A mere four months after giving birth to her only daughter, Bobbi Kristina, "The Voice," Whitney Houston, performs a stirring and riveting love medley, in July 1993 during her massive "Bodyguard World Tour." This woman's voice goes against nature. It's just not supposed to be possible, but it was, it IS. Ms. Houston, that's how. From the start, you feel you're back in the time of the 40's-50's, her voice transcends time. She would've been a successful singer no matter the time.

She mastered her voice between 86_92 all those concerts between then allowed her to play and practice her voice to mastery that is why she was the only singer who didn't sound bad even when she was hoarse. She is the epitome of an anointed voice.

@@revolutionishere Agreed. Around 96 Preachers wife era was when her tone, power and agility really began to shift downward. The bodyguard tour on top of smoking and cocaine use definitely took a devasting permanent toll on those golden, anomalous, angel-assisted pipes.
@@TheMastersuperblaste yes, the cigarettes and drug use hurt her voice very much. I will say tho in 1997, when she wasn't sick, her voice was starting to shift back. Have you ever listened to her sing IWALY in 1997 tokyo? Prime vocals, even better than some of the bodyguard vocals.

I thought the AMA 1994 version was amazing but this one is unbelievable. Her voice was just simply flawless and amazing. No one to this day can match her talent. Even in her later years she was still good. I miss her to death.
She did this first, that AMA performance was from her set of this on the tour.

Whitney Fan Whitney also performed this in Milan in '93. It was really good but it wasn't as good as this version. I also prefer this performance over the AMA one. Her voice wasn't yet tired from the world tour.
Khemistry I have the milan. version on my mp3. overall this one was better, but in the milan version, the big epic run in the middle was far more powerful and operatic than the one here. the audience screams over this one too much on that part.

Yes this one is amazing!! You can tell the difference in her voice from the AMA one. The ama one shows how tired her voice was from tired. But it amazes me how still that performance is still one of her greatest performances of ALL time!

It's really unbelievable how much hate people can bring to such a beautiful video. The Mariah and Whitney comparisons are old. Whitney is a legend who influenced Mariah, and Mariah influenced many as well. If you have nothing nice to say about Mariah, don't say anything at all. But don't let it detract from the fact that Whitney is an immeasurable, irreplaceable, and unstoppable vocal legend in her own right.

That right there is why so many lambs get schooled because they don’t know the whole truth or they just choose to ignore it. Let’s be honest, there’s always going to be comparisons made in just about everything in life. For example, Coke vs Pepsi, McDonald’s vs Burger King, Nike vs Adidas, Ford vs Chevy, football vs baseball...the list is endless. What is important is to compare with facts and not just opinion/personal preference. For me Whitney embodies the whole entire package...beauty, grace, stage presence and that voice that spawned countless females and males to sing. There’s a reason she’s known as the gold standard. It’s ok that people have their own opinion between these two but what starts out as a good back and forth with reasons why one is greater than the other, soon starts to turn ugly because of the personal attacks. Just the emotion from 2:06-2:32 is bone-chilling and emotional. That phrasing is masterclass. Also, this particular date is one of the best live concerts she's ever done out of like 1 million pristine concerts. It's right when her tone became severely more husky, but her fluidity and her breath control was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Still.

She performed it one other time in Earl Court, London. "Run to You" is actually a very vocally demanding song. Artists also tend to sing their more popular songs. "Run to You" wasn't as commercially successful as "I Have Nothing" or "I Will Always Love You." However, I'd put more bets on the song being as difficult as it was-and combined with all of the other difficult songs Whitney had to sing during TBWT-it was too much for her.

Yes, this is Whitney's 'natural' look... she's wearing her natural hair in this concert. Loved her natural style. It was just a lot easier for her to wear wigs, according to her own words. She looked very close to this during her last world tour, as you stated.

Master Superblaster Thanks for commenting, but I hold a different view. Whitney could not have done this in 1986 and she could not do "I Am Changing" for another reason. Whitney did not have her dramatic mezzo-soprano voice needed for this medley, back in 1986. She was a coloratura soprano back then and she couldn't have pulled off "And I Am Telling You" or "I Have Nothing" with justice. On the flipside, Whitney's voice had suffered since the "I'm Your Baby Tonight World Tour," and I'm quite sure she could not have sang "I Am Changing." it would have literally been painful for her to do.

Whitney dropped a few songs from her first and second albums during the 1994 leg of her world tour, because they were too vocally demanding, songs like "You Give Good Love" and "Love Will Save the Day."
