      Thanks mate… yeah Covid has done us no favors. I’ve been lucky enough to have only come down to Vic in the last year from QLD, so hasn’t effected me as much as some. The high country is an awesome spot !!

    Great video. Thanks for visiting the site of our family hut on the Gibbo (Doctor Searls' hut). It's a special place for us and now the resting place of multiple generations of family and friends. The place was compulsory acquired by Parks Victoria following the 2003 bush fires.

      All good John.
      It’s a shame it burnt down in the fires, and even more of a shame it wasn’t rebuilt afterwards.
      The Dr was from Bairnsdale from memory? And built the hut to save traveling back and forth.
      Great thing, I bet the locals appreciated having a doctor in such a remote place.

      @@aguyandhistroopy yes, he was my grandfather. Doctor in Bairnsdale but also travelled up through Benambra and surrounding areas to see locals, and used this as a base. We couldn't rebuild - lost that case. (It is pronounced Jibbo but spelt Gibbo)

      It’s definitely a shame mate, makes you wonder why they wouldn’t want to rebuilt it. Did they give you guys a reason ?

      I believe Doc Searl introduced my Grandfather to the area, then to mine and me. Its been over 30 years since ive been there now and but my memory was the hut was still standing then. Btw the camp spot looks like what we called the flats and i believe it had a hut on it to? If it is, the flats was home to one of the biggest nastiest drinking sessions ever. Gives me a headache just thinking about it.

      @@aguyandhistroopy compulsory acquisition to expand the NP. We were granted permission to have the signs there to commemorate the final resting place of family and friends.

    Hi everyone, Gibbo is actually pronounced - Jibbo locally.

    • @aguyandhistroopy
      @aguyandhistroopy  10 месяцев назад

      But spelt Gibbo?
      What do you class as locally?

      Ihave lived in Benambra since 1990 and was constantly corrected by the locals - Benambra, Omeo, Swifts creek and Ensay when ever i pronounced Gibbo phonetically with a G. Gibbo locally is pronounced with a J, as in Jibbo. I got used to it. Hope this helps. @@aguyandhistroopy

      Hi again, my brother came up with a good explanation regarding pronunciation containing a G .How do you pronounce the words like general, genocide and geography ? They all sound like that they should be spelt with the letter J.@@aguyandhistroopy

      @@EugeneVereshaka all good mate, next time I’m up that way doing a episode I’ll make sure I pronounce it with a J.
      I went school with a lot of locals back in Bairnsdale back time day. Sonia Buckley being one of them. 👍🏼
