London.
Various shots show Mayfair hairstylist Henry da Costa creating new hairdos for teenage girls; he coils Evelyn Lees' long hair around the back of her head and fastens it with a brooch, then carefully tweaks her fringe into place - very gamine! The short hair of Barbara Prime has gold lacquer painted on in streaks; Jackie Syms has a green chiffon scarf pad pinned under her pony tail and a necklace placed on the top of her head.
Two identical twins show a before and after style; the first has a waved hairstyle; the second has the same, with a false chignon attached to the back.
Note: on file are notes on the footage shot. Henry's salon was at 109 New Bond Street.

Did he put nail polish on her hair?
Birth of skunk stripe hair right here
no I think it was some hair paint,I used to have one by avon
No it’s hair paint
That green pillow and chain look ridiculous.
That horrid man made a mockery of that poor gel.....
…as hell 😅
Da Costa just ran outta ideas and is making things up as he goes.
I bet Barbara had all kinds of fun soaking her hair in acetone to remove the nail polish. There's no way that would wash out with shampoo.
😂😂😂😂😂
It's not nail polish. It's a type of temporary hair dye. It washes out very easily.
@@Bluebelle9289 That's good to know. I was sitting here thinking she'd probably fried her hair with polish remover.
@@Bluebelle9289But the announcer called it lacquer.

They did my gal Jackie dirty 😭😭
I want some of that "gold lacquer" to cover my roots between colorings !
I just use a matching powder eye-shadow with short bristled cosmetic brush ... also use it around the facial hair-line. I learned this tip from an interview with a top model in a magazine . 🙂
awwww thats so nostalgic
Didn’t think much of those.😑
How lovely 💕
Please tell me he didn’t put nail polish in that girl’s hair.
It's not nail polish.🙄 It's a temporary hair dye.
Mr Teasie-Weasie used to style Diana Dors's hair way back when. He'd cut it with golden scissors...
02:10 Pretty
0:33 oh my god he gave her anime bangs🤯
That hairdresser is far back in the closet. Had to be back then.
@@Helgrimr very stupid to assume I’m homophobic which literally means fear of gays. Who the hell is afraid of a gay?
I wish they’d show the black girls and how they got ready back then
Nobody wanted to see black women in the television back then.
It would be interesting
I’ve seen a couple of Pathe videos regarding African hair.
IKR? I don't know how many of those guides actually exist. I know Madame C. J. Walker created some guides in her era, but I don't know how long her company did that. (It was purchased sometime in the '70s.)
All I know for sure is that a number of women in the 20th century wore protective styles, often braids, under wigs.
(From a 1a person who glows in the dark, but loves the beauty and history of natural hair, in all its difficulty and complexity.)
@@SewardWriter 🥹you have made my day. Thank you!
I was a teen in the 50's and I never saw any of those.
I love watching these kind of videos, vintage (I don't know what exact word to put) style of hair and makeup, I prefer the old ways than today's technique especially on makeups.
Makeup is a sin for both sexes/genders.
Please, repent before it is too late.
Gorgeous!!!!!! Some remind me of today’s hair styles! 😊
That's beautiful
Thank you.
Me who has a long curly/wavy hair: 🙂
Honestly, the curly/wavy texture of hair is probably even better for most vintage hair. There’s a lot of natural curls to 50’s style, from finger waves to poodle cuts and so on…
poor barbara
I kinda find it relaxing to watch. But his nails are absolutely dirty, which is not relaxing.
I think it's hair color, unfortunately it's stains the underside of your nails sometimes, especially when you're a hairdresser. I hate how it makes my nails look, so I try to keep them polished so you can't see it 😂
Good
1950s hair styles and fashion were boring as hell. 1960s were the way to, early 1970s too. It all went down the drain in the 1990s and is still sitting there.
Interesting that people of both genders often style their hair as they did when they were young.
The way these chicks are acting like robotic statues though...
Thank you.
Teens looking 40😂
Baby bangs 🤮
🤔👉👶🪰
0:20 piss off mate! No way is that gonna last 5 mins after she walks out the door. And that green cushion and chain! This guy was dreaming that he was artistic lol
Lovely, very feminine, really classy yet rather assertive too. It's a tragedy nobody gives a damn about the way they look anymore.
Beautiful simply, classic and ladylike - concepts completely foreign to modern, contemporary females.
I know what you're saying, but the use of 'females' makes you sound like a neckbeard incel
You just pick the wrong ones. Classy, ladylike women still exist, but they get overlooked in favor of the “instagram baddies”
we'll start being classic and ladylike when men start being worth it
