It's incredible how this video contains everything I was feeling towards the end of the game. The last episode is just two hours of torture as you fight the same enemies, with 0 challenge because of SAS, all while revisiting every map you already spent 30 hours going to to grind for items to increase bond levels. Really I love this for the first 15 hours and now I unfortunately I'm left with a bitter taste at the end

Yeah, I feel the same. I'm 20h in and I have enough, of story, dialogue, characters, gifts and same enemies. It starts strong, it has awesome visuals and music but in the end I don't recommend this.

Hey! This was a really good critique of the game, and I agree with much of what you said. Thumbs up and a sub from me :)
    (spoilers ahead)
As someone who loved his experience with the game, I can say that your critique is well thought-out and highlights the flaws that prevent it from being "fantastic." I loved the battle system, but yes, things like the camera gave me problems... (thinking of the second Kasane platoon boss fight in particular). I, too, would have liked to play as the other characters, although I feel that Yuito and Kasane have enough variety in their own abilities that I never really got 'bored' fighting as the same character. But I 100% agree that the customization was not done enough- at least let us use different types of weapons or let us customize how they work.
I also feel like while the story was good enough, there were themes that did not get adequately explored at all such as the idea of being a 'dud' (ableism more generally) or how Yuito's family is implicit in horrific crimes against humanity and how both Yuito and Kasane's families both benefited from this system. For me, though, there were special parts to the story that made it stick such as Tsugumi's hunt for Yuito's favorite flower, Arashi trying to save her brother in one of the bond episodes, or even Kasane's last interaction with Naomi (I personally think her relationship with Naomi was very well-done and made her a better protagonist).
I will say that the world felt flat sometimes due to a lack of engagement with it. I wanted to go in the cafes. I wanted to play with the crane games that you would see across the map. I wanted to look at some of the art in-detail at the OSF museum. There was a lot the developers could have implemented here but didn't, and it bums me out because the world itself actually seems really interesting! There is a reason I played as both characters- I want to know more about the game and its lore! I just wish Scarlet Nexus didn't rely on the cutscenes so much for its world-building.
Finally, teleportation was super cool. It was so freaking cool. Definitely my favorite power-up along with hypervelocity.
I know this game is not for everyone, and I can absolutely see how some of the story arcs were either rushed or done in a way that felt, in your words, "Kingdom-Heartsy." I hope that if they ever make another game in this IP, Bandai Namco really takes the time to go through the feedback, both positive and critical, that players have given. I think it was a really fun game, and I personally am able to overlook many of its flaws, but I would have trouble recommending it to people who don't like anime-style hack-and-slash games.
    Thanks again for your review!

I'm willing to bet the reason why those Sve Point guys in yellow are everywhere in the game it's because they're low-key users of red strings and they Park themselves at the right spot just to get more sales from the player

This felt like such a typical Bandai Namco 7/10 yet again for me and was done about 18 hours in. Same with Code Vein and Tales of Arise, it misses that X factor. Great channel btw, deserves more subs, came here from your LP retrospective.

It's true, dude. They don't really make "bad games" but it can't help but to always feel like a clone of another kind of game with less personality than the imitation. That's a really harsh way to look at it, but it do be feelin' that way sometimes🤷🏻‍♂️.
And I appreciate it so much! Hope I can continue to entertain🙏.

Very helpful. I was looking into getting it, now I know not to drop 70$ and to wait for a sale of some kind. Unfortunate cause it looks so gorgeous, but that double story being almost exactly the same is crazy.

Oh man, this kind of stuff makes my day. I'm so glad this helped in some way, dude!
It's really really fun, but it just asks for a lot of your attention. And you're not into super long games (I'm personally not) then it might not click with you. Yuito's campaign is great fun, but it's not worth going through it twice with Kasane. You're not missing anything by waiting for a sale on this one👌.
      Thanks for watching btw❤️.

It was kinda a secret. It was mostly just the next video on my schedule🤷🏻‍♂️. I didn't want to spend so long on it, but I didn't have much of a choice. The next few will come moreso out of left field, lol.
But thanks for watching as always, bro💪.

