    I read the Blantyre mining disaster in 1877 laid a foundation of feeling for the Labour Party. Over 200 men were killed and their widows and families were subsequently taken to court and evicted from the tied homes due to non payment of rent. This fueled national disgust.

    Phillip Snowden was my great uncle
