Looking good so far! I’m about halfway through building my first violin. You mention getting varnish from International Violin. I bought the wood for my first build from them. Do you know the name of the ground coat product you’re using here?
The ground coat is just clear oil varnish, which I purchased from international violin. I didn't show it in the video, but I first applied a coat of albumin which is made from egg whites. I let that dry and then applied the clear varnish. I also use the albumin on the inside of the instrument. Sofia Vettori a very good violin maker that lives in Indiana, applies albumin on all her instruments, and it's one of her secrets for making great sounding violins. I think it works, but some say it is a waste of time .
@ Ah, thanks! I also subscribe to Sofia’s channel! I’ll have to give the albumin a shot, because why not? A friend I’ve made who recently graduated from the Chicago school also sings its praises.
@BrianTimmonsTX Brian, I am a self taught violin maker just like you. I know you belong to the Facebook group that Graham Vincent runs, which is a great place to get advice. Sofia's is excellent also. I was lucky enough when I started to have a master class violin maker who reached out to me and spent many hours on the phone and texting me, trying to help me up grade my violins. Your first violin looks 100 times better than my first, and I think you will be making very sellable violins very soon. If you ever have a question about how to do something, please reach out. My way may not be the way everyone else does it, but it will be the way that works for me. I am still learning, and you may have a way of doing something that I need to learn about. Also you need to check out Metropolitan Music, they have great tonewood and tools.
Можно для грунта использовать нежирный йогурт. Это самый лучший грунт.Можно его подкра итьаквалельными красками,лучше с земляными пигментами. Очень хорошо обрабатывается наждачной бумагой.@@BrianTimmonsTX
@K7classicrockfan it's not polyurethane, I purchase my varnish from international violin company and I don't know what kind of oil they use. I have been using it for a few years and have been very happy with the results.
Walnut looks gorgeous.
Thats so cool
Thank you ❤🎉

When you say oil varnish, do you mean polyurethane or is boiled linseed oil? Danish oil? Teck oil?
