Thanks for your comment mate. I think I felt more relaxed around the dog and I was chatting with her rather than the camera lol. Bow drill sounds like an epic idea...
Yes mate nice one. That water’s cold still without a suit I did not know mullet in the sea tasted different. I always let them pass. Next challenge a nice flatly 😁😁😁. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Have you tried wrapping fish in newspaper, soaking it in water then cooking it?? My favourite method for cooking fish on the fire, it steams and smokes it at the same time and when you peel back the newspaper it removes the skin. Great content as always. All the best. Dave Finn.
Sweet video Joe ! I'd definitely eat it. If you scrape the black lining out of the gut cavity it stops a lot of the earthy taste entering the meat while cooking. Also mullet smoke really nice too. Love your back yard estuaries are awesome. Cheers
Hello my friend. Very nice video. Pacience is what it needs. Keep on rocking. And one advice:this fish has to be cleaned the most ten minutes after the kill. The Black film of the stomach as well. Greek greetings from mayorca. Thanks for sharing. Excellent dog.. 😁
I'm from the west coast of Florida. We eat mullet in various ways. Smoked may be best. Fried is fine too. You may find it hard to believe but that gizzard is the best eating part in my opinion. Open and clean it just like you did, then fry it. You'll see. The white roe is good fried too but be sure you have a splatter shield for your pan. They pop dangerously when they first hit the oil. The yellow roe is OK with scrambled eggs.
Brilliant video Joe - just watched it with the kids. G said “I wish I could LIVE with Joe - he does cool stuff all the time!” 😂 Going to have to up my game!! Both of them really intrigued with the preparing and cooking - F says he ‘might’ try that.. Thanks for making this - real eye-opener for them - inspiration for me! Take care mate.
Many thanks for your comment Ali! But I have to inform young G, cool stuff ALL the time is a slight exaggeration!! I did a spot of birding the other day, cattle egret had moved on but good to hear lots of sedge warblers down the marsh. Lots of Blackcap ticking away also. Take care 👍

What a great video! Considering the time, effort and skill that went into it, I think this is your best one yet Joe, I really enjoyed it. Your content has really reached a new level mate, it’s just a joy to watch. I’m personally somewhat of a mullet evangelist, I think they’re a deeply underrated fish - skinned, de-bloodlined and marinated in something spicy (Nando’s BBQ spice mix & oil is a winner) then BBQ’d on skewers, is my favourite. It doesn’t lend itself to refined cooking like bass does but when it’s covered in hot stuff and put over the flames, it think it’s pretty darn awesome and super sustainable 👌🏼 Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing buddy, love it! 🔥
Thanks for your kind words mate, indeed making these videos isn't a simple task as you know! Completely agree with the mullet, and as with many fish people turn their noses up at - it's about how you prepare it. Sustainability is the priority here 👍

Bait the mullet in to tree area with bread or use a floating loop of hose pipe tethered to a rock to stop bread floating away on your own beach cachem all That’s an awesome sight of mullet so close 😁 and even closer on a spear. If you got an old sp gun use that and fire into water I saw a guy doin it in Torquay harbour 30 years ago 👹👍👍👍👍👍 Hand spear is more refined

Decent. Have you ever caught other species with a normal pole spear? After I saw you knife a flounder last year I made a pole spear and went after some by day (in shallows where we usually catch them by feel by dark) but they kept seeing me and darting off!
Hey Tom, I haven't speared anything else with the pole spear, I reckon I'll try it out again later to check it wasn't beginners luck! Keen to try for some flounder when the come back into the creeks 👍
I was using a lamp too as it was sort of dusk, I thought it wouldn't scare them as I watched you doing the same in the depths, so in hindsight my reasoning why they were a bit jumpy was they were more wary in the depth of water I was in, it being a creek at dead low water (1 or 2 ft) max.... Maybe they thought I was a heron or something! Good luck keep em coming.
I know you eat the fillets of fish you catch but do you boil/ pressure cook the head and body (carcass)? I do and it is rocket fuel..sooo healthy...I make the stock then add hymalayan salt or a stock cube to make the fish stock drink😊👍
@@JoePkSpearfishing 😊👍...Seabass or makeral is my fish stock drink of choice...I find pressure cooking really gets all the oils, fats and gelatin out of the fish carcass...did you know behind the eyes of certain fish (like bass) etc is a fat that is super healthy and only found in these fish!
