I’ve owned V1 and V2 and quite frankly they have always been amazing. The over the air V2 updates are crazy good ! Super easy .. the fit and finish is perfect. Form factor is great too .. face it Mike Valentine has perfected this device and made it non-obsolete !
Rural towns along i10 between Tucson and Phoenix have sheriffs that still run K and X band radar guns. Random K or X band alert as you approach a tiny town and then see a silver or black Ram sitting on the side of the road.
Thank you for all your help with spreading knowledge on radar detectors. Within 3 weeks of finding your channel I finally understand the basics of radar detectors! :) Outside of this update topic I saw one of your videos where you have mentioned using physical buttons to report to the app (instead of voice or pressing on the phone screen). Can you create a video on what are you using and how to program/connect these physical buttons?
Great to get this news! I'm looking forward to checking out the new firmware. You should know that this video has great sounding audio but there is a faint high pitch noise coming through, I don't know if you can hear it but, I thought I heard it on my TV speaker, but I definitely hear it on the headphones. It's not present in your 700i review. Thought you should know.
I just grabbed a set of headphones and I can hear what you mean. I didn't notice it through my computer speakers. I found a way to take care of the high pitched noise in a video I'm working on now and for future videos, I'll change up my mic setup again to hopefully prevent it from happening in the first place and helping me avoid having to fix it in post. Thanks again for letting me know! It should be better moving forward.
I'm getting ready to send my old V1gen1 in for the upgrade V2. I just picked up the Uniden R4 after seeing your video. I'm running it in my Infiniti Q50RS 400 and I'll put the V1G2 in my 04 SVT Cobra
Omg!!!!! Drove mine 600 miles today on All bogeys mode. It’s exhausting! It false-alerts to every single Honda, Toyota, and 18 wheeler. Exhausting. It’s an R8 on roids as far as false alerts go
That's a great question. Right now the consensus seems to be that it's a location dependent thing, but I wonder what would happen if some of us tried swapping detectors and seeing if the results changed... :)
I have been running the R4 and V1 Gen 1 at the same time for a couple of years (absolutely no interference when running the 2 at the same time) and still would not change it for any one single radar presently on the market. I have KA and laser turned on on the V1 for arrows. I think the R8 is a great detector but would not trade it for my set up since the R8 can't match the wonderful laser detection that the V1 provides... Hey what's up with Thea :) LOL
I had that same set up until I got the R4. It worked great as well. I have been running the v1 with X & K off, I think I am going to turn K back on for the arrows.
So when I make the change in the V1 connection app to prioritize Ka is that permanently turned on in the V1? In other words do I have to be connected to the V1 connection app all the time?
Driving with the V1G2 after the update is awesome. I just noticed that it changes when Driving down the interstate, L turns into a small L on its own. Believe me I drive very fast
Its still early but if the new Laser upgrade causes increased K falses, thats not something anybody wants. As well, some challenges when muted and after receiving a new laser alert, it stays muted.
Okay so I'm looking right now at this moment December 21st 2023 to buy a new radar detector. Currently I have a Escort Max 360 (not the c) and honestly it's been really solid over the years. I update my database like maybe once a year (prbly been like 2 years or so for me now) and other than the arrows being slow i really can't complain. I don't get falses from BSM in cars, my gps lockout works great, i know Valentine is against i but I don't have issues. So anyway I'm lookin to get a new radar since I've had my current escort for like 7 years or so and at this point it's flown off my dashboard a few times and now the bottom rows of LEDs don't work which makes it harder to read during the daytime, still can read the screen at night and I run the option where I can see the Band/Frequency the radar is broadcasting on so I like to see the screen. Now I really want to get the Valentine V1 Gen2 especially since my main phone is Android and I can use JBV1 for GPS lockouts but all these issue with false positives blow my mind, like wtf are you doing fix ur FW. I just bought my mom a R4 for Christmas as she recently got a job further away and she specifically brought up a radar detector and I'm like shit i use a good radar all the time let me do some research and get her something solid. Part of my gut is telling me to get the R8 but I am tech savvy and willing to put in the setup time of the V1. So tell me, should I get the V1 gen2 or the R8, I have the money set aside to get either one. Also maybe the escort 360 redline? My current escort doesn't give me false positives. Edit: I really hope they get the BSM fired out, I'm picking one up so we'll see how it goes. Most ppl I see with escort say they have issues with Honda/Toyota tho I haven't had issues in a few years now with any manufacturer.