Good critique and well-made video. I would say that I wish you talked about the story some more as I think the word "critique" implies to the viewer that spoilers are fair game - at least that is how other content creators seem to use it. Anyway, I am just finishing up my Kasane playthrough and found it makes it much better to turn the difficulty to Very Easy. Obviously makes the combat completely mind-numbing, but at least it gets you through to what you want to see much faster. My Yuito playthrough was something like 33 hours, and I'm guessing Kasane is going to wind up around 15. If they had done enemy scaling to my level and I had to really engage with the combat mechanics on playthrough #2, I would have quit a long time ago.
I also have to say I disagree with your belief that the two sides could have easily been combined into one playthrough. The whole reason I was interested in the second playthrough is that (based on the interactions between the two groups), you could tell A LOT of completely different story content was playing out. Since they don't do any kind of recap when the two groups get together, I was extremely curious about what had happened on the other side. I think a big reason why the conflict between the two sides works is that you are completely oblivious to what the other side knows. If you were just switching back and forth, I think you would have lost a lot of the mystery that made the story work for me. Anyway, keep up the good work, and I'll be sure to check out some of your other vids...

@@michaelheim1149 I appreciate it! Yeah, I have a bit of a different style when making videos these days. If I were to make another video on this game _(which I might do one day)_ I would definitely do a full story recap and summary. I respect playing the Kisane playthrough on easy. But for me, my favorite thing about the game was the combat. So giving me a new character is like presenting a new way to play the game again, which is exciting. But when the other character doesn't feel as well thought out as the original, it dampens the 2nd playthrough as a whole. And while getting through it as fast as possible is one way of dealing with it, I'd just prefer if the other play style was fun and engaging the whole way through.
And as far as the 2nd campaign goes. I don't think it'd be impossible to keep the suspense of Kisane's goals and motives while also switching back to her. Playing as a protagonist you don't agree with can be entertaining if done right. I just think it would make the repeat visits through the same exact set pieces sting less. 3D Sonic The Hedgehog games have burnt me on that, lol.
But I can't tell you how much I appreciate you watching the video, dude! You rock!

@@CommandPromptGaming Mostly with you on this. I didn't think Kasane and Yuito played THAT different, but there was a huge difference in the companions from a combat perspective (obviously this is until they join up). I found that I really relied on the Teleportation SAS to get me to the fast enemies or those that also teleported around, and Invisibility and Hypervelocity were just worse ways of dealing with those same problems. Fire and Lightening were basically interchangeable, but Sclerokinesis was the game changer for Yuito. The ability to just roll in and tank hits for a short period against tougher enemies was something that Kasane's companions didn't have an answer for.
I also totally agree that the combat was the best part, so it seems stupid to turn the difficulty down and trivialize it, but I found that fighting the same enemies (with slightly different skins) eventually got really tedious. I can say that the best thing about turning the difficulty down for the second playthrough was that battles just turned into explosions of color as you basically just activate 3-4 SAS abilities when the fight starts and then just teleport around the arena and wreck shop. Certainly all the strategy was out the window at that point, but damn does is still look pretty - which is what kept me engaged between the new story bits.
One last thing on the Kasane story - playing with Yuito first and obviously not having the Kasane background was really frustrating for me as nothing seemed to make any sense. Specifically, if I am remembering correctly, Kasane shows up as a boss fight at least three times in the first 5-6 chapters (I actually think it is four). All of this is with literally no explanation to the player, and frustrating because her fights were much more difficult than any of the other bosses due to her somewhat ranged attacks.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling. Really glad again that you made this vid, and I've enjoyed some of the other vids I've checked out on your channel. Will certainly watch more as I have time. Thanks!

I love this video. You spittin facts bro. Astral chain is much better (yeah I think it's comparable) it's a better game with better risk and reward gameplay.

incorrect astral chain is worse. I like this game despite the flaws but Astral Chain is very simple, and the level design is very very samey. The story is nonsense. The game even gives you devil trigger and it takes 45 minutes to fill and lasts for 4 seconds. The game is also piss easy.

    • @kerozine819

@@wonder6835 I made the comment when I was still liking the game but I've changed my mind. Honestly both games are mediocre but I got to say that I have a bit more fun with this game. I despised astral chain now but I'd be hyped if they were going to announce astral chain 2.

Average game. I’m currently on the Kasane play through and it feels too similar to Yuito’s overall aside from some small differences. I think I’ll be shelving it for a while and will beat it eventually. I can’t take the boring cutscene presentation anymore or the repetitive combat.
