    "Abelas means 'sorrow'. I said... I hope he finds a new name".

    The sheer sadness and regret in 1:12 to 1:30 is heartbreaking. The Elves lost their entire culture, and you really feel the weight of their sorrow in this piece of soundtrack.

    • @ookami-chan3328
      @ookami-chan3328 8 лет назад +25

      For me, the sadness is not of elves loosing their culture. Their "culture" after all was one of enslavement and brutal overlords much like ancient Tevinter and not much current unlike Orlais (at least for the elves).
      Spoilers ahead
      I've played my first and main inqusition character as a female dalish mage. One that always thought about honoring their old gods and returning to the old ways (an elfy elf as Sera would say) only to find her image of the good old times crumbling as she went. And she also romanced Solas btw... :D
      For me the sadness is of Solas, Abelas, Fellassan, Arial (my inquisitor) as they see the peple they care about get enslaved whether in the past or in the present.
      Edit: The way I phrase it can hardly express all the feelings of this song though. It's much more than that, it's hard to put into words...

      Indeed. From what Solas told us, their civilization was one of countless marvels, not just enslavement and war.

      That part is actually also the main theme in 'Eluvian Crossroads' and it plays during the scene Morrigan tells you about the Eluvians for the first time.

      @@ookami-chan3328 true they were enslaved but if you go by what was being said that was just kind of the final nail in the coffin.
      They were warring against themselves & that started their decline in power. Their "empire" fractured & shattered like glass.
      Until now they're not even a shadow of their former selves.
      What little they have left in history & power is distorted as well

    Ohh boy... The first part of this song was extremely emotional for me for some odd reason in the Emerald Graves. Knowing that many were slaughtered there, and then coming by on horse back and suddenly it creeping in when the adventure was silent. Suddenly hearing this song hauntingly ringing through your ears and just.. Simply disappearing was heart breaking. THIS SONG!!
    Then it creeps back with Morrigans scene with the eluvian, and also Mythals temple, it was like a good warning that shit was going to get real. The whole damn 6 minutes are just heart wrenching.

    The game story wasn't too bad. But they truly went all out on the music for this game.
    Especially for this one.
    You truly feel the tragedy of both a lost culture & flemeth's own tragic past.
    You truly do feel the weight of sorrow and regret.
    But it's such a beautiful piece of music.

    One of my favorite tracks. My favorite moment in the game so far (200 hours in and I'm still experiencing so much new stuff) is when I fought a dragon in the exalted plains and this track played. That fight was full of action, the environment there was awesome, and the fact this track played in stead of some generic 'epic' combat theme was so awesome.
    It was the epitome of a fight in a fantasy world, fighting a huge dragon with this theme. The music really made it one of the best battles ever.

    • @funyarinpa336
      @funyarinpa336 9 лет назад +7

      Gotta agree with you there. After figuring out the puzzle for a while I was kind of expecting to just find some random rifts and be done with the area. However when the Dragon landed right in front of me this music turned a moment of shock into the most beautiful moment in the game.
      Somehow, more than any loud and epic score this slow, beatiful melody made me feel like this would be my characters hardest fight yet. But at the same time it kept me going eventhough I had almost no potions when the fight started.
      Now it has become kind of a ritual for me. Every playthrough I get to level 15 and then go meet my favourite dragon xD

    Never have I been filled with intense emotions such as beauty, mystery, intrigue, magic, and fantasy more than with this soundtrack. Whenever I think about going on an adventure exploring a vast, deep, and beautiful fantasy world where I know wonderful interesting secrets are just beyond the horizon I think of this song. I just want to go running in a open green field with the sun bright and shining in the sky or explore an abandoned castle in broad daylight when I hear this music. It perfectly sets the atmosphere for this grand adventure of discovery and wonder. It embodies fantasy to me.

    Also wonderful music for the situation of the very last visit to an elven ruin you undertake in the game.
    I was sooo relieved for not listening to Morrigan when Mythal finally revealed herself. No one deserves that to happen to them. Especially not a mother with a non-Old God child.

      Their narrative has improved slightly in the last decade, the game play however has devolved. And comparing a crap-factory like Bethesda with Bioware? Really?

    • @fyorbane
      @fyorbane 7 лет назад

      Completely agree. Inquisition had far too much farming and okay-ish combat, but it has deffinately been dumbed down from previous games. Origins is a much superior game in most respects and Baldurs Gate 2, well, nothing comes close to that game in terms of story and characters. What I found particularly annoying was the restriction to having only 8 spells or combat moves you can have at any one time-why? just ridiculous. Cut scenes and interaction between your main character and the 3 others you took in the various enviroments was virtually none existent,detracting you from being really involved in the story line greatly. Such a shame really. Witcher 3 in comparision was vastly superior and I hope Bioware have taken note of this so we can enjoy a much better game in Dragon Age 4. A few descent cut scenes and great music do not make a great game.

    Tevinter is a very very very diminished version el the elves from Solas time, I mean they had many virtues and marvels like Tevinter, but their pride and arrogance led them to a world wide war with themselves, being slaves to fake gods and such, magisters are only a glimpse of a VERY diminutive version of what a Elvhen God could be.

    • @Tadashi2
      @Tadashi2 Год назад +1

      Yeah, Tevinter based their whole society on what little was left of Elvhenan after Solas raised the Veil. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the fourth game revealed that Minrathous is actually just Arlathan given a Tevinter name, with the truth covered up all this time.