@@brentsilva6406 ya I had a few drinks that night I'll prbly clean it up. I ended up buying the v1, figured it can't hurt to try and like I said my escort has seen better days.
Lets be honest here. Unidens are just superior devices. The main selling point of the Valentine V1 Gen2 is how aethstetically pleasing they are. They are easily the best looking radar detectors, since one of the biggest issues with destetors is how ugly they can tend to be. But from a functionality and stability standpoint, Uniden just has a much better product.
@@VortexRadarI like the redline 360C, but the V1G2 picks up faster. The redline is great in Orlando Florida, but the V1G2 is awesome on the highway traveling. So the question really is that the redline 360C is better in town but V1G2 for highway?
R7, you don't have to worry about settings or up dates. I'm just saying. Valentine, my first radar, if they were reliable, I might go back. Don't see that happening.
Because the V1, both G1 and G2 many times are ticket preventers on laser. Over several decades, save me and my buddies many times on laser. Just today, my DS1 (R4 laser guts), would not go off point blank range with what looked like a small handheld Compact Dragon Eye. Fortunately I know where they sit. In the other vehicle, have been saved many times with this trap. They pulled over other vehicles, which my G2 alerted to way before I was in range. Picked up the laser reflections no issue.
Best at what? To oversimplify without knowing specifically what’s important to you, the V1 Gen2 is usually more popular among enthusiasts while the Escort is more plug-and-play and thus popular with everyday drivers.
@@VortexRadarwhat is chattier v1gen2 or r8? I have had a v1 for 20 years but iam also a simple man i want the best radar detector without having to use an app ? Give me your pick between the two.
Funny that it cries wolf on Ka in the past because I think the current R8 cries wolf for K band. No matter how you set it up it chirps entirely too much. K block is really useless and nothing but a glorified squelch switch.
The R8 can be chatty on K band, yes. You can do some added muting of it which helps, but overall I find Ka falses to be more egregious than K band falses.
@@VortexRadar good point, either way it makes you lose trust in the detector’s ability to identify radar accurately. I have tried every conceivable way to reduce K band false alerts on my R8, but I find it most annoying that it will still false to just about all BSM if I’m close enough on the interstate and the auto lockout feature still needs a lot of work too. I call my R8 the chicKen little of K band. I ended up going back to my R7 (quieter) because because of the constant K band falsing of the R8. It’s frustrating that Valentine, Escort, and Uniden can’t produce a complete detector.
@NeauxLA_Man V1 Gen2 with JBV1 is pretty darn close to perfect. JBV1 pretty much obliterates static K false alarms thanks to auto learning / GPS based database.
I tried every possible way to get control of the constant K falsing of the Uni R8. It simply isn’t manageable with the current features/firmware version. I decided to try R8 Companion as a last resort before I got rid of the R8 and bought something else. It worked. If only Uniden incorporated the software of the R8 Companion app - then you would have a best in class detector. I know the moment I drive if I forgot to launch the app because my R8 constantly falses on k band without it. If you buy the R8 the R8 Companion app is a must. K block and GPS lockouts on the R8 are still a joke.
Personally, I will not purchase a V1G2, bad experience with Valentine customer service back in the days where they were in between G1 and G2. When V1G1 hit the market they were always #1, now nah, I'll keep my old V1G1 and wait for vaporware Theia LOL or something next generation
I have been using Valentine since 1997. Even visited the store in Blue Ash while going to The Ohio State. They are a tech company so customer service is not their forte. Also still rocking the V1G1 with JBV1.
Radar detectors that use or require smartphone apps are terrifying, to me. These apps are definitely collecting your location data, right? Would appreciate a deep dive on the various apps and ecosystem out there. If any of them are collecting personal data that could subsequently be obtained by law enforcement, that sort of defeats the whole purpose of the radar detector paradigm imo.
