When I'm training with sticks, I'll leave the face shield on. It attaches to the front of the head guard at six points.
This is a size large. I am six foot four. I went with an extra large to begin with and it wound up being too big. So I sent it back, got the large and it wound up fitting just right.
It goes on fairly quick, there are three adjustable straps in the back. I already have it set where I want for two of them, that way it's just an easy one strap on and off.
Without the face shield, we've got a lot better vision, but take a shot directly to the nose and it’s not gonna be a good day. That's where that added protection of the face shield comes in.
The ear coverage on the sides is really good.
There’s a nice chin guard, it's not a strap. It's actually a spot where your chin fits nice and snug.
So that's a quick rundown on the RDX headgear.

Do you think it would provide me adequate protection if I go protesting downtown?

Unless you’re getting rubber bullets or gas canisters shot at you, I’d say ya, it’s adequate. 😆

I can't afford hits to the eye so I'd want to use it for heavy sparring too for Muay Thai - when I get to that stage. I wouldn't compete though. What are your thoughts on that? Would it frustrate my opponent such that they wouldn't want to spar with me?

As long as you’re protected that’s what matters. I’m not sure how well it would handle heavy sparring though. I’ve only used it for light sparring.

I’m not sure if the padding is thick enough to take heavy hits.

Do you know what size your head is measuring around the forehead?
Mine is 22in / 56cm is that around the same as yours or should I go medium?

I got this a while ago for light sparring in the boxing gym. I got one with adequate face protection for my rather large and protruding nose. My problem is that somehow 1 timw during practice an uppercut made the plastic guard bounce off my nose and I kinda got a small bruise. Nothing serious thankfully, but did I just put it on too loose or is it an sizing issue?I know I could have made it fit a little tighter. It was a hot day too so it got kinda slippery.

Another (perhaps stupid) question, should i put it on so tight that it kinda pushes on my cheeks? Maybe that will reduce how much it moves around.

I have a love hate relationship with this helmet only because of the way I train. If I’m training multiple attackers and it starts to come loose, I have a tendency to just tear it off and keep going because I can’t stand the limited field of vision at that point. But for light sparring I’ve never had the shield come loose, maybe that’s an issue with the Velcro or how secure you had it. However I have to add that I’m not a boxer, so I can’t say how it performs for that type of training.
