You Brits may or may not realize this but, people like David Mitchell are some of the best ambassadors of British culture, for anyone who speaks English, around the world.
I'm English and I totally agree, I've always thought I'm the working class David's Mitchell 😂😂😂, he's from south I'm from the north, far north east 😂😂,
@@shanefoy3720 Thanks to programs such as Would I Lie To You , I get your reference to North vs South in England . Again, without people like Mitchell or Mack I, as a none Brit English speaker ( I’m Persian ) would not be familiar with or have such an affinity for British culture. Good for you guys for producing such amazing wits ( along with Stephen Fry and multiple others) in your culture.
Love David Mitchell. His comedy is always intelligent without being aloof. Amazingly he’s married to a woman who has the same wonderful sense of humor. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
Plus the lovely Victoria Coren Mitchell is an expert Poker player, so knows how to read people, and thus, she and David are brilliantly-matched in their observational skills. 🤔❤🏴♥️🇬🇧♥️🤭🖖

Thoroughly enjoyable. Mitchell speaks so insightfully and so passionately-and such a range of material, too. To justify Bad Teacher is quite something, and yet, he’s right.
THANKYOU! This was an obscure film on sky that my brother and sister and I used to watch, I thought no one else had ever heard of it but I gagged in surprise when Mitchell suggests it.
In Canada we loved the Pythons, including the final clip. And full circle, the first we saw of Barry Cryer was in the pre-Python (At LastThe 1948 Show) Four Yorkshiremen.
Ah, memories of Crossroads. There was an old lady character called Amy Turtle,, who noticeably used to silently mouth the lines of the person speaking to her leading up to her lines. It was so bad it was funny.
It's interesting to compare David's interpretation of Clouseau's comic appeal with that of Commissioner Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) in the same film series. Unlike Clouseau, Dreyfus is fully aware of both the past and the likely future. He is "the one sane man" in the films, and in fact it is this that drives him into madness. I think Dreyfus is closer to Mitchell's own comic sensibility than is Clouseau.
How come we saw the clip from pink panther but not the other clips? Is it just the copyrights? I love listening to David regardless, but I would have liked to see more of the clips
It is hard to watch this with the screen clips not played? Saw the first one but then nothing for Groundhog. Love David Mitchell, but this does a disservice to him.
“ Although we can't show the film clips due to copyright restrictions, you'll still get to enjoy the conversation and, if you want a deeper dive, can source the extracts from his descriptions.”
30 Rock is undeniably brilliant and often quite insightful, when it isn't being weirdly, intensely classist or racist. For me the Leap Day episode has encapsulated the experience of being an undiagnosed neurodivergent adult, but I also see numerous other ways it could be read - which seems to me a core strength of the piece. The show is aging weirdly, for sure, in a culture that is changing quickly. Some jokes seem ahead of where we are now, some seem weirdly regressive for their date of issue. This has been laid at Fey's feet, with some justification, but given the intense pace, the massive gag count, and shifting point of view, one can assume that many voices are being blended here. Perhaps it simply needed a bit more reflection and compassion at times.
With all due respect, "regressive" is in the eye of the beholder and very few actually funny jokes pass through the Woke beholders' without being condemned.
It plays a lot of stereotypes, but I generally felt like there was a consciousness that they _were_ stereotypes and over the top caricatures. I don't remember it generally being played off as if this is what people are really like.
The definition of slapstick excludes him from this given that you actually have to have more than two functional brain cells to understand its subtlety. Whereas everyone, no matter how brainless, can enjoy slapstick. You appear to be a fan😏

I concur
I could listen to David Mitchell speak all day.
F off. Listen to David Starkey. Educate yourself
I frequently do. 😂
I got the audiobook of his history book, Unruly, and it's both the best and funniest history of the monarchy - I listen to it over and over!

Watching from Antwerp!😊
I totally get what Victoria sees in him, 100% 😊

Absolutely! ❤could never understand people's disbelief in their marriage. They are perfect for each other, long may they continue ❤❤
Don't miss the tribute to Barry Crier at the end.
Brilliant piece.

The fact that he rates Bowfinger so highly is a sign of true genius. It might be the funniest movie I've ever seen.
Yes, Bowfinger is outstanding!
THANKYOU! This was an obscure film on sky that my brother and sister and I used to watch, I thought no one else had ever heard of it but I gagged in surprise when Mitchell suggests it.
Bowfinger is quite alright, but I can think of at least one Coens brothers movie is that is a bit more funny.
In Canada we loved the Pythons, including the final clip. And full circle, the first we saw of Barry Cryer was in the pre-Python (At LastThe 1948 Show) Four Yorkshiremen.
Absolute legend!
Mitchell and I are like minds, eerily similar in many ways. Also he's a man-crush.
28:28 to 29:41 some wonderful insight and advice for life here
David's great & so are the clips. I'll have to look up Acorn Antiques.

A lovely evening, but the lighting was criminal.
If I remember rightly Bowfinger was panned when it was released
I love Mr. Patheto-hand. ❤
Barry Cryer had a long memory.

Wasted 17 minutes 33 seconds of my life. The “top comedy moments are edited out”, so I will edit myself out too
@@davidjefferson4817 - Some are, some are not. Blame those studios / RUclips's automatic flagging system.
Did not expect to see Bowfinger included.

Would be better if you could play the clips. Most do not get played. Copyright I suppose..
I certainly don't warm to Bill Murray. He's always been a really sleazy man.

They can’t show most of the clips on RUclips because of copyright reasons
“ Although we can't show the film clips due to copyright restrictions, you'll still get to enjoy the conversation and, if you want a deeper dive, can source the extracts from his descriptions.”
For some reason this made me want to see a conversation between David Mitchell and Peter Hitchens.
What? No... P. Hitchens seems a sadly disturbed man.

Yes, time passes. I look forward to your review of Charlie Chaplin's work.

didn't need the god crap at the start.
Well, he needed to acknowledge Barry Cryer’s death somehow; I’m sure he thought that was the gentlest and lightest way.
No David, everyone isn't just like you, neurotic. There's a whole range of experiences and natures that people have.
Cameron Diaz is utterly unlikeable. 🙄
