. I was building this as a 5-car train as per the prototype but had to loose one car to make it fit in a particular siding on my layout. Moving to the question of how to get one, the only way currently is through the purchase of a kit made by CMAC models 9these now make the body with the correct window/door configuration) but these will need to be motorised, glazed and painted - not an easy job. If you want something that looks remotely like it there is an alternative option. Whilst working on the project I agreed a design with Electra Rail Graphics for a self adhesive vinyl in this livery which I decided not to use at the last minute. These are still available as a fictional South West Trains livery - Red Class 707 on their website - link in bracket ( electrarail.co.uk/class-350--450-emu---fictitious-liveries---oo-5065-p.asp ). These can be stuck onto the Bachmann class 350 and generally second hand class 350s are available. Electra Graphics have recently been taken over and checking their new website it is still available. I have no affiliate link to the business but I have had good products from them in the past so am happy to recommend them. I hope this is of use. Cheers. Paul

      The layout is basically 4 circuits of varyinf sizes, one large terminus station (currently only track at present), one four platform station (under construction) and a 2 platform station (again strack only at present). there is also a small diesel depot, three road EMU sidings and shed, and container terminal. The largest circuit goes to a 2 1/2 circumference helix leading to a fiddle yard the size of the scenic level above. In future will see an additional level with town scene and steam railway. Since this footage was filmed the firstsignals werehard-wired in place and connected to an automated station announcement system and ballasting in this area has started. More work to do in this area in January!

      This will be staying in SWT colours. Aside from it being a tricky livery to paint (and so I would not wish to paint over it), it was also the livery these trains carried when I travelled on them, albeit with the South Western Railway branding

    • @AnthonyFurnival
      @AnthonyFurnival 3 года назад

      @@SkipseyTrains Good choice! I think it’ll also represent a little piece of history by having it in its original livery. Are you planning to add a carriage? To make it 5 car like the real thing? Or is that a logistical nightmare? (I don’t know much about model making / but I admire the skill and workmanship which goes into the intricate details of the builds - you’ve done a great job)

    • @SkipseyTrains
      @SkipseyTrains  3 года назад

      @@AnthonyFurnival I had originally planned to make a 5-car version. Indeed i some of the early shots prior to full repainting this set did have a fifth car and I had already decorated the interior. However, the lines I wanted to run the set on had a couple of stations where I could not get platforms long enough for 5-car trains. I can cope with this on a through platform but one was a bay platform so it did not work. However, plans are in place for changes to the layout which may see the possibility of being able to extend this bay platform (at the expense of the triangle of track). So in short, never say never!

    • @SkipseyTrains

      That's correct @Smokey (I spent a couple of years travelling on them) but making that amendment is a little bit beyond me. I did consider linking the windows in pairs with a black band but thought better of it. After all, if memory serves me correct the centre cars are 2x large windows, pair of doors, 2x large windows, pair of doors, 2x large windows, so the doors would probably be located slightly more central too.

      @@SRV777 I marked up the line whereI wanted to remove the cab with masking tape and carefully cut along the line with a razor saw. The lighting is enclosed within a black casing which has to be removed. The board to which the lighting is attached also needs trimming slightly. The back of the new cab also needs trimming a little. The paintwork was mainly by hand using SWT blue, orange and red and warning panel yellow from Phoenix Precision. This was mainly to the cab area and doors with the main bodywork sprayed halfords enamel red. Ther roof is phoenix Precision roof grey. The transfers were from Precision Labels. However, the numbering to the front cab was not very robust so these came from Railtec. When I started this project I did have a fifth carriage but the whole set didn't fit in certain bay platforms so this is the reason it is only four-car.

Unfortunately, at the time of construction, the bay platform I had intended running them into could only fit 4-cars so the set was truncated to 4-cars. i may have to go back to a fifth car now that the layout has changed and it can take a 5-car train!

      Hi. I have made some models and others are commissioned and made for me. the 707 is one I made because at the time I was travelling on them most weekdays. However, it took me ages to make so I'm not looking to repeat it (indeed I haven't carried out a project of this size for a few years now). The cabs were extremely expensive alone so 200 wouldn't get anywhere near the cost. To get a 707 now you would be better of with the CMAC resin print and getting a model railway pro to build a motorising it (I'm no professional i'm afraid). Cheers. Paul

      @SkipseyTrains  3 года назад

      Hi. Yes I know. There is a bit of modellers licence at play here. The base model is a class 350 which has a similar body profile but slightly different window/door configuration. I was going to put a black blank window transfer ib this area at one point but haven't got round to it (there is a window which has an electronic cabinet partly over it which is blacked out). Also, this set did have a fifth carriage when the project started (just like my 458/5)but I found that a bay platform on my layout that I wanted it to serve (the one at the beginning of the video) couldn't take the full 5-car train length so it was truncated. Whilst carrying out this project I did have the benefit of travelling on these trains whilst going to and from work so whilst I had a source of first hand information it was also the reason I wanted to model this train too.
